Yesterday 4 campaigners were arrested as work was stopped at Shell's compound in Aughoose for over 7 hours. In a damning sequence of events, Gardaí continue to use inappropriate and unsafe methods to police the protests. At 7am yesterday, two people from the Rossport Solidarity camp locked their arms together inside a plastic and concrete barrel, which had been placed directly in front of the gates of of the Shell compound. This was eventually removed by 1pm by the Garda protest removal team. Following the removal of the lock-on, a tractor bringing borehole drilling rig to the Shell compound was stopped and two people climbed up on the tractor cab and the borehole drilling rig. Hauling Down From Borehole Rig
If your commentator is accurate then the Garda Ombudsman, the Garda Management and the Minister of Justice should be asked if they know that one of the Gardai so involved is on protest duty again. We read today about the judgement of the policeman in the Ian Williamson case - he had a flawed record on that day. Bodily punishmnent has no place in policing. Restraint may have but can be achieved with the minimum of force. Normally protestors do not punish their opponents. Gardai are well paid to do thier job properly so why be angry ,aggressive when all that is called for are those skills in which they admit they were trained. Their authorities need to take note and make sure that people with anger and agression difficulties are not placed in situations where harm accrues to others. This physical mindset was so obvious in the rape allegations.
The May bank holiday saw the annual Rossport Solidarity Camp gathering, this year across the road from the new Shell compound at Arghoos in Erris. There was a constant Garda presence around the camp throughout the weekend but despite the destruction of some 60m of Shell's bog road no arrests were made.

Beautiful work!
I hope everyone is ok - terrible behaviour by the Gardai again.
