AECI Disenchanted Members Force EGM Under rule 13

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | news report author Monday November 10, 2008 01:26author by John McCoy Report this post to the editors

A group of disenchanted AECI members have forced the non performing Trade Association to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting.

The meeting will be held in the RED COW HOTEL in DUBLIN on Wendsday the 19th of November at 19.30. The AECI state in a letter to their members.

“The Executive Council of AECI have received a “Requisition to call an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Association of Electrical Contractors of Ireland” from twenty ordinary members of the Association, under Rule 13 (C)”

The motions to be discussed at the meeting are

1 “Discuss the manner in which the Executive Council have dealt with this years pay talks”

2 “Discuss the current challenge to the Registered Employment Agreement and the role of the AECI in this challenge”

3 “Propose to hold a vote of no confidence in the existing Executive Council at this meeting depending on answers to the above questions”

It will be interesting to see how AECI Executive Council members justify the current line of thinking which involves getting reinvolved with EPACE.

EPACE is a private limited company which is controlled by the TEEU union and whose sole role is to aggressively force employers who are not part of the Registered Employment Agreement to comply with its terms. Epace is funded by payments from the Construction Workers Pension Scheme and paid out 58000 euro to the TEEU in 2007. This information and lots of other questionalable aspects as to the role of EPCAE is contained in their recently released 2007 accounts.

EPACE have in excess of 800000 euro in the bank and many feel that this money should be invested in Electricians Pension Funds and not used to increase the bank balance of the TEEU.

It is very encouraging to at last, see the Irelands 4500 unreperesented Electrical Contractors standing up and saying "Enough is Enough"

More progress has been made in the last 6 months than in the preiovus 20 years. It is very very important for all AECI members to attend the EGM and voice their opinions one way or the other.

I think it is clear to all that the day of the minority making all the decisions is rapidly coming to an end.

Well done to all who have had the courage to stand up and be counted.

I attach the Company Ofice returns for EPACE for 2007 for all to have a look at. They again make very interesting reading and confirm the figures quoted by John McCoy

I just came across the comments of Patrick and this posting re theEGM.

I was at the EGM , and having had time to consider what went on, my view for what it is worth is.

AECI admitted on numerous times - "We couldn't influence the wage negotitaion, - We had no choice but to accept the wage increase"

If this is how far they have come in Fifty years - its time to RETIRE, and let those who belive thay can make a difference a chance.

REAL LIVES, are being badly affected by all this, with at least two SUCIDES. I am fighting to keep food on the table.
