What’s happening in Bolivia?

category international | anti-capitalism | opinion/analysis author Friday November 28, 2008 14:30author by Alan MacSimoin - WSM - Workers Solidarity 106author email wsm_ireland at yahoo dot com Report this post to the editors

Big Business doesn’t like what’s happening in South America. The election of reforming governments in Peru and Ecuador might have been a bearable irritant but that Chavez guy in Venezuela has really got up their noses. In Bolivia sections of the local ruling class got so riled up that they tried to overthrow President Morales in September. The US ruling class, in collusion with local bosses, is trying to destabilise political and economic reforms. As they see it, too much is going to workers and peasants, and not enough into their own coffers.

It certainly isn’t socialism, the working class is not in control nor is an economy based on need rather than profit being created. But there has been some real redistribution of wealth to the poor.

In the past, when people tried to tackle the power of the elites they were met with military coups, torture and death squads. The White House and their fellow free marketeers have never had any problem throwing parliamentary democracy and human rights out the window whenever their profits were threatened. The fact that Morales and his ‘Movement Towards Socialism’ won 67.4% of the national vote in a referendum as recently as August 10th is no protection.

Limited land reform

The limited land reform programme gave a good example. Since Morales came to power, 100,000 hectares of land have been taken from large landowners and returned to poor peasants and co-operatives. The two million poorest peasants live on just five million hectares.

At the other end of the social scale, one hundred families own a colossal twenty-five million hectares. Those parasites were never going to accept the proposal to limit land ownership to between 1,000 and 10,000 hectares. From their base in the ‘Half Moon’ provinces, they set about trying to overthrow the government. It is just one of their targets, they also want to destroy trade unions and peasant movements, and undo the improvements of recent years.

On September th, a coup was attempted in Santa Cruz by large landowners, ranchers and drug traffickers. Government buildings were taken over and roadblocks set up to cut off the city. The local airport was seized, with access only possible through checkpoints controlled by right-wing militias. The extreme right UJC marched, in military uniform, through the poorest shantytowns, where most people support Morales. This followed the murder of 30 peasants in Pando, all of whom were Morales supporters.

The government sent in the army and the country was taken to the brink of civil war. The US ambassador was expelled for “actively backing” the right-wing forces. Not being supported by the rest of the ruling class or any significant section of the army, the coup plotters backed down, having been promised ‘negotiations’ with the government.

The lessons of Chile

Drawing on their own bitter experience of the Pinochet coup, the anarchists of the Chilean Libertarian Communist Organisation have cautioned “there is no possibility of dialogue with the putschists: it would simply enable the bourgeoisie and imperialism to align their forces to make the decisive blow, which would lead the Bolivian popular movement into butchery of untold proportions. That is why it is so urgent to take forceful measures against the paramilitary groups operating in the “Half Moon” and against any coup-inclined, middle- and high-ranking officers in Bolivian Armed Forces”.

The negotiations may result in a temporary stand off but this won’t last long. New battles are certain as long as the opposition of interests between the majority of the population and the elite remains unresolved. This could take the form of an attempted coup by dissident sections of the military, in conjunction with the right-wing-led provinces of the ‘half moon’ and a lockout by employers.

The overwhelming support for Morales reflects an optimism that big change is possible. Unfortunately the MAS are seeking to channel this into creating a ‘capitalism with a human face’ rather than a socialist revolution. The vice-President, Alvaro García Linera, has called it “Andean capitalism” and a “necessary stage”.

MAS has already begun to come into conflict with some of the unions, especially the miners. The call for a guaranteed state funded pension at (life expectancy in Bolivia is only 62) was rejected by the government as “unviable”. When some workers called strikes and protests to demand these reforms, they were attacked by the government as “agents of the right-wing”.

The sad lesson of Chile is that those who make only half a revolution dig their own graves. The ruling class will not passively surrender its power and wealth, never in all of human history has that happened. Nor will it be fooled into doing so if we move slowly.

The anarchist movement in Bolivia is saying that the power of the right has to be dismantled. That means dismantling capitalism and replacing it with a worker controlled economy geared towards satisfying human needs, where the people exercise direct control through their own democratic assemblies and councils.

Morales claims assassination bid

Bolivian President Evo Morales said today that security forces had thwarted a plan to assassinate him along with top officials, killing three foreigners in a half-hour shootout at a hotel.

Police chief Hugo Escobar said two Hungarians and one Bolivian were killed in the shootout in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz.

Latin America, for the first time in 500 years, is moving towards a degree of independence and a kind of integration, which is a prerequisite for independence

Bolivia is, in my opinion at least, probably the most democratic country in the world. Nobody says that, but if you look at what happened in the last couple of years, there were huge, popular, mass organizations of the most repressed population in the hemisphere, the indigenous population, which for the first time ever has entered the political arena significantly and were able to elect a president from their own ranks and one who doesn’t give instructions to his army, but who’s following policies that were largely produced by the population. So he’s their representative, in a sense in which democracy is supposed to work.

And they know the issues. It’s not like our elections. They know the issues. They’re serious issues: control over resources, economic justice, cultural rights, and so on. You can say they’re right or wrong, but at least it’s functioning.

The War On Democracy A film by John Pilger (09/10/2007 )
http://video.google.es/videoplay?docid=-4221598130733050551

New film from award-winning documentary maker John Pilger which suggests that, far from bringing democracy to the world as it claims, the US is doing its best to stifle its progress. Talking exclusively to American government officials, including agents who reveal for the first time on film how the CIA ran its war in Latin America in the 80s, Pilger argues that true popular democracy is more likely to be found among the poorest in Latin America, whose movements are often ignored in the West.

Michael Dwyer (1772–1825) was a Society of the United Irishmen leader in the 1798 rebellion. He later fought a guerilla campaign against the British Army in the Wicklow Mountains from 1798-1803. Dwyer was a cousin of Anne Devlin who would later achieve fame for her loyalty to the rebel cause following the suppression of Robert Emmet's rebellion.

John Perkins spoke nearly 2 years ago on Democracy Now about how the dark world of “the jackals” and international assisination worked, especially in the region of Latin America, (as earlier outlined in the Pilger film) which the US tried to dominate, and now looks like it has failed. Only days ago, another country, one which saw horrific terrorism from US sponsored groups in the past, El Salvador, voted in another latino leftist governement. As the Guardian outlines::

Last Sunday's election in El Salvador, in which the leftist FMLN (Farabundo Martí Front for National Liberation) won the presidency, didn't get a lot of attention in the international press. It's a relatively small country (7 million people on land the size of Massachusetts) and fairly poor (per capita income about half the regional average). And left governments have become the norm in Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela have all elected left governments over the last decade. (Also leftist regimes/ governments include Chile, Cuba and Nicaragua) South America is now more independent of the United States than Europe is.

Anyway, back to Evo in Bolivia. Were his and his country peoples standing up against economic imperialism too much for the powers? Heres possible hows and whys that have led to the death of "Michael Dwyer":

...And it’s interesting that in the few instances when economic hit men fail, what we call “the jackals,” who are people who come in to overthrow governments or assassinate their leaders, also come out of private industry. These are not CIA employees. We all have this image of the 007, the government agent hired to kill, you know, with license to kill, but these days the government agents, in my experience, don’t do that. It’s done by private consultants that are brought in to do this work. And I’ve known a number of these individuals personally and still do.

Some time later, and to a far wider audience, his views were expressed on the controversial second Zeitgeist film (part 1 was a cult conspiracy theory film that was highest watched film on google video for a while).

Part II is a documentary-style interview with The New York Times best-selling author and activist John Perkins based on his book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, in which he describes his role as a self-described economic hit man. In that capacity, he claims to have helped the CIA, as well as various corporate and political entities, to undermine or corrupt foreign regimes that put the interests of their populations before those of transnational corporations. Perkins denies the existence of a conspiracy, because he sees the U.S. as a corporatocracy, in which there is no need for a plot, as politicians like Dick Cheney (who first served as the head of a construction company Halliburton and afterwards became Vice President) are alleged of working under the same primary assumption as corporations: that maximisation of profits is first priority, regardless of any social or environmental cost.

