Bolivian becomes first state to legislate against animal circus

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Friday July 31, 2009 20:42author by Susan Boyle - ( iosaf & the sarcasm thing ) Report this post to the editors

Bolivia has broke ground in the articulation and assertion of rights many times in the last years & not only since Evo Morales was elected as popular leader of a Bolivarian style regime.

& this week, in what must be welcome news to Irish Animal rights activists, law have been passed which define the use of animals in circus as "cruel & unusual".

From now on no visitor to Bolivia will legally be able to take a ring side seat and watch acts of entertainment which include the participation of animals (either the inedible kind with eyes or the difficult to manage and train other kind without optic nerves but certain protein and indoubtable evolutionary stamina[ like the algae and jellyfish])

report from the Guardian explains it in a way which is probably ok to read
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jul/31/bolivia-ban...imals

of course local animal rights activists could add detailed links and reports in the comments.

... but I have serious doubts it is down to any one group in particular. A group which claims credit for something like this makes me sick. We all know that multiple groups work hard on every campaign, and to claim unique credit is a sign of pathertic media-whorism. Canyou prove this admittedly great result is due to any particular group and not the global AR movement with all its diverse factions? I think not.

I would like to say a very well done to Animal Defenders International who were responsible for this truly landmark victory. To learn more about them visit www.ad-interantional.org. The campaign in Bolivia is part of their worldwide campaign 'Stop Circus Suffering' of which a campaign running with ARAN is active across Ireland. To get involved with ARAN's work visit www.ARAN.ie
