Lismullin Bridge as seen from Rath Lugh
Lismullin Bridge as seen from Rath Lugh

These photos taken recently during an inspection of the National Monument of Rath Lugh show that the Crib Wall has been planted with Pine and Beech trees and the Lismullin Bridge for farm access is complete and operational.

Incidentally in the second photo, which is the view from Lismullin Bridge, you can see the circular field on the right which is where the Henge is- the 2/3 that was not eaten up by the road take. This is where the Garden of Remembrance is hoped to be as proposed by Tara campaigners, plans of which can be viewed at www.sacredireland.org

The Green Spirit obviously lives in cloud cuckoo land if it thinks that the Green Party's stance on Tara will ever be forgiven or forgotten. The permanent scar on the landscape that the M3 is will always remind people of this. I sincerely hope that its hypocrisy will ensure its path to political oblivion ,but then politics in Ireland rewards hypocrisy.
The new secular religion has less solutions than the old asking its members to have 'faith' in it.

[Well done the protesters again.]
Hi everyone, the court cases for the Tara protesters were up for mention on
Wednesday of this week.
We have got a hearing date - well actually it is dates in the plural.
The 11th through to the 15th of May inclusive. The District Court in
Trim has been booked for a week! We may have to be there for the week as
well!
What an incredible waste of our time and money.

This should be highly interesting for us, the wider Tara campaigners,
even for Rossport and we will be publicising the "event" as widely as
possible.
Afterwards the video footage that has been in evidence for the best part
of two years can be made public. That will make very interesting viewing
for the court and for the wider public.
There are very few opportunities to publicise Tara at present and this
will be one of those very few.
The timing for Universities could not be worse of course, probably
deliberate, just coming up to exams in NUIM at any rate.
If anyone has an ideas as what should be done during that week please
get in touch with us privately.
This is an unmissable opportunity to protest and show the public what
has been done in their.
It cost a lot more than those voting machines as well.
At least it will finally be over, nearly two years .... Muireann

hi all here is the video from the action on monday 20th

action 20.4.09

planned action went ahead on monday at the ardsallagh bridge project at the boyne... protestors entered site immediatly stopping all work but this did not last for long as within only five minutes the guards and nine jeeps from M3 workers had arrived on site. it was a total set up. perhaps this is proof of phone monitoring. protestors retreated to the public road where a blockade situation quickly unfolded. this stand off lasted well in excess of an hour as M3 workers had gardai investigate some 'bent steel' all activists were questioned all names were taken, meanwhile M3 workers continue to block public road infuriating locals. after all was said and done the guards escorted us back to the hill and waited in the carpark at maguires eating the tara special...

On Easter Sunday I was on Rath Lugh. The security men have gone and once more any person can walk into this marvellous place unmolested. The M3 has indeed become the scar on the land that many feared it would but the planting that has been done on the roadside edge of the Rath is to be welcomed. Someone has been cutting up old trees in the Rath and the cleared spaces are visible and troubling. Also tracks of heavy vehicles are visible in the ground and if we are to accept that many traces of our past are on the surface of the Rath, including old circles, henge outlines etc, then care must be legislated for here. It is vital that the entire Rath/Esker be fenced off to all but forest workers and walkers. The Rath is not just a normal wood but perhaps a repository of many things yet to be discovered and connected to Tara's past.

Before the Rath was fenced off last March it was been used by local lads to ride quad bikes around. It was heavy littered with shotgun cartridges and its perimeter was been used as a dumping ground. Now before the fencing is totally removed this must not be allowed happen again. Can Rath Lugh not become a template for a better understanding on how we treat our small woods?

If the perimeter had proper fencing put in place and if some new tree planting were to take place in the Rath’s interior where they are needed then Rath Lugh could come away from the M3 mauling in some way intact. I feel that many people would not object to work placements or work relief schemes in environmental protection here, if such were offered. With unemployment growing this may be badly needed. Rath Lugh could be fixed up for a very small price and if a proper archaeological investigation was done to it then it might be allow take the place of importance it once had. The many people who love it could again be glad.

There are just three small woods in the Tara/Skryne valley; Rath Lugh wood, The Commons wood and Lismullen wood. All three are too small to be commercially viable or important and so all three have been ran down and are now seriously neglected. However they are very rich in wildlife. There are many badger sets in these woods, also insect, birdlife and fungal life. This includes the fungus Sarcoscypha austriaca which mycologist Edmund Gardweidner in Collins Nature Guide to British and Irish Mushrooms and Toadstools says is rare and should be protected. There are birds of prey in the Commons wood and they too need protection. With a bit of care and attention these places could become examples on how to proceed in future woodland management and we could finally do what we should do and protect the parts of our land not yet ruined. They can become area’s of special conservation or we can allow them fall into neglect and watch them become places of mindless amusement or worse; and or eventually be clear felled and planted for wood pulp.

Coillte too must live up to its responsibilities, they obtained these woods for nothing and they must see Rath Lugh for what it is; a central part of the Tara Skryne valley archeogical complex.

In the years to come a small group of people intend to keep an eye on these woods, we intend to document how they are being treated and we shall post these reports on. Much of the bad feelings caused by the Green Party’s support for the M3 might be undone if a serious and proper approach is formulated and applied to these three small places and the countryside which sourounds them.

Here in these pics Kyrie Murray, Tara's Bard demonstrates some models he made of Newgrange and of Lismullin Henge showing the astronomical allignments and the similarities between the two.

There will be Tara Protecters at the Hill Car Park every weekend ready to answer any questions so show your support :) You are also very welcome to visit the Tara Solidarity Vigil Camp at Belper Farm a ten minute walk away. Its the first farm on the right after Rath Maeve.