The real Michael Dwyer has been sourced. He was a 24 year old from Ballinderry, co Tip, he was into guns, signed himself "The Jeckel" on his Bebo site, seemed harmless and perhaps ended up in the wrong place at wrong time. But, perhaps he got a bit too interested in gun games, eitherway he ended up dead with professional Croat and or Hungarian mercenarys linked to ultra right fascist paramilitary groups, so who knows? The Department of Foreign Affairs says an official from its embassy in Argentina is travelling to Bolivia to check things out and confirm his identity. His dead body is the front page on Todays El mundo paper in Bolivia, the paper also has a detailed article with timeline of the events which led to the shoot out in Santa Cruz.
http://www.elmundo.com.bo/Secundarianew.asp?edicion=17/...=8734

He was first linked from politics.ie site by Mr Crowley from Tyrone who later states "grew up watching friends die violent deaths and politicians gloating about it on the TV so I can understand what his friends are feeling. .":
http://www.politics.ie/foreign-affairs/61194-irish-invo...73117

Pictures of a Michael Dwyer gun fetishist who has recently been in Bolivia with a link to his bebo on this site. I think it's him alright as there is an 'RIP bro' message from one of his buddies.
He looks like a right tosser, only 24 too.

Which links to Latino site, Inca Cola, in which there has been posted:
http://www.incakolanews.blogspot.com/2009/04/is-this-ir....html

Is this the Irish would-be assassin of Evo Morales?

Sure fits. Thanks to some quick work by reader RM, check out this Bebo page on a certain Michael Dwyer. ( http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=940012793 )

Let's check the points in common

1) Is Irish
2) Loves guns and fancies himself as a sniper
3) Is definitely in South America and according to messages left by friends is in Bolivia
4) Has Bruce Willis's "The Jackal" as the answer to his "What kind of Assassin are You?" profile box
5) Thinks he's hard
6) Member of an Irish battlefield simulation club

Sure looks like a possible to me. Has anyone seen this man mooching round Santa Cruz recently? Well sure looks that way, as this photo from his Bebo album has him placed in the eastern Bolivia area 116 days ago.

Plenty of discussion on politics.ie about this guy, much of it heated over photos etc, heres some of it:

Reading his bebo page is quite sad actually. He seems to be a young man with notions, not a fascist coup-monger. He seems to have a lot of friends in Tipp who missed him... I'm wondering now how involved he was or whether he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You have to wonder how the hell he got recruited into this 'new job and new BMW'. He was obviously lured some way or another and there should be an investigation to see if this is linked to anyone in Ireland.

There are messages on his site from friends and from what I assume is his sister over the last few weeks worrying about him and asking when he will be coming home.

It would be pretty pathetic to be getting ready to assassinate the President of a country while completing 'what assassin are you' surveys on your bebo.

the shoot out happended in a hotel. Would it be possible that he met up with some gun enthusiasts that were members of some group and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

you people how dare you - you do not know Mike Dwyer i do and u are sick people for looking at his bebo and commenting on his pictures. for the record he was not a terrorist or involved in the IRA as previous comments have sugessted he was 24 yrs old he was in the wrong place at the wrong time

By the way, my condolences to you, it is very sad that someone so young should die in this way and so far from home, and must be devastating for his family.

If you knew him then you have here a perfect opportunity to set the record straight. You could start by answering these questions:
- 1. How did he come to be in Bolivia, who hired him and how?
- 2. What was his 'new job' that enabled him to drive a 'new BMW' as he stated on his bebo site?

Hungarian online paper gives summary in English and short vid. In it the gang leader, Rozsa-Flores, had been in contact with a Hungarian with an Irish surname, Zoltan Brady, perhaps this is the connection which brought Micheal Dwyer into the picture?

Hungarians involved in plot against Bolivian president - VIDEO

The Bolivian El Deber news agency reported on its website that police had circled the group in Hotel Las Americas in Santa Cruz in the early hours of Thursday, killing Eduardo Rozsa Flores, Arpad Magyarosi ands Michael Martin Dwyer, and arresting Mario Tadic and Elod Toaso.

Bolivian Vice-President Alvaro Garcia Linera branded the group as championing a "far-right fascist ideology" and blamed them for former bomb attacks on the house of a minister and a cardinal. The vice-president claimed that they were plotting to kill President Morales.

Rozsa-Flores acted the lead in a Hungarian feature film shot in 2001 under the title "Chico". He was born in Santa Cruz in 1960 of a Hungarian father and Spanish mother. The family moved to Chile in 1972, then to Sweden and, in 1975, to Hungary.

Graduating from a Hungarian university and dubbing himself a "conservative, anarchist world revolutionary," he fought in the Croatian war in the early 1990s. In recognition of his heroism, Croatian President Franjo Tudjman promoted him to the rank of major.

It seems Irish media has still not named the dead Irish man. An RTE piece here contains the latest report and an audio file about the goings on. It talks about the history of Irish acting as illegal mercenarys in coup attempts and legal security firms

Irishman killed after 'plot to assassinate Bolivian president'
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/arti...8.ece

An Irishman gunned down by an elite army unit during a botched attempt to assassinate Evo Morales, the President of Bolivia, was accused today of being a soldier of fortune serving with an extremist Balkans group.

The alleged assassins detonated a grenade inside a hotel to which they had fled, blowing out its windows amid the gunfight, according to police. Three of the suspects, identified by state media as Hungarian, Irish and Bolivian, were killed.

It seems a bit dodgy though, as all 3 of the dead were found in their boxers, which seems there was no long fire fight in the building they fled into, but that they were shot, watch the vid on from Bolivia TV - PAT BOLIVIA which is on the Hungarian blog to get a very visual account of the proceedings. Family member confirms the identity of man killed in Bolivia
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2009/0418...ia=mr

A member of the family of Michael Dwyer (25), from Ballinderry, near Borrisokane, Co Tipperary, confirmed last night that he had died in unexplained circumstances while travelling in Bolivia.

Alvaro Garcia Linera, Bolivia’s vice-president, claimed at a press conference on Thursday that “a band of terrorist mercenaries, Croatians, Irish and Bolivians” had tried to kill President Evo Morales, and intended to destabilise the country’s left-wing government.

It is understood some of the group had been working in private security in the US. The two other men killed in the shoot-out were a Hungarian man and a Bolivian man with Croatian citizenship who had fought in the Balkan wars.

Boliva gang 'also targetted Cardinal'
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0418/...2.htm

In a press conference in Venezuela where he is attending a regional summit, Mr Morales said Bolivia’s police had the group under surveillance since April 3rd and he gave the order to arrest them.

Mr Morales has accused right-wing politicians and business leaders in Santa Cruz of organizing violent protests there last year to try to destabilize his government. On Thursday, he said the rightist opposition wanted to "riddle us with bullets," referring to himself and the vice president.

Mr Farfan said the suspected plotters tried to blow up a navy boat on which Morales met with Cabinet ministers two weeks ago and aimed to trigger "a spiral of violence" in Bolivia.

How Dwyer and his associates were shot by the 'security forces' sounds dodgy indeed, but my question is: Why was Michael Dwyer in Bolivia and why was he associated with that volatile multi-ethnic character Eduardo Rozsa? His grieving relatives and bebo friends wouldn't be able to answer that. They had no idea what sideline agendas were going on in his head.

It seems like Dwer WAS a typical tip dude, into guns and a bit of adventure (perhaps had a normal enoug Irish romantic RA streak and fancied himself a bit of a Dan Breen), he worked as a bouncer in galway before heading to boliva, he was there for 116 days, got a lot of cash quickly (enough to buy a BMW), possibly was recruited by a US "security" firm (possible/ probable CIA front), started to hang around with above "ultra right" "freedom fighter", got SS tatoo on his arm (see attachment photo, taken from pol.ie, taken from his bebo site), got into world of "action" (like a bond movie, taking out bad guys etc) that ended up with him shot through the chest. the situation in santa cruz looks well dodgy, far from a half hour shoot out (no cartridges, gun shots in walls etc) looks like the 3 were executed, at least one had hands tied behind back in the morgue, Bolivia is far far away from Euro cop behaviour (we have torture and assisination aswell, but normally not open and blatant...) we have to see how this unfolds...

