AIRP Hosts Premiers Of Two Films Dealing With Cell Phones / Masts

category national | environment | event notice author Wednesday November 17, 2010 23:50author by getouttamyhead - Alliance for Irish Radiation Protection (AIRP) Report this post to the editors

The dangers of microwave radiation from cell phones and communications masts

The director of the prize-winning film on the dangers of microwave radiation from cell phones and communications mast will premier his film “Full Signal” Monday night, November 29 in Dublin.

The first edit of the documentary “Silent Sickness” by Jim Ronan will also be previewed. Ronan has amassed hundreds of personal testimony of people around Ireland who are electromagnetically sensitive. Their personal stories bear witness to claims that lives are being destroyed by the wide-spread unregulated use of wireless and microwave technology.

Talal Jabari, a Palestinian/American, started his career in journalism in 2000 in Palestine. where he covered the Intifada up-rising violence for the BBC World Service, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and Al Ahram Weekly. In 2002, Talal jumped into TV news as an associate producer for CBS News as well as a field producer for the CBS news magazine 60 Minutes.

The director was invited to Ireland by the Alliance for Irish Radiation Protection, a confederation of groups around the country that are pressing for the establishment of human and animal safety standards. The Irish government has refused to implement the internationally recognised “Precautionary Principle” relating to the use of microwaves in contrast the City of San Francisco banned city-wide wi-fi and requires labelling on cell phones. Ireland has also also allowed testing in a live environment which is against the Nuremeberg code and there is no monitoring of the total level of microwave radiation.

In Ireland there is weak regulation, no standards for location of masts near schools and hospitals against an emerging health crisis and concerns by farmers for their families and livestock. “It’s shocking,” claims Tipperary farmer John Ryan, “that people are not aware of the consequences of microwave radiation.” Ryan, his family and farm animals all suffered various effects from microwaves which ended when he successfully had a mast removed from his land.

“Full Signal” talks to scientists around the world who are researching the health effects related to cellular technology; to veteran journalists who have called attention to the issue for decades; to activists who are fighting to regulate the placement of antennas; and to lawyers and law makers who represent the people wanting those antennas regulated.
Filmed in Ten countries and Six US states, “Full Signal” examines the contradiction between health and finance, one of the many ironies of the fight to regulate antenna placement.

Dissatisfied with not being able to explore the background story in the alotted 90 seconds required by television news, Jabari’s next move was as line producer and production coordinator of an award-winning 5-documentary film series entitled “The Shape of the Future.” He also produced 4 episodes for Al Jazeera Documentary Channel's flagship 8-part series: "Israel from Within". Since then he has continued to specialize in factual programming traveling to Nigeria, Guatemala and Serbia among other places, to work on various documentaries and doco-reality TV shows. “Full Signal” is Jabari’s first film as the director resulting in numerous awards around the world.

Also making his film debut is Jim Ronan, musician and stress therapist. Ronan is a qualified hypnotherapist with qualifications in counseling, stress management and training and education. “Many of my clients suffered similar symptoms and this led me to follow that trail. When many people make the same complaint, it is time to investigate. That is what led me to the subject of electromagnetism and the dangers of cell phones and communications masts.”

Ronan’s film is a first edit called “Silent Sickness” and reveals the testimony of numerous victims of electromagnetic sensitivity.

The event is made possible through the bequest of Enda P. D'Alton, of Raheny, Dublin, an electromagentism sufferer and founding member of the Irish Campaign Against Microwave Pollution (ICAMP). The group was formed because of concern expressed by many people who felt they were adversely affected by the emissions from mobile telephone masts and its purpose was to access, evaluate and disseminate all relevant information on the subject.

“It is our experience that many people are sensitive to these emissions and react unfavourably to them,” said D’Alton before his death. “This results in them developing a plethora of symptoms, ranging from burning sensations to sleep disorders and fatigue. There is also the likelihood that such emissions are responsible for the increases in instances of ailments such as cancer, asthma, leukaemia, ME etc.”

The films will be screened at the Best Western Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin 8, Ireland at 7.30 p.m. Donation €6 at the door. Seating is limited.
