Send a fax in solidarity

Christian is an antifascist prisoner from Berlin who was condemned to 57 months of incarceration as a result of taking part in antifascist actions.The social worker looking after Christian’s case decided to refuse his request for reduction sentence, however we will not be dissuaded. We are making pressure on the prison so that they understand the mistake in their decision. We ask you to send this fax en masse (this is international action) on the Monday 9 February 2009 between 8.00 and 16..00 at this number: 004930901442002
The aim is to block any incoming faxes, to sabotage their bureaucratic work..

With this fax, we are addressing our strong disapproval of the treatment of Mr Christian Sümmermann at Plötzensee (Berlin - Germany) Prison. Since the beginning of his incarceration in section 2 of Plötzensee, he requested to be alone in the cell, which was never considered by the prison. Mr Sümmermann’s lawyer has already written several letters to the jail administration asking why this has not been granted. The prison did not even respond to this request and is consequently not respectful of the law article granting individual cells for inmates.In addition, Mr Sümmermann could have work outside the prison however the jail does not permit this. The prison preferred to employ him, therefore restricted his compensation to only 120 euro per month.

Despite incarceration plan, it is difficult for Mr Sümmermann to arrange a meeting with penitentiary social workers, as the prison is unresponsive to his requests.

It is difficult for Mr Sümmermann to make an appointment at the prison hospital because if he has, for example an appointment in the morning, he cannot, as planned go to work.As a result he is constantly forced with the choice between making the appointment with the doctor (which is a necessary and fundamental right) and enjoying a couple of hours of freedom to live and work outside the prison.

We demand from Plötzensee Prison that it respects prisoners’ rights including those of Mr Sümmermann.

We demand that Mr Christian Sümmermann is released on the next appointment with the judge who will decide on the reduction of his sentence.