There has been much discussion on politics.ie and other areas as to the exact political take the gang leader, Rózsa Flores, had on the world, he described himself as a "conservative anarchist revolutionary". He set up the hungarian national anarchist group amongst other things, this group and ideology is branded right / ultra right by most anarchist, leftist, anti fascist, anti rascist groups. As this story grows in irish, and beyond, media, i think it would be good for such leftist groups above to openly oppose and state reasons for opposition of this guy and his ideology. (im not sure how much anti-fa exist in ireland)

On a side note, it is strange/ sad how little discussion has appeared on imc-ie regarding this story. Perhaps it is that the com-space is now not used at the same level that it was, or perhaps the story is not of too much importance for irish activists?¿??, Whereas on politics.ie there is a huge amount of commentry. Eitherway, , i feel, the irish activist, grassroots community need to discuss this issue and come up with some sort of collective response.

Ok, over to ye now.

This facebook link shows that Rózsa Flores was listed as a "friend" of Mike Dwyer. Now like a lot of youthful facebook groupies Dwyer accumulated a list of online 'friends' whom he never intended to meet - just to flirt with to create groupie good cheer. However, the volatile character Flores must have got in touch privately with Dwyer with a view to turning up at the same hotel in Bolivia. I'm no detective and I've managed to figure it out. Flores' ideology (a hotchpotch of ethnic and other grievances) doesn't need plenty of discussion by Irish activists, as it does not 'explain' or exalt his reasons for being in Bolivia. Leave complicated theorizing to the writers of doorstopper pulp thrillers. Our everyday economic lives in Ireland are worrying enough without having to fantasize about Bolivian political intrigue.

Flores was undoubtedly a fascist , no doubt about that at all so therefore his motivation to become involved in such a plot would be both ideological and financial . With young Mr Dwyer that remains unclear . He was most definitely in the company of a highly motivated and trained fascist mercenary who openly identified himself with a fascist ideology . And newly acquired himself a very large tattoo which incorprorated the SS insignia into its design .
Such tattoos are very common among the ultra right in europe who also espouse " national anarchism" and seek to blend and infiltrate nazism into the street style of the anarchist and anti fascist youth culture which physically stands in its way on the streets and housing estates of many european capitals in the 21st century . Much as "national socialism" did in the early 20th century . It also clear the young man was deeply fixated with militarism , guns and uniforms and appeared to place his personal identity within this sphere to a large extent and publicise that .
According to some of his freinds and indeed a newspaper this morning he had been sent to Bolivia for training by a security firm . Posts on his Bebo from some months back indicate his employer was generous enough to provide him with a BMW motorcar . Its alleged in the Sunday Times that security firm was Galway based . It appears Mr Dwyer had indeed previously worked for a Galway based security firm . Someone who claims to know Mr Dwyer and whos been personally striving to set the record stratight on his behalf for a few days now on politics.ie claims he knows the identity of the security firm but claims its nobodys business . He also denies working for it .

However no security firm seems to be taking responsibility for him at the current moment or admitting any link to him and indeed it was left up to an Irish diplomat based in Argentina to actually travel some thousands of miles to Bolivia in order to confirm that an Irish citizen had died and make arrangements for hsi remains to be returned to his family ..
If he was being employed by a security firm it would appear his employer has been very remiss in their responsibilities as an employer and for whatever reason is quite anxious not to be associated with this young man in any manner shape or form . Thus far the Bolivian government have not made mention of his employer either .

Therefore I believe the sooner this security firm is identified , or discounted , from this scenario the sooner the truth of what happened can be more fully established .

Lets hope it wasnt involved in any murky goings on around Mayo . Oil and gas and all that

Firstly Tipp dude,

Re - "It seems like Dwer WAS a typical tip dude, into guns and a bit of adventure ", sorry but you read that wrong, I was not, or never would as have plenty of tip friends myself, trying to make the point that all tip dudes, and dudettes, are into guns, they are not. I was refering to him as similar to the many tip mates I have, BUT, that he, also, was into guns and all that craic.

In terms of typical Tip, id like to throw in this gem:
Vintage Eddie Moroney Commentary
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POHuXU01bOs

I am sorry for him and his family, it is a very sad thing, when anyone dies. sympathies to them and his mates, I remember how odd and sad it was when my own mates died young. But, with all the gun culture, tough guy films culture that we live in today, i think we have to always quesion what type of world are we living in, what that has led to and continues to lead to.

My own opinion is that which Ireland turned into over the last 15 years or so, is, in many regards, a heap of shit. When last home my own mother said to me "The Celtic Tiger drove you out of Ireland", that is partly true, i was so saddened to see things turn so much. Yes it was better in some regards, ie having more of an option as to what type of life you want, as opposed to 3 of a family of 5 having to emigrate from West Clare, as was my own mothers family story. BUT, the changes that saddened me was the shift from quite a caring, tuned in, smart, funny, generous people to a group more concerned with money, money, money. Less craic, less awareness of how the real world works, and less participation in universal thinking and action for a just, sustainable and peaceful world for all. Dont get me wrong, as a nipper we all played war games "beat the english" on the farm, practicing pitch fork throwing at bales of hay etc, but later in life moved to developing an awarness of how the world works.

I think there are quiet a few people into the adventure side of things, for others they have political ideologies which i dont support, and they use violence in promoting their shite. My own friends who are not white and who live in Dublin, have experienced a huge increase in physical rascist violence against them in only the last few months. Like much of the rest of Europe, fascism is growing "They are all here taking our jobs, screwing the welfare" (which was the exact type of shite the Irish emigrants had to put up with in England only 1 generation ago) and with that things are getting nasty. Unfortunately I have seen this swing to the right in republican circles, now that could become very very fucking nasty! More young people are starting to get into that stuff, perhaps some of it includes the type of fantasies of adventurers who fancy being a bond, or jason bourne, playing the hitman for big CIA dudes etc.... perhaps Dwer fell into this adventure catagory. Im not sure about if he really was a nazi sympathiser, from "friends" reports he seemed like a much liked fella, but a lot can change in a short time, Bolivia is many many worlds (most of my mates here in Barcelona are from Latin America) and perhaps his thinking changed, maybe he had a bit of a manic streak and just got into a bad adventure which unfortunately turned out bad. Or maybe he actually got into the full nazi thing and did indeed get that tatoo with the somewhat hidden SS in it and from that did actually conspire with the complex characrter of Flores (again, check out his politics: http://national-anarchism.blogspot.com/ + http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National-Anarchism) to assisinate Morales? im sure in time that will become known.

Now in response to Josie, who stated "Our everyday economic lives in Ireland are worrying enough without having to fantasize about Bolivian political intrigue." As stated above, I dont like the "new" Ireland, my view is that Ireland and much of the world is in the shite, because The corportate sysytem has dumbed us down to such an extent by mindless films and culture (what are posh and becks up to no?) that we have switched of our understanding of the workings of the world, not participated in the process of organising our own lives etc. And as a result have got what we deserve; to be taken for a ride by a crowd of thieves. Now with the "crisis" and "recession" people have learned the hard way; the system is shite, and in the end fucks you. BUT, now that people have waken up, they are asking "how the fuck", "what the fuck, "why the fuck" and thats a healthy thing.

As to a healthier system, of which is probably the best example on the planet, for many like me it is about ordinary people organising themselves, their families, their communities, their countries. That, in theory, is how proper democracy is supposed to work. For many, HOPE is an important thing, and Bolivia, along with much of Latin America is providing that in bundles. Now, if Morales was assisinated, that would suit a lot of corporate vested interests. But he wasnt and Bolivia still continues to inspire. In support of these points id direct you to the first 2 embedded films, Pilgers "the war against democracy" and the John Perkins interview about CIA using "jackels" to enter countries to take out "bad guys".

