Tibetans to Protest at Chinese Embassy on 10th December, 2008

Tibetans to protest at Chinese Embassy in Dublin on 10th December, 2008

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the Tibetan Community in Ireland will hold a protest demonstration on 10th December, 2008. The protest will start from 10 am at the Chinese Embassy, 40 AILESBURY ROAD, DUBLIN 4, IRELAND.

We are demanding an immediate end to the suppression of human rights of the Tibetan people in Tibet. This year the world witnessed grave violation of human rights in Tibet, including the killings of hundreds of peaceful Tibetan protestors for demanding human rights in Tibet. The UN Committee against Torture has noted with “great concern” the Chinese crackdown which has “deepened a climate of fear and further inhibits accountability”. The International Community must hold China accountable for the brutal crackdown on Tibetan protestors during this year’s spring uprising. Tibetans deserve to enjoy the basic human rights enshrined in UDHR which is applicable to all human beings on this planet. In recognition of this basic right, the International Community must take more active role to bring an end to the sufferings of Tibetan people under the Chinese rule.

Towards this goal the International Community must urge China to withdraw its armies from Tibet as the crackdown on Tibetans has intensified in the recent days. Human rights cannot be guaranteed to the Tibetan people under the present circumstances. China has made little effort to engage in serious dialogue with the representatives of his holiness the Dalai Lama on the issue of Tibet and after the eight round of the dialogue, China said it “will never make a concession”. The US and the EU must also use their influence to seek China to make sincere efforts in the dialogue with the representatives of his holiness the Dalai Lama so that human rights for Tibetan people can be achieved through the resolution of the issue of Tibet.
