Vomiting in your cornflakes with Kevin Myers and Shell

category national | arts and media | other press author Saturday May 16, 2009 09:27author by Blacbloc Report this post to the editors

Shrill old fartery from Mr Myers. They're getting desperate!

Shell are obviously in full-on panic mode juding from their favourite spin-meister, Mr Kevin Myers, at the Independent this morning. A little taste of his own medicine here on p.ie:

http://www.politics.ie/media/69118-kevin-myers-pens-ano....html

See his article at the link over there.

The three principal lies of the Corrib gas project:

That it is legal: it's not. It is being put through under a strategy called 'project splitting' which is illegal under EU law.

That it is a financial benefit to the nation and to the area: A few Erris people will have a few transient jobs in return for which their community will be destroyed, polluted and rendered largely uninhabitable and destitute. See Niger Delta for example. No revenues to Irish people from sale of our gas. Taxes offset against subsidies and concessions so nothing for us there either.

That the protectors/protestors in Erris are 'violent' etc: The violence is all from Shell and their private mercenaries IRMS. Everyone knows that despite the futile efforts of RTE and The Independent to say otherwise.

From the Shell to Sea website:

"COURT AFFIDAVIT
The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, has to make decisions about consent for the upstream Corrib gas pipeline. Before he decides to approve the recently-hailed C1 route the Minister must satisfy himself regarding any questions that may arise from the above extract, dated that it is. The Minister must also be satisfied with various developments with this project that have caused concern to some people in Erris. On July 8, 2002 an official from the Petroleum Affairs Division (PAD) of the Department of the Marine swore an affidavit submitted to the High Court stating that 'contrary to what is suggested by ***, the necessary statutory consents and permissions for the Corrib Gas Field Development have been given by the Minister to the Defendant'.

Compare this to a letter by the then Minister, Noel Dempsey on July 31, 2005, to a Shell executive about the legislative requirements for this project, specifically stating: "Prior written consent is also required for pipeline installation under clause 8.1(17) of the Petroleum Lease, however such consent has also not been given."

We knew in 2005 that all the consents were not given yet it was claimed in 2002 that they were given. The Department has never addressed this. "

Shell must be about to get dirty again in Mayo given this latest load of BS by their chief media stooge at O'Reilly towers.

It's certainly time to have a spin around the block and think differently about the Shell debacle. I'm only a humble farmer with a broadband connection, but I'd recommend that we pull out all the stops in relation to this terrible deal in Mayo. Shell are raping our country, pillaging our resources. We should look a bit further than Capitalist America...look down Mexico way and Venazelua at how they dealt with the oil companies. They threw them out — like we threw out the British 90 years ago — and they nationalised the oil industry. That's what we should do.No ifs or buts. There will be no peace in Mayo or elsewhere until we f+#k Shell and all the other corporate parasites out on their ears and give Ireland and Irish natural resourses back to our own people. Otherwise we're only making babógs out of ourselves.