If and when you start to learn more about participative democracy, learn more about how Bolivia works, then maybe, Josie and others, ye might start to really work for a saner Ireland (Christ it needs it). For example, Bolivan people, the Quechua speaking indigineos simply stood up and said "fuck off" to the multi nationals who bought out the water system and started increasing the cost of water (perfect exampe of how and why neo liberal capitalist model does not work, unless your in the top 3% who has all the cash...). Now if Ireland was to take a leaf out of the Bolivian book, they would see how our resources in Rossport were sold off to thieves by thieves, they would get angry and they would support Shell to Sea and demand our resources for us (crisis, what crisis, the gas would inject 540 BILLION into irelands pocket; http://www.indymedia.ie/article/91833 ) But that is not the case, YET.

On a side note, at the second rossport solidarity camp, there were people from Bolivia there. There to make the link that "our struggle, is your struggle", unfortunately only a handfull of people were there to speak with them from our tiny little island.

But to offer HOPE, Ireland is changing, as I stated on other post under "Global Crisis and the Re-Session" from afar the DOOM AND GLOOM OF RECESSION is all you hear, but at home the one thing that i heard time and time again was "the best thing to happen Ireland is that this recession has come, peopel have woken up again".
http://www.indymedia.ie/article/91915&comment_limit=0&c...49982

Summary is we live in a totally interconnected world, so thinking global acting local is about the healthiest thing you can do. With that, keeping Latin America growing healthier and healthier is very important, learning from them and doing it in your local makes sense, so with that if your not already doing it, please start.

A friend made an important point:

What we really should be talking about is why this assassination story is different.

After all there have been 6 reported plots to kill Morales.

& the last 5 were "foiled" by the combination of Venezuelan and Cuban intelligence work, as you all remember both Chavez and Castro undertook to guarantee Morales' life after the first plot.

Another thing that makes it different is the reaction of the Irish media.

It has been proposed on another IMC-IE thread that:

Man Killed in Bolivia was employed by a security firm to keep out protesters at the Bellanaboy site

The security firm employed by Shell to stop protests by locals against the building of the gas pipeline had employed Tipperary man Mike Dwyer at the site in the past.

Our investigations on Dwyer who was killed by a Bolivian Special Forces unit during the week in the city of Santa Cruz throw up some interesting findings. He has worked for security firm Integrated Risk Management Services IRMS based in Nass, County Kildare. It is owned by Terry Downes and James Farrell. Both Downes and Farrell are former members of the Irish Army Rangers. IRMS personnel have being working closely with the Garda at the site and one photo of such activity shows Dwyer as one of two men seem filming protestors .

Dwyers tattoo does not just contain the SS flash but the runic wolfshooks and triskelles inextricably linked with the 21st century nazi " national anarchist" and Hammerskin street scene . Which is just as fascist and racist as national socialism was . Its just the same racist nazi shite jazzed up a little to blatantly copy and kijack the black bloccers street fashion and symbols . Flores was a nazi . The ethnic european seperatist political movement he was attached to in santa cruz Nacion Camba is openly and violently racist against native Bloivian indians . Its fascist and racist supporters travel about in jeeps and vans with the swastika openly emblazoned upon them . Santa Cruz was a magnet for former nazi and Ustashe mebers fleeing post war europe .
Dwyer was a military fixated gun nut who did not just meet Flores in passing . Theres a number of photgrpahs out there of the 2 men socialising in each others company . Dwyer would have been in no doubt of the violent , fascist and racist nature of either Flores or Nacion Cambia . He would need to have been educationally sub normal not to know that the tattoo he recently aquired did not consist of multiple nazi insignia and emblems - SS flash , triskelle and runic wolfshooks arranged again into a triskelle .
Its also apparent that a very dodgy and repetitive campaign suggesting all of this was perfectly innocent , that Flores wasnt a nazi and that Evo Morales had these people killed for no good reason has been going on right accross Irish internet land for the last few days . And that the line of this campaign has been the one unquestionably adopted by the Irish media yesterday . There are also heavies posted at the gates of Dwyers house in Tipp warning of any nosey parkers

this is looking quite scandalous indeed and its becoming less and less apparent Dwyer was just some innocent caught up in something .

Mr Dwyer was a very foolish young man. According to the Irish Times today, he was providing security for Flores (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2009/0420....html). He was a known fascist out to destabilize the government in Bolivia. Clearly Dwyer was not a heavy hitter and had zero political consciousness and cop on when working and living in a foreign country. Even the DFA website says about Bolivia “It is recommended that travellers exercise caution and monitor the media for developments. We are advising against travel to Tarija and Santa Cruz regions for the present. ” (http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=8538). However, there can be no excuse for him being in the employ of Flores.

This was no game, and people get hurt by these thugs. This isn’t paintball. A relative of mine was murdered by one such fascist in South America, so to look at pictures of Dwyer hob-knobbing with the wealthy in nightclubs in Bolivia and him boasting of his BMW while profiting from such people makes me physically sick.

The apologists for Dwyer on politics.ie and elsewhere are going to have to come up with some better answers that the local Tipp parish bluster and the usual “Luv U Bud” and “Miss U Bro” bebo horsesh1t we’re all well used to by now every time after a gun goes off in a city in Ireland.

As for Dick Roche – nobody said he had any criminal connections in this country, so why make a statement at all? There are plenty of 24 year olds who roam around the world in camo, but they don’t provide security for terrorists threatening a foreign state. What do you think he was doing there, Roche? Auditioning as a replacement for Kathryn Thomas? Moron. Dwyer was hardly in pursuit of social justice, but exactly the opposite.

I sincerely hope Evo Morales presses on with his reforms.

Viva Evo!

I take the view that this young man was led into misadventure through Flores' internet Bebo inducements. While I agree with dunk that "Ireland and much of the world is in the shite, because The Corporate System has dumbed us down to such an extent by mindless films and culture (what are posh and becks up to no?) that we have switched off our understanding of the workings of the world..", I see no possibility of remedy for this cultural slough of despond through taking inspiration from hotchpotch blog postings by Flores and his likeminded associates or distant regarders.

This whole sorry episode alerts us to the power of the internet. It can be a power for good; it can be a promoter of intellectual darkness and political waywardness. Our "understanding of the workings of the world" is certainly manipulated by the dumbing down mass media with their cliched journo language and overload of infotainment. A constant skeptical attitude to the daily newspapers and electronic media opinionators is required by individuals who consume media. I suggest that a similar attitude towards what appears on the internet would help prevent ideological misadventures.

After all it has now been a few years since Morales came to power democratically and began extensive reforms. Since when there have been several assassination and coup d'etat attempts. During which there has been a widely acknowledged concerted attempt to fuel a seperatist movement for one of the provinces. Why, even the president of the country Evo Morales has gone on hunger strike - and all without a single paragraph of interest in the Irish commercial media.

But now a young man is painted as a mercenary and portrayed as having spent his life consorting with far right extremists and was shot dead in the company of several ex-combattants from Europe's bloodiest civil war of the late 20th century after Bolivian police acted upon intelligence and moved to stop an attempted magnicide.

If an Irish boy or girl were rumoured to play a part in a hypothetical assassination attempt on the current president of the USA, would the media reaction so softly issue photos of the suspect in his first holy communion suit and roundly avoid tackling the real issue for Irish people? What is that real issue? Do we want Interpol to investigate? Do we want to open an embassy with Bolivia instead of simply reading all our newspapers qualifying its president as socialist ? Do we wonder about the nature of the intelligence the Bolivian police acted upon? After all the only reference we've seen to Bolivian intelligence was in the last James Bond movie when hard as nails Mr Craig avenged himself on the smersh lot after a night at the opera once they'd moved out of the Balkans casino royal game into toppling Bolivia.

But as we ought remember because "Bolivar" told us, under the Bush administration, the USA were named as playing a hand in organising coup d'etat attempts in Bolivia. Venezuela offered her assistance, knowing full well that Aznar of Spain had supported the US attempt to topple Chavez.
http://www.indymedia.ie/article/89073

These things won't happen now. The bootie is on the other foot one could say. Obama did not hug, shake hands with and grip Hugo Chavez by the elbow taking his little book about the CIA black-ops in Latin America for nothing.

So we know that Latin America is off to a good start with the Obama presidency.

So we know that Obama is racking up more enemies than you could fit in a screenplay.

