Report on Greenore Cooley Fisherman’s Association Meeting Sunday 19th September 2010
A special meeting of Greenore-Cooley Fisherman’s Association took place in No. 5 Anglesea Terrace, Greenore on Sunday 19 September 2010. The meeting commenced at 10.20 AM after breakfast and concluded at 10.40 AM.
The meeting heard that Greenore had received 277 marks in the All-Ireland Tidy Towns competition, the chairperson of GCFA said “John Daly had been elected to the chair of Greenore Residents’ and Tidy Towns Association as predicted by the Archbishop at the March meeting.
Coastal erosion is a neglected problem in Greenore with much erosion taking lands south of the Cutting as far as Ballagan. The dust in Greenore from loading animal feed had not gone away. It was suggested that a suction system like the one used in Belfast to off-load animal feed from the ships was the answer to the problem. Not only was the dust a problem when it was being blown in over the village but also when it was being blown out to sea blinding and choking people in boats on the Lough. The secretary was instructed to refer to both the problem of dust and of coastal erosion when he was writing to the county secretary.
