Morales Proud of links with Iran

category international | anti-capitalism | news report author Thursday November 26, 2009 02:38author by Bazooka Joe Report this post to the editors

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Venezuela on Wednesday to meet with President Hugo Chavez. President Ahmadinejad is completing the third part of a successful South American tour where he also had meetings with President Evo Morales of Bolivia and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil.

President Ahmadinejad is in Venezuela to sign 270 agreements on cooperation in agriculture, industry, technology, energy and a number of other areas with President Hugo Chavez as cooperation between the two countries has grown in recent years. Iran has established strong ties with countries in South America which for decades the United States regarded as their back-yard.

BBC quoted Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro as saying, "We have a solid foundation, a solid base that we have created over this decade in our relationship, and it shows how false are the attacks of the world empire.”

In Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized attempts to isolate Iran over its nuclear program.

In Bolivia on Tuesday, President Ahmadinejad and Bolivian President Evo Morales called for the expansion of ties between the two countries.

“Free nations and governments should stand together to foil the plots hatched by imperialists,” Ahmadinejad said after holding talks with Morales in the Bolivian capital - Press TV.

Evo Morales said that Iran is a great and developed country and called for the expansion of relations between the two countries. Both presidents signed agreements to extend co-operation between their countries in the future. The two countries also signed memoranda of understanding which will see Iran building a dialysis center in Bolivia and assisting Bolivia in mining research.

President Morales said, “Bolivia is proud of its ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in various spheres.”

Typical behaviour from governments to make common cause with their enemies enemy. Iran needs another revolution it would appear to get rid fo the dictator. Afghanistan is no better and Honduras is on the edge.

Whats' remarkable I think though is that all the big oil companies are prepared to deal with whoever is in power wherever no qualms there when it comes to money.

Is President Morales aware that all free trade unions are banned in Iran? The only ones allowed are State run Islamic councils. Workers are imprisoned for going on strike.

Four leaders of the Syndicate of Workers of Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Company (Syndikaa e Kargaran e Karkhaneh Neyshekar), including Fereydoun Nikoufard, Jalil Ahmadi, Ghorban Alipour and Mohammad Haydari have been summoned by intelligence officials and arrested to begin serving prison terms, and are being held in Dezful prison, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today. Ali Nejati, the president of the Syndicate, is expecting to be arrested at any time.

“These sentences and arrests are emblematic of the Islamic Republic’s denial of basic workers rights in violation of Iran’s obligations as a member of the International Labor Organization (ILO),” said Hadi Ghaemi, a spokesperson for the Campaign.

“The denial of worker’s rights is a pillar of the government’s policy of repression,” he said.

The Syndicate of Workers of Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Company was established in 2008 in Khuzestan province, and has nearly 5000 members. The union has been recognized internationally by the International Union of Food Workers.

Just as the Oligarchs in Bolivia attack the Workers and Peasants to suppress democracy, in Iran ordinary people who protest are attacked by the militias of the Theocracy. President Morales cannot continue to ignore this.

Security forces and militia used brutal force to disperse thousands of protesters on the streets of Tehran and other cities today, resulting in a number of injuries and arrests, in violation of international standards regarding the proportionate use of force against peaceful demonstrations, according to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran. The protests occurred parallel to officially sanctioned demonstrations on the 30th anniversary of the takeover of the United States Embassy in 1979.

Protests also took place in other cities, including Shiraz, Rasht, and Tabriz. Many protesters were reportedly arrested in Tabriz after security forces attacked demonstrators using pepper spray and tear gas.

Eyewitnesses have told the Campaign that, despite an intense intimidation program aimed at stifling the demonstrations by SMS threats promising prosecutions for taking part, and the closure of metro stops to discourage gatherings, thousands of protesters appeared at Hafte-e-Tir Square, Kargar Shomali, and other locations, and were met by vast numbers of riot police backed up by quasi-official militiamen. The presence of huge numbers of security and anti-riot forces and brutal attacks were common in all reports by eyewitnesses.

Here is the testimony of Nbel Peace Prize winners have about the faked elections and the violence against ordinary people.

“We deplore the violence and crackdown on peaceful protesters, the increasing restrictions on civil liberties, and the imprisonment of a growing number of civil leaders in Iran. ” Archbishop Destmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Laureate, 1984

“If one country sincerely wants to support democracy in another country that is under dictatorial rule, the only thing to do is to support the freedom fighters who stand for the democratic institutions of that country. Done this way, the sapling of democracy will bear the flower of freedom.” Shirin Ebadi, Iranian human rights activist, Nobel Peace Laureate, 2003

“The Iranian leadership is violating the country’s own commitments to international human rights treaties, as well as contravening Iran’s own laws.” Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate, 1976

“We call for the release of all political prisoners, the secession of violence against protesters, and respect for human rights and civil liberties in Iran.” Jody Williams, Nobel Peace Laureate, 1997

Despite protests from the Jewish community in Brazil and in Venezuela, where they were supported by the oligarchy, President Ahmadinejad's 5 nation tour of Africa and South America went very well. Many new agreements were made and strong commitments were given to forge stronger links between Iran and the host countries into the future. For the most part the millionaire media who love to focus on the smallest negative thing in Iran have played down this tour. It does not suit the purposes of the propaganda trolls to have it recognised how much the Iranian leader is liked and respected among the true revolutionary leaders of today’s world.