But do many of us realise the new twist to Ireland's international reputation?

Right up there with the veterans of the Croat war. Gosh. Begorrah and Gemora. We'll be seeing Moldovans doing shoot-outs at the Garda golf club next. But what of it, we really ought know by now that Ireland can't count on many friends in Washington, Langley, Maryland or for that matter La Paz.

MIKE DWYER travelled to Bolivia from Ireland with a number of men

Mr Dwyer’s family said yesterday they believed he travelled to Bolivia from Ireland with 15 people. The Irish Times understands the 24-year-old left Dublin in November, and flew to Madrid.

From Spain he flew to the Bolivian capital, La Paz, with three companions he had worked with in Ireland. It is unclear when the other 11 men who the Dwyer family believe were in the party went to Bolivia.

Sources who knew Mr Dwyer said the three men they were certain he travelled with were not Irish. Two were Hungarian and one was a Polish national.

One of these men knew Eduardo Rozsa Flores, the 49-year-old man killed with Mr Dwyer in Bolivia last week and whom the authorities there described as the leader of the group. One source said he believed Mr Dwyer may have met Flores in Bolivia through their mutual Hungarian friend.

There is no suggestion whatever that I-RMS organised the men’s trip to Bolivia.

I'm from Bolivia and I was curious to see how the Irish were taking on the news. One thing that should be made clear is that while these guys were not tourists, there is also no evidence that this was an assessination atempt. Every other week, Evo likes to say that the US/CIA is trying to kill him. One time two guys on their way to hunt for food (yes, in Bolivia some people still have to hunt for what they eat) and Evo was visiting the same city that day. They were arrested and the whole thing was cleared out and no charges pressed. However, this incident is now officially listed as an attempt. The other "attempts" are no different. The few times the gov't has produced "evidence," they were an embarrasment to the nation.

I certainly despise what the conservative leaders do in Sta. Cruz and I do support a progessive agenda. But you should all be aware that Evo is no saint, that the discourse he offers to the left in the industrialized world is far different than his actions in Bolivia. Never before in our history had we had a President who openly uses hates and calls for violence against those who disagree with him. There are entire parts of the country, like Achacachi, where the law cannot enter and innocent people are being burned alive because Evo has encourged them to take justice into their own hands. Journalists have become targets of bombings and several had to quit their jobs because there were calls for their head from officials within the gov't itself. There's also corruption problems of a magnitude not seen before..and the cherry to top it all, Evo's most powerful minister (his montesinos if you will) was the right hand man of Banzer (the most despised dictator and who built the wealthy eastern elites) is an alumn of the School of the Americas and has been involved in several corruption schemes, but nothing has been about him. Even at the grassroots levels there have been calls for a trial, but this guy is so powerful that he is untouchable. While you might applaud that he is taking land from the rich and giving it to the poor, you should be aware that he is not taking the rich's idle land, he is taking their most productive land with the most improvements. There's plenty of land to be had in Bolivia w/o even having to break up these states.

I think the Eduardo guy was a nut who came at the behest of the "civicos" and clearly wanted to at least train a sedecious army...but the whole thing of them trying to target Evo specifically is bogus.

The death of Michael Dwyer in Bolivia. ( Newstalk radio)
Irish journalist Karen Coleman discusses the death of 24-year old Irishman Michael Dwyer who was shot dead by Bolivian police in Santa Cruz, Bolivia on Thursday 16th April 2009. Karen is discussing the story during the review of the Sunday newspapers on her show The Wide Angle on Newstalk106-108. In the studio, the constitutional lawyer and barrister, Paul Anthony McDermott offers his views on the story and the credibility of the allegations made by the Bolivian police that Dwyer was allegedly involved in a plot to kill the Bolivian President Evo Morales. The programme was broadcast live on Sunday 19th April.

Response to Carlos

By the way, while doing his military training, Flores was at a Hungarian border post of sorts and while there, allegedly, he worked as the translator for Carlos the Jackel.

Agreed Carlos, the "assisination attempt" being foiled with the half hour shoot out does not look convincing, especially after seeing the Bolivia vid with the bodies (at end of Hungary site http://www.budapesttimes.hu/content/view/11706/219/ ) and little signs of struggle, gun carthridges, holes in walls etc.. Also fact that they were in their underwear. It does look fishy.

But, on the other side, it seems there was and is some strange things going on that need answering. It seems the Irish media is not covering the "possible" nazi links that Dwyer might have had or developed while in Bolivia, and the large cash sums being used to cover his expenses, hence the questions about who is paying and why!
(more on that on P.IE- http://www.politics.ie/foreign-affairs/61194-irish-invo...89003 )

If Morales had been assisinated, along with the other 2, im sure it would have unleashed ferociaous violence and that would surely have destablized the country. But it hasnt, and nuest@s herman@s in Bolivia struggle on. And in that they are to be supported, and thanked, for offering those elsewhere HOPE that change is possible.

Let's not forget all the prima facie bits and bobs. I daresay that if the Roman Catholic primate of Bolivia had died in that bombing last week an even worse spiral of violence would have been unleashed than that which undeniable has been and equally is clearly linked to an extraordinary presence of eastern and central Europeans of a certain profile in Santa Cruz.

is what started this whole thing. The cardinal, Terrazas, was a pro-democracy fighter during the 70s and in his old age he has become a staunch conservative (aren't all catholic cardinals?). Terrazas is extremely hated by the MAS party base because of his constant criticism of Morales rethoric and policies. I agree with him on cutting the church out of gov't, I also agree with the cardinal's message for tolerance and non-violence. Morales' partymembers have been caught red handed in various acts of violence, so they are not saints by any measure. They have already bombed TV stations and the homes of journalists for simply reporting corruption scandals. The cardinal has a bigger platform and he is actually a harsh critic.

So far there is no evidence that these guys were involved in the bombing. The really funny thing is that Bolivian police is notoriously corrupt and incomptent. So the fact that they could find these guys means that they were under surveilance for a while. Unless their plan was to unleash total chaos, it does not make sense to kill a cardinal.

Now, I think the three guys killed were up to no good, and most likely their deaths saved a few down the line....However, I do not buy for a second that they were after Evo. He is simply milking this for all that is worth and I hope people in Europe don't buy it and make him a martyr or something along those lines.

Carlos Pablo Klinsky Fernandez as his name suggests is yet another example of the melting pot of Bolivian society. Klinsky was an executive in the Chamber of Business and Commerce of Santa Cruz who so far have only produced one statement on the affair (from an ex-chief now resident in Madrid) is currently deputy for the group "Podemos"(= "we can" that ubiquitous political slogan of our age) which was set up by Tuto Quiroga a disciple of the former dictator of Bolivia, Hugo Banzer (1971-2002) an army officer who governed twice, first as succesful putchist and later as a constitutional chap. Klinksy is also lawyer (acting without charge "ad honorem") for the Croat born Branko Marinkovic who has been mentioned on these threads once before as meeting with the Dwyer group according to Argentinian media.

anyway - Both Klinsky and Marinkovic (who are indeed inlaws through Mrs Nicole Daueslberg Fernandez de Marinkovic) have now declared to whoever is paying attention that their version of Funderland, that is to say "Santa Cruz" is not going to win its independence through force of arms.

Marinkovic has been dealing with court investigations over a matter of stealing land from indiginous communities to create two new latifundia (or very very big farms) which got the cute names "Yasminka" and "Laguna Corazón". Which brings us to "latifundia". As some readers who paid attention during either the intermediate certificate or its replacement junior certificate history classes will remember, latifundia or "very very big farms" were once popular with the ruling classes of Europe, most particularly in Spain and Italy where their eventual breakup led to all sorts of things like the conditions to breed the mafia and the falange.

It is estimated that 40 families, some of whom are Arabic, German and Croatian control the economy and latifundia of Santa Cruz. (c/f Ximena Soruco, "Los barones del Oriente: El poder en Santa Cruz ayer y hoy"; Fundación Tierra .) From 1953 to 2002, a little more than 11,000 citizens received 18,8 million hectares in Santa Cruz. Only 24 title holders were registered as holding latifundia greater than 20,000 hectares and 4 individuals with big families under a tree and white hats boasted latifundia larger than 50,000 hectares.

