Ciaran Murphy - Sarod

Ciaran Murphy plays the Sarod, its a 25 stringed lute originating from the Afgan Rebab. The sarod is the most popular and prominent instrument in Hindustani (norther n Indian) classical music. The sarod is known for a deep, weighty, introspective sound ) with sympathetic strings that give it a resonant, reverberant quality. It is a fretless instrument able to produce the continuous slides between notes known as meend, which are very important to Indian music.

Thierry Michel - Musette Béchonnet, Vegie pipes & Voice

Pipe players are usually called pipers and their fancy fingerwork pipering. Following both the French usage and avant-garde piper Jean Blanchard's definition, Thierry prefers to be called a sonneur ('sounder') and his budding art 'dronering':

-"Pipers do not merely play with drones on: we play with the drones. Precisely, we play the drones. Each note produced on the melodic chanter releases a myriad overtones from the choiring drones; a buzzing swarm or wild harmonies. A presence at times disturbing, eerie or beautiful. 'Dronering' in this regard can be seen as much as a way of listening as a way of playing."

This is what he invites you to join in as he sings and 'sounds' his French pipes or briefly give voice to plants and vegetables that rarely get a hearing: -"someone always cut them before they even get a chance, it seems!"
Thierry will play a selection of raw ballads & greens, and rare new tunes from France & the Great Beyond.
