Pope Leo, like Francis, is an open borders enthusiast for whom it seems no migrant should be turned away. Why are senior churchmen so blind to sense and deaf to public concerns on border security, asks Prof Roger Watson.

Call for Candidates to attend Meeting

Public Meeting Monday 6th of December

7pm Central Hotel Exchequer Street

A Public Meeting which will be held on Monday 6th of December at 7pm in the Central
Hotel Exchequer Street Dublin 2 will draft a declaration for all Independent Candidates
to sign for the forthcoming general election. The Independents Movement of Ireland (IMI)
is providing a platform for principled candidates across the country who wish to provide a
real alternative to political parties at the next election. Potential candidates and
all concerned are invited to attend the meeting to discuss the possibility of going forward
at the next election.

Speaking in advance of Monday's meeting PRO and Wicklow based Suicide Prevention
Campaigner Wayne Flanagan Tobin said:

" We would like to hear from candidates who wish to go forward to represent their areas and offer an
alternative to the two party system which has dominated Irish politics for too long. The time has now
come to abolish this failed system by electing candidates who have real principles and will act in the
public interest. We are determined to change the shape of Irish politics and are encouraged by a recent
Opinion poll which shows an increase of 'others' to 12%. Political parties have promoted both cronyism
and corruption and as far as we are concerned the party is now over. "

Vice chairperson of the Independents Movement of Ireland (IMI) Ms. Laura Grealish said:

" Two political parties namely Fianna Fail and Fine Gael have had a stranglehold over our
political system which has brought us to a situation where many ordinary people are now put
off politics. But we would now like to offer those people a platform to work for the betterment of
their communities on the issues they are passionate about from education to environmental concerns
to health care. We will ensure our candidates keep the public informed on issues through public
meetings and a more democratic and professional way of doing business in general".

Chairman of the IMI and well known campaigner Mr. Vincent Salafia would like to extend the invite to
attend this meeting to both potential candidates and anybody concerned with the consequences of recent
developments regarding the IMF:

" The IMI is an inclusive organisation which aims to promote participation in the democratic process and
this is something which is positive. No Irish citizen gave the IMF any mandate to enter this country and we
will be looking at the legal aspects of our government's decision. Our aim is to protect the way of life of
the Irish People. We will do this by selecting candidates for the next election that will represent those
people opposed to other vested interests and invite all to our meeting on Monday".

Mr. Salafia added:

"We need a system change, not a regime change. This is the only way of offering the Irish people a
real choice."