How big is a hectare?

Louth as I'm fond of reminding people has 82,631 hectares & takes up 3.3% of the hectarage of our multi-cultural multi-lingual land.

Now the far-right who are in the history books as using their great wealth and influence to back Banzer's coup d'etat are now dealing with this story in not only predictable ways (they know nothing) but also moving at long last on the third parabola of possibility I outlined.

Sergio Antelo the leader of the urban far-right Santa Cruz group "Nación Camba" whose horrid little flags combine Irish celtic crosses with stars and falangist mixes of red and black (not our beloved anarchist mix of red and black) has opined that the group led by Rozsa in whose company Dwyer died - were in fact "double agents"....."pretending to be pro-independence.........but really doing their best to undermine funderland" Quite how that would work out I don't as of yet know. But this story is becoming more and more interesting and I remind readers that we still haven't examined the Croat links at great depth or moved on to examine the Saudi Arabian holdings in Bolivia.

Though the sound quality is reported as having been poor on the mobile phone recorded video, it is being considered yet another bit of damning evidence that Eduardo Rozsa Flores was a terrorist - but also offers the first evidence that Dwyer sat in on and took part in that type of discussion which qualifies premeditation and thus conspiracy to murder.

http://www.ansa.it/ansalatina/notizie/notiziari/bolivia....html

Meanwhile Hungarian media reports that Andres Nagy a member of the an organisation called "The Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta Federation of Autonomous Priories" announced yesterday that it would launch an international campaign to collect the 15,000 dollars legal fees for Toaso, one of the survivors of the shoot-out who is currently held in isolation in a La Paz prison.

The "SOSJJKMFAP" is in no way to be confused with the nice people who do first aid at GAA matches or even their sinisteresque upper order masters who are quite rightly a very feared bunch of right wing RC heads. They are in fact a pseudo-chivalric order of the type which neo-nazi's love and most of their members are found in Hungary, Romania and Croatia. Their most famous member is Michel Roger Lafosse, who falsely claims to the heir to throne of Scotland and a direct descendent of the last Stuarts, such as bonny prince Charlie and the one who became a bishop in Rome and had no kids. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Roger_Lafosse

These people really put the fantasy into Funderland and it is extraordinary how the Irish Times did not report that the prosecutor who had last week said he had at that time no evidence of conspiracy to murder has now presented the first such evidence. Instead they published the ridiculous notions that Santa Cruz owes its independence struggle to some medieval squabble with the Incan empire and not the strategy of the children of the colonies of far-right Croatian nazis. & have rather lately decided to report that the prosecutor, who was very quoted in Ireland as being authorative when not damning Dwyer, now "claims to have a video".

I've attached a photo taken by AP which is running on the continental TeleSUR TV channel which shows him bringing a press conference through it.

Contrary to the IT report that he claims to have a video - here he is showing it. = FACT

The owner of the Hotel Americas where the group were killed, (where now according to the Irish autopsy we know Dwyer was killed with a single shot), has begun to change his tone in statements to the press.

He has produced a photocopy of the ID used by Eduardo Rozsa Flores when he checked the group in.

Jorge Hurtado Flores is the name that appeared on the obviously forged document. Whilst showing the photocopy to journalists Hernan Rosel explained that that was why he was so surprised when the dead man was identified with a different name on Thursday April 16th. I have never thought hoteliers to be quite so easily surprised. But Eduardo not only called himself Jorge, it also transpires that he had another ID card too where the name Germán Aguilera Roca appears. Gosh :- Eduardo, Jorge or German seems so beyond the usual pattern of aliases where one tries to stick with one false identity or failing that keep the same first name so as not to confuse your travelling companions. Perhaps he answered to a nickname instead?

Also of interest is the titbit statement from the COTAS company, they are the second largest fixed line telephone operator in Bolivia, based in Santa Cruz and also offer internet services, mobiles, GSP and the usual goodies even including downloadable games and ringtones. Now it was on their patch that the Bolivian police found the cache of arms. Some boring types dwell on the fact that many of these arms appeared to be of either a WW1 or WW2 vintage. Perhaps they had arrived on a Uboat? But as we know from reading history books those guns really do work just as well if not a bit slower.

anyway -

COTAS denies that the stand for thier company at the EXPOBOLIVIA exhibition which rather than showcasing the latest phones stockpiled old guns was leased to Jorge Hurtado Flores or as we now know the late Mr Dwyer's pal Eduardo Rozsa Flores.

not a bit of it.

They say that contract number 035339 was leased to “Austin National Company and its representative José María Romero Fine and dandy say you, there are only a few million Romeros on the planet Jose Maria is one of the most prevalent first names in the Spanish speaking world, we really are narrowing down the fields of inquiry here thank you Iosaf, what about the "Austin National Company"?

well there's a thing.

The Austin National Company doesn't exist not even on the Bolivian list of company names where if you look carefully you'll see you could if you wanted to buy a company using that name online right now, if you had either the credit rating or inclination. But you would be getting confused in the yellow or as Irish people call them "golden pages" with the Austin Investment company or the Austin Powder company, both of which do keep a low profile on their Bolivian operations but are a port of call elsewhere on the continent in their sister offices if you are looking for explosives .

indeed give me a pulitzer for now finding a speculative link which no Bolivian media has yet mentioned between the C4 explosive not sold or used in Bolivia, seized in that stall and our engaging little story of Funderland.

Bolivians link Dwyer to boss behind mercenary gang
Irish Examiner, By Stephen Rogers
Tuesday, April 21, 2009
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2009/0428...ia=mr

BOLIVIAN authorities believe Irishman Michael Dwyer and two others gunned down by security forces following an alleged plot to kill the president last week were working for a rich local businessman (Branko Marinkovic) who wants to divide the country.

Serbian media yesterday reported that Bolivian officials had linked Dwyer, Eduardo Rosza Flores and Magyarosi Árpád to the businessman who is of Croat descent and who, they believe, is fighting for the autonomy of rich provinces in the South American country.

The businessman, whose father is a Croat and mother is Montenegrin, allegedly organised terrorists and brought in Montenegrin mercenaries, according to Serbian newspaper Blic.

Dwyer was shot six times. (not correct due to latest autopsy findings)

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama has rejected any suggestion that the alleged plot to kill Bolivian President Evo Morales was in any way backed by his country’s embassy.

BLIC : http://www.blic.rs/svet.php?id=88946

Croatian media reported that the Bolivian government assassination connect with Branko Marinkovic, a rich businessman Croatian-Montenegrin origin and Head of the opposition, which advocates autonomy for the rich provinces.

Bolivian state media claim that the manufacturer Marinkovic, whose father is a Croat, a mother Crnogorka Radmila Jovicevic, organized by the alleged terrorists. Simon Romero, Head of dopisništva "New York Times" from Bolivia, said the Croatian media that the journalists investigated rumors that leads Marinković mercenaries from Montenegro.

Plot Foiled? In Bolivia, Truth Is Elusive
SIMON ROMERO, New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/28/world/americas/28boli....html

“These terrorists were connected to an ideology of the extreme fascist right,” said Álvaro García Linera, a former Marxist guerrilla who is Bolivia’s vice president.

But the episode, with its dash of Balkan intrigue, remains far from an open-and-shut case of right versus left.

Meanwhile, the killings have raised a raft of nettlesome questions. Who backed such a group? How did officials detect them? Why did Mr. Morales send the police all the way from the capital, La Paz, to deal with them? And exactly what was a man like Mr. Rozsa Flores, at turns a poet and a war correspondent before his foray into the Balkan killing fields, doing back in Santa Cruz?

Mr. Rozsa Flores abandoned journalistic objectivity and took sides. He commanded volunteers fighting for Croatia in the early 1990s, but his battlefield experience was marred by claims that he oversaw the murder of a Briton and a Swiss citizen.

Returning to Hungary after the war, Mr. Rozsa Flores converted to Islam, a shift from his earlier association with Opus Dei, the conservative Roman Catholic group. And he found a new political obsession, explaining in a television interview last year with a Hungarian journalist that he was moving to Bolivia to organize a militia.

