Ed Miliband has just agreed to pay 58% more for renewable energy and barefacedly claimed it will lower bills. The Government's green agenda is based on lies upon lies upon lies upon lies, says Ben Pile.

We still haven't learnt the lessons from the Grenfell fire, says Margaret Rothwell. To stop it happening again, we need intelligent alarms, second staircases, firemen's lifts and the retrofitting of sprinklers.

Keir Starmer seems to be confused about who's running the country, calling Rishi Sunak "Prime Minister" five times today. It's a sign he isn't taking responsibility for his Government's decisions, says Laurie Wastell.

Republican fundraising frolics at the Grand Canal on Christmas day.

category national | crime and justice | news report author Thursday December 25, 2008 16:37author by Paula Geraghtyauthor email mspgeraghty at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Fresh off the presses-picture story for the bleary eyed on Xmas day. Jesus died for our sins and the group at the canal dived in the canal at the Blackhorse in Inchicore to raise money for republican prisoners.

It was all go at the canal. Special Branch showed no sign of government cutbacks as names and addresses were taken along the canal by a generous supply of officers.

The tough year was represented by Dunnes crips and mince pies, gone was the Coke and Walkers crisps. Five brave or mad enough to dive into the canal for the sponsored swim did so, the water much milder than previous years. Cabhair raised some money and one of the swimmers having won a wood carving from political prisoners donated it back to be auctioned.

A short festive photo story follows on some fundraising frolics at the canal on Christmas day.

Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year to all
