Starbucks rebranded in Belfast

category antrim | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Sunday January 18, 2009 00:11author by éirígí PRO - éirígí Report this post to the editors

éirígí activists put the finishing touches on 24 hours of activism exposing the complicity of ‘Starbucks Coffee’ in Israeli war crimes yesterday.

The Botanic Avenue and Lisburn Road coffee shops were rebranded with near identical logos reflecting the true ethos of the corporation as ‘Zionist Coffee’. Finally coffee place mats, branding the ‘Zionist Coffee’ logo were placed throughout the city centre, exposing to customers the nature of the relationship between the corporation and the Israeli government.

"Complicity" is a bit strong, but I heard on al jazeera the other day that the starbucks boss gives 10% of the net corporate profits to the Israeli army (not to the Israeli state). That's probably not tax deductible, even in the USA, so the starbucks shareholders are all indirectly paying as well.

What do you add to the list that is anti-zionist but not anti-semitic? Tescos? Marks and Spencers? These were founded by Jewish families, who may or may not have been zionists, but now belong to everyone.

Star Spangled,

You pose a question about what criteria should be used for the boycotting of companies.

The answer is simple. Companies that stock Israelis products or otherwise support Israel TODAY should be boycotted.

Whether the founders or current owners of those companies are jewish, catholic, protestant, muslim etc is completly irrlevant. So if Tesco or Marks and Spencer stock Israeli goods or support Israel in other ways they should be the subject of a boycott.

If any of this companies cease to stock Israeli goods the boycott should be lifted. And again the religion of the owners of the company should be irrelevant.

Its not very complicated.

Excellent work guys hopefully we'll see more of this kind of action countrywide, i think most people are unaware of just how much zionist business there is in this country. This kind of action will make hundreds of people look at the facts......Well Done!! BOYCOTT ALL ISRAELI GOODS!!!!!

I didn't know Starbucks were Zionist, but any friends of mine that didn't know either will soon. Is there a website where other Israeli/Zionist brands/products are listed?

This stunt is a misguided one.

Starbucks are not stocking Isrealie products,
They have no stores in Isreal since they removed them in 2003
They have over 100 stores in other middle east countries
They are not on the Irish Palestine Solidarity Committe list of companies to boycott.
As a company they donate no money to isreal ( just check company accounts where such donations must be decalred.)

I applaud the activism of such actions, but why not hit the companies with clear links to Isreal? Follow the list of the IPSC. or any other reputable pro Isrealie boycott website.

"This kind of action will make hundreds of people look at the facts"

I certainly wish they would, especially before rushing off on some stupid action like this and damaging the work done by proper activism.

As for Southern Comfort - you heard it on the TV so it must be true!!!???

It's not only Western Mass Media that lies sometimes. Question EVERYTHING!

author by anti-Zionistpublication date Tue Jan 20, 2009 15:50author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The allegations about Starbucks made in the Middle East and Trafalgar Square, leading to the damaging and looting of, earlier this month, three Starbucks stores in London have been completely refuted by the company.

These allegations seem to have arisen in Gaza and Lebanon simply because CEO Howard Schultz is Jewish and hence are simply sectarian and quite literally anti-semitic.

I'm sure the activists involved in this culture-jamming exercise would be mortified to learn their efforts to make a difference have led them to this result! Or rather, I hope they would be!

Factual

I heard of some Jewish people when I was in New York who would NOT

go to Starbucks BECAUSE they pulled out of Israel some 5 years ago .

However if you are lactose intolerant you will their find their Soya Latte suits you

You lose some , you win some , I suppose .

Frank Furedi, a radical sociologist, discusses how Starbucks and other businesses are being slipshodly targeted by protestors against the Gaza atrocities, in this interesting article on the British Spiked-online magazine:-

After Gaza: what’s behind 21st-century anti-Semitism?
by Frank Furedi

"Anti-Israel sentiment is morphing into anti-Jewish sentiment, as more and
more people project their disdain for the modern world on to ‘the Jew’."