“There is a need for weapons,” he said in the interview, which was broadcast for the first time in Hungary last week after his killing, “so it isn’t about the boys marching in the streets with flags and bamboo sticks.” (How well was Dwyer aware of this? Did he support it the full hog, getting the tattoo to boot?)

Mr. Rozsa Flores went further in the interview, saying his goal was not toppling Mr. Morales, but achieving autonomy for Santa Cruz, Bolivia’s wealthiest department, or province. Envisioning a clash with La Paz over this issue, he nonchalantly described his goal as “declaring independence and creating a new country.”

Such assertions fit well into the way Mr. Morales’s government portrays Santa Cruz: as a region where powerful industrialists and bankers, some of them descendants of Croatian immigrants, want to secede from Bolivia in a rupture inspired by Yugoslavia’s disintegration.

MICHAEL DWYER, the Tipperary man who was shot dead by police in Bolivia, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, an initial postmortem examination has indicated.

The body of the 24-year-old was so badly decomposed that his identity had to be confirmed using dental records.

Journalists at a press conference in La Paz were shown a video reportedly of Michael Dwyer discussing how to assassinate Bolivian president Evo Morales.

State prosecutor Marcelo Sosa told reporters the footage shows the Irishman with Eduardo Rózsa Flores and Arpad Magyaros discussing a bomb attack against Mr Morales on Lake Titicaca.

Mr Sosa, who is tasked with investigating the killings of the men, said the three-minute mobile phone video shows the men talking about blowing up a boat with Bolivian ministers on board.

Local reports said the video was supplied by a man linked to Eduardo Rózsa Flores.

Carlos Alberto Guillén is the man who fell short of all the neccesary paperwork when selling his car to one Germán Aguilera Roca who I told you yesterday was in fact Eduardo Rózsa Flores He has now made his statements to the investigation and his lawyer Mauricio Ortiz in comments to the press as his name is made public has asserted that his client met with Flores using that alias and one other Alejandro Melgar Pereira who we have as of yet not met :-

Alejandro Melgar Pereira is the lawyer for CAINCO or the chamber of commerce, industry, services and tourism of the Santa Cruz region. I can't link him to our other suspects but I can link him to the BoliviaExpo exhibition..,

http://www.elmundo.com.bo/Secundarianew.asp?edicion=28/...=8784
http://www.redbolivia.com/noticias/seguridad-y-justicia....html

Just before we deal with a new twist to the names, some praise for the Serbian tabloid Blic's capability.

On this page of comments we see much mention of the Croat Branko Marinkovic, who the Serbian Blic now name as a backer and whose family and inlaw connections I've already outlined. Blic have a very good reputation for investigative journalism, they were the ones who put together the story of Radovan Karadzic’s bag containing a laptop and files which was found at a checkpoint. Links and timeline on that may be found on my newsroundup for the South Ossetian war on IMC UK http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/08/406523.html?c=on...01913 However Marinkovic has already publically moved to distance himself from armed insurrection and is well placed to resist the Morales decree expected soon to confiscate bank accounts and resources from the plotters I still suggest that money was / is channeled through a holding or shell company (forgive pun) such as the Austin which I touched a few comments back.

_____________________________

Now for something odd which nobody has touched upon and may be thought of as a further exploration of the aliases and names used by the crew. On the other active thread, "Dwyer worked for Shell", I put up an illustration of the Romanian folksinger who died, Mr Magyarosi Arpad. I had found it in the Romanian newspaper "Adevarul" http://www.adevarul.ro/articole/secui-mort-pentru-auton....html
I admit that at the time I didn't give much thought to the flag he posed next to and so called it "his funderland flag". http://www.indymedia.ie/article/91977?&condense_comment...50415 Since someone else repeated the illustration on this thread & we also saw identified in Glengad another neonazi Romanian and found a "veteran service patch" being sold for "operation solitaire shield" next to memorabilia of the nazi group "Legiunea Secuiasci" and not a mention of the Irish navy. My memory has been jogged & I've remembered where I had seen that flag before : the night of April 19th 2006 when the far right closed down the TV station in Budapest and tried to oust the government (c/f http://www.indymedia.ie/article/78484 )

It is of course the Hungarian far-right's sentimental flag which to a vexologist might be better known as the left hand part of the Hungarian state crest. & wonder of wonders - according to wikipedia on that crest the left side are the so-called Árpád stripes, four silver and four red stripes. It is usually said that the silver stripes represent four rivers (Duna, Tisza, Dráva, Száva).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Hungary

Now look at that closely. The Arpad stripes are named after the Magyar prince Arpad who lived in the 9th century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81rp%C3%A1d

What an extraordinary name the Romanian born Magyarosi Arpad had. It is so extraordinary that the equivalent of an Irishman being called ard-rí Brian Boru or Finbar CuChullain did not merit one drop of comment or surprise. It is of course possible that he was one of the descendents of the very few Arpad's who resisted Romanian communism and set up a rightwing groups in Canada & whose cremated remains are those of the only Arpad ever in the Maple Leaf Land and rest in Bayview Ontario. or that other one who without first name gave 520$ to Obama's campaign in Huffington. OR perhaps the Romanian folksinger was really Magyarosi Arpad the first one, sort of like a vampire out of the underworld series and that really was his funderland flag.

Whatever the answer to his real name is - I wager a silver bullet it appeared on contracts, ID and bank accounts.

_________________________________________________________________________

THe New York Times has entered the article list and is the first one in ages to mention Carlos the Jackal. Which is just plain silly and sensationalist. Obviously they don't worry about neonazi security guards and collusion with the NYPD and veterans of the US special services in Manhatten. Anyone who knows anything about Carlos, knows his storylines are pure gibberish. (c/f http://www.indymedia.ie/article/82351 ) & whatever and whoever is behind the Rozas Flores and Dwyer gang - they are not really vampires and they are not speaking gibberish.

THE Government is facing demands for an investigation into the employment of right wing eastern European paramilitaries as security guards at Shell construction sites in Co Mayo.

It has emerged that members of the Szekler Legion, a paramilitary group which recruits among young ethnic Hungarians in Romania, have worked as security guards at the Shell Corrib Gas Project construction sites in recent months.

Among them the Szekler Legion’s leader 32-year-old Romanian Hungarian Tibor Revesz who worked for Integrated Risk Management Security (I-RMS) at the Mayo sites. There are indications other Szekler Legion members have worked in Ireland, with the organisation’s internet site selling patches associated with the Corrib project.

One patch, with a skull and Celtic motif carries the slogan “OSS — Operation Solitaire Shield 2008 Corrib Gas Project”, believed to refer to the Solitaire ship which was to be used for pipe-laying at the site.

The Szekler Legion have been implicated in violent incidents in Romania. The group openly promotes neo-fascism and race hate.

Among the Szekler Legion’s members were Magyarosi Arpak and Elot Toazo. Arpak, 28, was shot dead by Bolivian security forces alongside Tipperary native Michael Dwyer, 24 in Bolivia. In the same operation Toazo was arrested.

The Bolivian government has accused the Tipperary man and his companions of planning terrorist attacks, including the assassination of the country’s socialist President Evo Morales. The gang’s leader Eduardo Rozsa Flores, 48, was also killed in the raid. Flores was a neo-fascist activist and an “honorary member” of the Szekler Legion.

I-RMS refused to comment on whether they had knowingly employed members of the Szekler Legion. The company did state that Michael Dwyer worked for them until October 2008.

Sinn Féin Foreign Affairs spokesman Aengus Ó Snodaigh wants “an urgent state investigation into what these extremists have been doing in Mayo and whether proper security checks have been followed”.

He added: “If they are issuing patches for so-called ‘operations’ in Ireland it is a very serious development.”

A postmortem was carried out on Michael Dwyer’s body yesterday following its return from Bolivia last Friday. His body is expected to be buried later this week.

News just out : at 18h30 yesterday Bolivian secret service detained a Toyota Land Cruiser registration 1339-UKL Juan Carlos Gueder Bruno on the Virgin de Cotoca avenue of Santa Cruz. He was travelling in the company of his wife and niece at the time. Gueder Bruno is a member & former paid advisor of the Unión Juvenil Cruceñista (UJC) (= youth wing of Santa Cruz seperatists). His neice has made a statement whilst his wife reported the arrest to the Santa Cruz police today as "kidnap".