What the Oligarchy thinks of it all

Elsa Cardozo wrote in the Venezuelan daily "El Nacional, "The similarities (between Chavez and Ahmadinejad) are striking." She compared the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Venezuela and the breaking-off of diplomatic relations earlier this year as evidence of Chavez, like Ahmadinejad, being "very aggressive in his rejection of Israel."

She continued: "In recent times, President Chavez's rhetoric has been very confrontational, like that of Mr. Ahmadinejad, with his anti-imperialist rhetoric: his calls for war, his military expenditures, (his) agreements with Russia and China, (his) agreements promoting nuclear cooperation with Iran. It is a very-provocative policy, very defiant to the international order (and) to international institutions."

Yes indeed Ms Cardozo, President Chavez and President Ahmadinejad are both very defiant of the 'international order' and more power to them. Nobody should bow to intimidation and injustice no matter how hysterical the trolls of the empire become or how much they manage to manipulate the truth in certain media outlets which they control.

As well as the visits to Brazil, Bolivia and Venezuela the Iranian leader also visited:

Sunday Nov 22nd the Gambian leader, Professor Yahya Jammeh hosted a state banquet in honour of the Iranian leader at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Kololi.

Thursday 26th, Ahmadinejad ended his tour with a visit to Senegal where he was warmly welcomed by President Abdoulaye Wade. Iran's car manufacturer, Iran Khodro Company, built the first phase of its factory in Senegal last year to export its cars to a number of West African countries.

What goes through the mind of Morales when he shakes the hand of Ahmadinejad , the same hand that is stained with the blood of Iranian Workers. Those Workers are Blood Brothers of the Bolivians who were slaughtered by the Oligarchy.

Bazooka Joe reveals something about himself when he writes about the "Jewish Community" opposing the visit of Ahmadinejad. It was the local Zionists who opposed the visit. There is a difference between being a Jew and being a Zionist. Bazooka Joe should strive to grasp this concept.

Iran Khodro Company is indeed worth mentioning when you consider how the workers there have been treated by the Iranian Government.

From 2004:
In short period more than 8 workers have died as a result of accidents at work. 22 shahrivar this year (12th Sept) is the anniversary of the death of Peyman Rezalou. However a few days before this anniversary Iran Khodro worker mourned the death of another worker Mahmoud Mahmoudi on the 28th Mordad ( 7th Sept), another worker Omid? died from hard work at 3 consecutive shifts. Iran Khodro has truly become a slaughter house . If Peyman , Omid and Mahmoud had been murdered in broad daylight and their families went to court demanding punishment for the culprits , those responsible would have faced punishment
http://www.sedayekargaran.com/khodroenglish.htm

From 2006:
According to reports received from Iran Khodro activists, during the past few weeks the management of Iran Khodro has sacked over 50 of the workers who had struck on 8 March 2006 over bonuses. The workers had gone on strike because in a year of record-breaking production the bonuses were going to be lower than the previous year's.
http://www.iwsn.org/labour/iran-khodro-50sacked.htm

From 2006:
The forty-day 'hunger strike' by Iran Khodro Diesel - where the workers refused to eat in the company canteen - has come to an end. This followed management's agreement to increase the wages of contract workers. This 'hunger strike' began 40 days ago in protest against the 300,000 rial [about one week's wages] cut suffered by contract workers. As 90 percent of the workers employed at Iran Khodro Diesel are on contracts and temporary agreements, a big dispute developed. Eventually management and the job classification committee agreed to raise wages by 200,000 rials. This brought the 'hunger strike' by over 7000 workers to an end.
http://www.iwsn.org/labour/khodro-diesel-070906.htm

Here the great Wobblies support Iran Khodro Workers:
The strike of the Iran Khodro workers to get their unpaid wages and convert temporary contracts to permanent ones ends in victory Last week the workers of Iran Khodro were successful with their glorious strike which started in the assembly hall and continued in the shuttle (body) hall and ended with the press hall strike. The workers’ immediate demands were payment of their unpaid wages (productivity and last year’s production record bonuses) and to switch workers on temporary contracts to contracts of the Iran Khodro Company itself.

From 2009:
We declare our solidarity with the movement of the people of Iran.

Autoworker, Fellow Laborers (Laborer Friends): What we witness today, is an insult to the intelligence of the people, and disregard for their votes, the trampling of the principles of the Constitution by the government. It is our duty to join this people's movement.

We the workers of Iran Khodro, Thursday 28/3/88 in each working shift will stop working for half an hour to protest the suppression of students, workers, women, and the Constitution and declare our solidarity with the movement of the people of Iran. The morning and afternoon shifts from 10 to 10:30. The night shift from 3 to 3:30.

Laborers of IranKhodor

Do not forget that Mansour Osanloo and Ebrahim Maddadi, labor leaders from Tehran Bus Company Union, as well as Farzad Kamangar, Hashem Khastar, Rasoul Bodaghi and Jafar Ebrahimi from the teacher’s trade unions remain in jail simply for their trade union organizing work, which is protected by international human rights law.
