news report
Monday March 16, 2009 17:49 by SEED
SEED had a day out on Sunday. The beautiful weather shone on us as we started the community garden in Swords. We started the garden at about 12.00. We picked a nice spot in the middle of a field in Swords. The field has been unused for over 10 years. The plot is close to a housing estate and we hope it becomes a strong community project for all, young and old. The people who came out were enthusiastic and it didn't take long to dig out the plot. We planted two little bean plants to start it off. |

Hear Hear, well done, thanks, keep it rocking!!!
Excellent work done, being done, and sure to be built on by the SEED crew. Was great to get out to meet yez, I look foreward to seeing how it all keeps on growing, both the garden, the group, the wider community, the physical environment @ Riverside. Maybe in time yez might get a mural done on the side of the community centre....?
Anyway, i havent had a chance to work on the audio i made on the day, should have it online next week, sorry for delay.

A great initiative - we need more of these all over the country.
Take a look at www.corkfoodweb.ning.com. The key to all this is getting together with like-minded people in your own area.
Motivation, a better world....
working together, better than alone....
future, a society that thinks democracy doesn't come in the form of a vote every few years & a grenner planet....
name, you can interpret it any way you wish.... (some people say, 'for Social Equality & against Environmental Destruction')
leadership? NONE, non authoritarian....
SEED, we hope it disappears with a strong community!
''why has that field near Swords been "unused" for ten years?''
Well, when I was a kid we used to have fields all around our nice little community. When the boom came the property developers went CRAZY! They bought every bit of green they could get their greedy hands on. That field was probably next on the development list but the estate built beside it is continuing development beside empty houses. Our field is unused because it is waiting for some apartments blocks and houses that wont be built!
They are together because it's better than being apart. You don't need 'high theory' to explain togetherness. If they continue working well together they'll stay together and not split asunder. I've one query after seeing the pictures of the vegetable garden they've dug in that field - why has that field near Swords been "unused" for ten years?
Can I just ask you, what motivates you? Why did you decide to come together? What are you planning in the future? Does the name have a meaning? What basis does your group work on (leadership? Libertarianism?) and, do you plan on turning SEED into a Dublin or national group?
Thanks,
Peader
(By the by... Fantastic work! Wholly impressed)
shocked, impressed, motivated, happy.... so many feelings about this project. Im so so happy to see this. Its an inspiration to me and hopefully an inspiration to all that see this. It really shows you can do WHATEVER you want with a little motivation and initiative..... Well done SEED, I will smile all day!
Well to all on this initiative; it's a great idea and well executed.
Let's hope you are allow to continue to use the plot now.
Mark.
Well done to all concerned. Your initiative must surely be an inspiration to other people to do likewise. More 'Land Banks' like this ...YES
Hi,
I am highly impressed with your initiative and would just like to say how much I admire your dedication and hard work. Its wonderful to see such positive activities and it's especially appreciated as I live in Swords myself :) I cant figure out exactly where the gardens are from the pictures but I will keep an eye out for them and can lend a hand or maybe some plants.
There is also another upcoming planting project ye might be interested in- I will be in touch via the above email address when the time comes :)
Well done!