There are no details of the second arrests except that the man's surname is Alcides and he is known by the moniker if not alias Comandante Moseño

According to the spokesperson for the investigation led by state prosecutors Marcelo Sosa and Eduard Mollinedo, the detained men supplied arms to the Rozsa Flores - Arpad - Dwyer group.

Furthermore it is reported that the investigation has now positively identified the "five others" who Rozsa Flores had referred to as being party to the conspiracy (the day before) his interview with Andras Kepes of September 7th, 2008.

A warrent of location and arrest has been issued for Hugo Achá from La Paz, Acha is the husband of Santa Cruz deputy Roxana Gentile and once favoured candidate for Santa Cruz Ombudsperson. The prosecutors office in Santa Cruz has denied any knowledge of the warrent and its presumed connection to their ongoing investigation and have also fallen short of commenting on this interesting extra-policial intervention by the Bolivian secret service

meanwhile, it is possible that people of interest to the Irish authorities or society as being involved in supposed collusion between European neonazis and Shell security will attend the funeral mass of Dwyer tomorrow morning at either the Church of Immaculate Conception Terryglass, Tipp. or the local cemetery.

The most interesting addition to the pool is the name of one Luis Hurtado whose credit card details appeared paying bills in the 4 and 5 star hotels where the Flores gang stayed.

As I reported here, http://www.indymedia.ie/article/91977?&condense_comment...50228 (& just to note this was 5 days after the shooting just about when we saw Dwyer identified at Glengad & nobody not even the most avid collectionist of memorabilia had imagined operation shied patches), the group spent 82 days in Mrs Mrs Lorena Rojas's "Hotel Austurias" from January 12th to April 3rd. This was before we can find mention of their contact with an Argentinian convicted ex-military and putschist representative of the "carapintadas" and the more alluring members of the Croat community in Santa Cruz.

Human interest types will note that the movie "Valkyrie" had just stopped playing in Santa Cruz's main cinema which Dwyer's "girlfriend" Rafealla Cotrin mentioned in her TV debut last night.

anyway -

Daniel Gaspad and Gabood Dudob
are the 2 new names which have been added to the wanted list in the investigation headed up by state prosecutor Marcelo Sosa. These two men came into the story during the Hotel Asturias phase.

There have also been new Codenames revealed. Yesterday I reported on the detention of a "Mr Alcides" aka as " Comandante Moseño it now transpires that this individual is Alcides Mendoza and he is the right hand gentelman in today's illustration. The chap on the left is Carlos Gueder Bruno. He is 48 years old and identified as a sympathiser but not member of the UJC. Obviously many people are not familiar with the byzantine politics of Bolivia and Santa Cruz, so I'll refer some of them to these back articles which explain the role played by the "youth group" UJC in race and hate attacks :

State Prosecutor Sosa said that Rozsa Flores had a group of 8.

To recap - 5 people were in the Hotel Las Americas. 3 died and 2 were detained. That left 3 on the run known by the codenames, "superman", "lucas" & "el viejo" = the old one .

But now with the addition of Daniel Gaspad and Gabood Dudob we see a group of 10.

Hugo Achá is Superman I reported yesterday there is a warrent for his location and arrest and he is the husband of a prominent Santa Cruz seperatist deputy. She created a stir in parliamentary debate earlier this year when with her fellow party members shouted at Bolivian vice-president Garcia Linera, that he was "Failed terrorist" and her particular line was "rendite me, go on I dare you rendite me - and your grandmother too!". (I have attemped to make a verb from rendition just like the Spanish language can) interestingly considering how "rendition" entered our global language, Hugo Acha is currently in the USA, in the lone star state of Texas which keen readers will note is the home of the Austin group of companies whom I mentioned down the page. He really is like his wife, quite a confident fellow. He gave an interview by telephone last night and afirmed that in his 36 years of life, he has never been in trouble not even for a traffic infringement . I suppose this must be very intense for him for as we know negotiating a parking fine or probationary period for possession of canabis really does prepare you for accusations of magnicide.
Tellingly he has made no attempt to deny his connections with Flores. But he maintains that he never spoke about seperatism or armed action. Perhaps he just talked about "greater Hungary" and how Croatia went to the dogs since Adolf died.

Alejandro Melgar is "Lucas" he has now emerged as playing another role in the transfer of the car used by the gang which was sold by Carlos Alberto Guillén to Flores and that lawyer with tourist contacts Alejandro Melgar Pereira

Yesterday's detained : formally arrested, interrogated & in custody for 9 days more.

Yesterday Evo Morales spoke at length about what he feels would happen should he be assassinated (((and one presumes that assassination was firmly pinned on the far right and not murkied by concurrent assassinations of right wing figures such as RC bishops)))

He then got light-heared and jolly again and decreed a Mayday nationalisation, the first Mayday one since the 2006 decree 28,701 which nationalised subsoil resources.
Yesterday's was aimed at one company :- BP Air which controls the airplane fuel and lubricants at the airports of the Andean republic as well as many other such transport hubs around the planet.

Accordingly just as with that Mayday decree three years ago (c/f http://www.indymedia.ie/article/76095 http://www.indymedia.ie/article/75832 ) Bolivian military moved into the installations of the corporations involved and hung the banner "nationalised for the people" and stuff like that. The presence of soldiers at the airport had of course been not provoked comment as they had arrived on the pretext of quarantine for swine flu when Bolivia's airport was temporarily closed down this week, and the army divisions involved were part of the deployment of troops to close the Brazilian and Paraguayan borders ordered by Evo Morales as his immediate response to this whole Flores / Dwyer magnicide story.

Indeed, well over 50% of the Bolivian armed forces are now deployed in the Santa Cruz province under the varying pretexts of closing the border, guarding against swine flu and helping locate two fugutives from justice one of whom is now located in Texas, USA.

As I touched on at this comment in the last 48 hours ( http://www.indymedia.ie/article/73654?comment_limit=0&c...47057 ) there really needs to be a consideration of procedure and law within Bolivia, if all those outside who support her government continue to play the part of highlighting the nefarious network of Rozsa Flores and Dwyer and in turn not dwelling too much on the thorny issue of "shoot to kill". So the last comment on this thread showed the detention of 2 more suspects on the list of 10 of whom 3 are dead.

& the way in which Alcides Mendoza and Juan Carlos Guede were detained, wrapped in duct-tape and whisked off to La Paz was somewhat unusual and sinister.

The minister of the interior of Bolivia, Alfredo Rada has now admitted that it was not "correct" and the feeling in observers (such as myself) that the thing stinks of personal pique and unwarrented (literally) demonstration of power on the part of the vice-president is thus reflected in comment pages around the Spanish speaking world.

Meanwhile in Ireland we now see pictures of Dwyer brandishing guns. This is not illegal on either the northern or southern continents of the Americas. Indeed only in Europe is it considered weird to brandish guns, to the contrary in many places it is considered quite manly to empty a cartridge in the air during parties and festive dates. Handling guns does not of itself prove intent to magnicide or justify a shoot-to-kill. But it is one more point on the dot-to-dots we see and which we are busy and dedicated in using our crayons to join up to explore the theme of collusion in Ireland.

We can't have funderland irregularity going on back in La Paz if that picture is not to go wonky now.

The most important little word is :- "pretext".

How Dwyer and his associates were shot by the 'security forces' seems odd indeed, but my question is: Why was Michael Dwyer in Bolivia and why was he associated with that volatile multi-ethnic character Eduardo Rozsa? His grieving relatives and bebo friends wouldn't be able to answer that. They had no idea what sideline agendas were going on in his head.

Eduardo Rozsa-Flores was a volatile man living in a fantasy world of war and politics. One of his associates met Michael Dwyer while both were members of a private security system in Rosspoint. Dwyer was lured by Flores to a tragic misadventure in Bolivia. Irish media have overlooked the issue of private security firms at Rosspoint in their coverage of the mystery.
