About 100 people attended a meeting sponsored by Workers and Unemployed Action Group (South Tipperary) in Clonmel last night to discuss the alternative budget measures contained in “4Steps 2 Recovery”

The meeting was chaired by Cllr Seamus Healy. Five WUAG councillors were also in attendance.

Eoghan O Broin (Focas Ireland)presented “4 steps 2 Recovery” on behalf of Community platform.

Tom O’Connor (Lecturer CIT) put the proposals in a wider economic context

Both presenters urged participation in Claiming our Future conference on October 30 in RDS

There was a lively discussion with several members of the audience participating.

The meeting expressed solidarity with the 7 local community development workers who had received notice of termination of employment in recent days.

Several speakers stressed the necessity to elect public representatives who are committed to implementing the programme of Community Platform

It was agreed that delegates from South Tipperary would attend the Claiming our Future conference.
