Phoney bomb plot at Shell?

category national | crime and justice | opinion/analysis author Tuesday September 16, 2008 10:06author by FalseFlag Report this post to the editors

Dirty tricks, to accuse others of dirty tricks.

Reported on the radio this morning that a 'device' was found near Shell's Dublin HQ last night and was made safe by the bomb disposal team.

Shell say that it is worrying that the campaign has taken a sinister turn.
The Radio offered no comment from Shell to Sea, or indicated if they had even tried to contact them for a comment, and thus allowing the implication to go unchallenged that it was Shell to Sea who had put this 'device' near Shell's offices.

Very little was said, other than that a device was discovered 'near' the building. (the exact location is not given) and that the Army bomb disposal squad disarmed it, and reportedly said it was a 'viable device'

Even if we assume it was viable, and not some crude dummy, one has to ask.
Who benefits from this?
Shell to Sea have a reputation for non-violent campaigning, and have the high moral high ground.
So much so, that Shell are delighted that the media is hardly reporting the epic struggles in Rossport.
Now, Shell can smear the campaign by implying that instead of the tactics of Gandhi, Shell to Sea has suddenly moved from kayaks and lock on tubes, to bomb making factories (bombs being the obvious follow on from inflatable paddling boats!)
All of a sudden, the people who do sit downs, and occupied the roof of Shell HQ are to be cast as the type of people who would leave a crude bomb, likely to injure anyone on the foothpath (which, of course would include people protesting against Shell .

This smells very much like a dirty tricks campaign designed to discredit the campaign.

Was this device carefully planted in a place that rather than maximis the damage it would do to Shell;s office, minimized it's chances of being disturbed by anyone other than those who planted it, and those they tipped off to find it?

Will it take another enquiry to get to the bottom of this?
