TD's prank call to Mattie Mgrath repossession protest,on the night before the budget..

category national | miscellaneous | opinion/analysis author Monday December 10, 2012 15:32author by state of our nation Report this post to the editors

''Five TDs, cosy in the warmth of the taxpayer-subsidised Dail members' bar, played a cruel prank on independent TD Mattie McGrath as he battled on behalf of a farmer in trouble with a financial institution.

As Mr McGrath, who is diabetic, was in the 10th hour of a sit-in at the offices of Friends First along with five others, Dail colleagues were creased with laughter as they made a hoax call purporting to be from Pizza Hut, offering free pizza to the protesters.

In on the mocking skit were Labour's Michael McCarthy, Fine Gael deputies Tom Hayes and Patrick O'Donovan and Fianna Fail TDs Michael Moynihan and Dara Calleary.

Mr McGrath fell for the joke, he admitted yesterday.

In the call, Mr McCarthy who has a reputation as a mimic, purported to be an Italian.

"They should be ashamed of themselves. While they were warming their backsides in Leinster House, Mattie McGrath was out working for a farmer who wasn't even in his constituency," he said.''

I think it was wholly wrong for TD's to call a fellow TD while working on the night of the toughest budget of our times.

It tells us where their priorities lie,and these childish schoolboy antics should not go unpunished.

They get 100,000 plus in their salaries,as it is,some of them over that amount, and it hasnt been TOUCHED in the budget.

This is the respect we get from our TD's,they dont represent you or me,they represent themselves.

Sitting in a public tax subsidised bar, drinking and prank calling pretending to be a pizza parlour, while this man gets his tractor taken away..

Tells us they are really not in touch with the people who are suffering in ireland.

These pr*cks should be swinging from a lampost..

They were behaving like kids on a playground. Prank calls (especially to a guy who was about to get is tracktor repossesed by friends first)is absolutley wholly unacceptable. They should be fired.

This is the calibre of so called ''representatives'' we have in the dail supposedly ''representing'' the common person facing difficulties or on the bread line or both.

It has to be agreed these people only represent themselves, when it was pointed out that their 100,000 plus salaries went untouched, while social welfare was affected, and other breadline wage types.

I have to agree - this is not a democracy.

These people dont represent you or me,they are busy feathering their own nests.

When will people wake up and storm the dail.

If this was an arab nation, they would have stormed the dail by now,and hung these f*ckers up by their expensive silk ties..

My first point is:We get what we voted for..just last night on the frontline show, pat rabbite labour party member, replied when asked the question, why did you say welfare would never be touched,he said:''What do you expect in an election,we have to say these things''..Pearse doherty then asked him,why his 100k + salary was not touched, and child welfare was slashed,he didnt respond at all.As far as i can see there was no outcry from the public about pat rabbites response. At least he was honest about his dishonesty..But our complacency needs to stop,we NEED to get out on the streets and show our discontent with those who are actively doing so at every chance,we need to be out with them.Half the problem in ireland is complacency,we have to protest the dail and affect change.

My second point is:With all the recent scandals, and with the savita case, and everything that went on in between, with wasteful quangos, corrupt members of the dail, and the antics of the group of the five TD's who made this prank call to a man who is getting a lot of his property repossesed. It is no wonder we are where we are.Until we vote non populist parties, and give other small parties a chance we have no hope.

Labour like to critisise sinn fein, but at least sinn fein have spoke up for the working class and the poor, they are a socialist party, more to the left then the right. But i feel if we dont vote for these smaller parties,or other groups we will get nowhere in this country.

Look at the whole ming affair, this man was critisised for his dress sense,by men in armani suits who wrecked this country wholesale, and wouldnt let this man speak in the dail chambers. These are the people who have their say on our budget, and where is OUR say on this budget?

How come those on 100 + salaries dont get thiers even looked at?

Is this a democracy?No..I dont think so.

Democracy is an illusion. After this budget, and the block they put on an abortion referendum we certainly know the will of the people is not being acted on by those in the dail.
