Both Turkey and Iran have accused Israel of state terror against the activists on the high seas. From a Kurdish point of view I salute the brave peace activists and I sympathize with the situation of the Palestinian people in the face of oppression by the Israeli state. Yet we cannot forget that both Turkey and Iran continue to commit atrocities against the Kurdish population. Your post is ill timed. Sure, the turkish and iranian states are guilty of lots of stuff. But stop trying to mix that up with the current discussion about israels bad behaviour. And just because the turkish state did some bad stuff in the past does not give you licence to associate them by implication with every action that turkish citizens take. This behaviour subtly devalues the lives of the dead turkish activists and undermines their sacrifice in a public post whether intentionally or not. The Israeli "hasbara" have been out in force on the internet trying to do exactly that with doctored footage and false statements. You are doing their work for them. Is that your wish?
In fact why bring the turkish activists into this discussion at all. It is a completely separate topic altogether. I suggest you leave it that way
I never stated anything against the Turkish activists. I do embrace them with whole heartily. I think you didn’t understand the point I was trying to make. Both Turkish and Iranian states are both critical to Israel for their treatment of Palestinians. That is good and fine, but these states have no rights to give lectures to anybody considering what they doing to their own citizens. It is not what they have done in the past? It is what they are doing right now. I am also hoping that these 2 states wouldn’t use the genuine peace efforts of these humanitarian activists for their own political agenda. Nether Erdogan of Turkey or Ahmedinijaad of Iran care about human rights. All they do have anti Israeli agenda. They used this event for the political votes gaining. Turkey and Israel are still very much good friends and Turkey still buys weapons from Israel. Lets not be fooled by these equally undemocratic states. Dr, Fintan Lane happens to be my old friend from Cork. We have both involved in raising the Palestine issue in Cork for many years. I have been very outspoken person on Israeli treatment of Palestinian people. Those people who knows me, they know I wouldn’t confuse the two issue at all.
kiss and make up lads. We are all on the one road
Solidarity by all means but Vendetta is correct. This story confuses the two issues, or is that three issues? But why waste a good opportunity to stick the boot into Turkey and Iran, eh? Plus I see the word 'undemocratic' being used to describe Turkey and Iran again. As far as I know both these countries have democratically elected governments and Presidents. Of course the Kurds in northern Iraq are democratic too, with their democratically elected politicians being of great assistance to the running of Iraq for their American overlords and the parasite Maliki. So I guess it's really democracy all round and whatever you're havin' yourself. And yet someplace on a mountain in Kurdistan an old Communist is flogging a dead horse for all he's worth. Funny ole world.
