Judgment Day for Irish Coursing Club March 4th?

D-Day approaching...

Is D Day for Hare Coursing Authority upon us?

I notice that Friday, March 4th, is pencilled in for Judgment Day in the long running case in the Commercial Court involving the Irish Coursing Club and a property developer...The Legal Diary on the Courts.ie website lists the case for this date. Everone concerned about the welfare of animals, and the preservation of Ireland's gentle hare will be keeping fingers crossed and hoping for a good result. Even the athiests among us are praying to God or whoever or whatever might be out there that hare coursing is dealt a ferocious blow in the Commercial Court. If the ICC goes down, the plight of Ireland's persecuted hares will be eased, as there be less money to fork out on prizes at the festivals of cruelty known as "coursing meetings", and the major national hare-baiting venue may have to sold off.

We hope too that the United Left Alliance will take a stand againt live hare coursing and press the government on the issue.

Just an update on the case referred to here: Judgment was due to be delivered in the Commercial Court on Friday March 4th, but the case has been adjourned to Wednesday, March 9th next. It's an incredibly important case, because it could spell the demise of the Irish Coursing Club, the body responsible for a "sport" that Australia, Britain, and Northern Ireland have banned.

To put the status of Ireland's hare coursing fraternity in perspective: Recently, after men were convicted of coursing-related offences in Britain, the judge not only imposed fines but also ordered the crushing of their vehicles...

Here in Ireland, the police direct traffic outside hare coursing events, while the cruelty proceeds inside!

are going to use pictures of coursing events, how about mentioning that those pics are as old as the Hills as the dogs are muzzled here in Ireland and have been for ages??
do yourselves no favours by using emotive langauge and implying this is an everyday occurance.

The pictures cannot be so old, the dogs are in fact muzzled, one has slipped its muzzle to savage the hare and the "tossed" hare has been struck by a muzzle, such strikes are not uncommon and result in severe injuries to hares. The sooner this so called "sport" is banned, the better. It sickens me , open courses are held every year here in the valley in which I live, right after mass on a Sunday. Who was it who said something about judging a country by the way it treats its weakest and most vulnerable, including its animals? Hmmm........ seems this country has a lot of catching up to do.
