How the Blob Destroys its Opponents Sat Dec 20, 2025 13:00 | Dr David McGrogan
Should a Right-wing, reforming government gain power at the next election, it will face the full resistance of the Blob. The 2023 ousting of Dominic Raab is instructive in how this will run, says Dr David McGrogan.

Political Conjugations Sat Dec 20, 2025 07:00 | James Alexander
Everyone assumes that words have straightforward meanings. Philosophers because they want them to and politicians because they need them to. But the first law of politics is that words are ambiguous, says James Alexander.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5On the matter of whether FF should disband I have no intention to express an opinion.
But NONE of the "reasons" you have given would be reaasons for a political party to disband. They are reasons expressing an opinion that this party and the voters who support it are inimical to YOUR political interests. They are reasons for you to oppose this political party. That's all.
Valid reasons for arguing that a political party should disband are along the lines "it has failed to convince more than a miniscule percentage of voters to vote for it" (and this situation is not improving over time -- OK to start small and continue if showing signs of growth/progress).
Hi Mike
You are correct to define my thoughts as opinion. This is why I placed them in the 'opinion and analysis' section.
To suggest that I was simply criticising FF as they act against my interests is to misread what I said. Their actions debase politics regardless of ones political beliefs. The 10 reasons (some were rushed due to a character limit) are a list of charges. I would be happy to discuss the import of any or all if you'd like.
"Their actions debase politics regardless of ones political beliefs"
I was under the impresion that for whatever foolish and misguided reason a rather large number of Irish voters support this party. Presumably under the belief, however mistaken, that this party represents the things that THEY want. That reasons of these voters are misguided and their beliefs mistaken is your opinion. That's the down side of democracy, isn't it, that wrong thinking people get to vote just like us right thinking folks.
Sure there are more than 10 good reasons to oust the FF Crowd . Here's Number 11 ( with or without bolied rice )

You assume too much mike. I never said that FF voters were misguided or mistaken. They are your words. Neither, did I say that they act against my personal interests.
FF do attract a mixed bag of support, from people associated with the building industry, to young people who have grown up knowing only FF led governments, to old people whose family got their first council house from FF in the 30s or 50s. Nepotism also plays a large part.
The FF core vote has declined in recent elections however and is set to collapse further in the coming election.
