The Girl Against Fluoride has campaigned against Water Fluoridation for a number of years and published here and is now announcing the end of the campaign with this letter sent out to supporters a week or so ago. At the beginning of the campaign, we were naive enough to think that once politicians and councillors were aware of the health implications of fluoride, they'd want it removed from our water. Lesson number one, politicians are bound by party politics and seeing as Fine Fail, Fine Gael and Labour support the water fluoridation policy, no one politician in these parties can affect change. Although Brian Stanley of Sinn Fein did try to pass a bill to end water fluoridation he was largely unsupported and indeed was derided for going against a policy so heavily endorsed by the HSE. |

There was a lengthy Irish court case about government introduction of fluoride in public water supply in the 1960s and the court ruled that the government .had a right to do so through legislation. In your interesting article I find these two statements which are of doubtful philosophical value-
Our state of consciousness creates the world. Change consciousness and together we help dissolve the current belief system . I think the writer is echoing Sartre's assertion that man creates his own world, but that assertion may apply to social systems and human laws, not to the physical world which is a given. We cannot will the world physically to be otherwise than it is, although we can abuse and damage it. As for belief systems, these are handed down from generation to generation willingly and can only be changed willingly by individuals and groups who are persuaded that it is good to change or drop beliefs. Human nature cannot be changed by 'consciousness' since it is built into our mental genes. You can try to guide frail human nature - and parents do and have done so since the beginning of recorded time - and hope that as adults they will be guided by their better natures. Many children well guided become lifelong persons serving humanity rather than thwarting and oppressing it. But other individuals succumb to temptations and malevolent urgings and plot against harmonious society.
Can those extreme Left Wingers and extreme Right Wingers name ONE fatality from flouride in water?
They cannot.
There are no casualties.
Flouride is harmless.
Not many years ago I was ambivalent about fluoridation, but there is nothing like a personal connection that can open one's eyes. A dear friend suffers from chemical sensitivities. Her affliction is severe enough that medical professionals have sternly advised her to avoid fluoridated water, both topically and orally. Now, her case may be on the high end of the sensitivity scale, but she does represent a small but definite population that suffers greatly when water supplies are fluoridated.
Add to that the significant % of folks who have hypo-thyroid conditions. Exposure to fluoridation aggrevates their symptoms, which range widely, but are not easily quantified.
"Documentation" in any of the above cases probably does not exist. Fluordationists demand statistics on "death by fluoride," but such calls are both irrational and diversionary. Individual's conditions are exacerbated by fluoridation chemicals. Symptoms are neither dramatic, overt or visible, but they are very real.
More broadly, it's not atypical for corporations or their shills to defiantly claim that "no one DIES from X!" Slow, methodical exposure to toxins is covert (at least, initially), but nonetheless damaging.
Bottled spring water is 'pure', except for the 'sparkling' water which has been artificially carbonated, like fizzy orange and lemonade. The parish pump has disappeared from towns - only the cast iron body with long handle survives in some places as 'heritage monuments'. The family well has gone into disuse as a result of piped water. In times gone by they treated well water against algae and bacilli contamination by sprinkling lime once a year. However, there are still numerous Holy Wells which still offer pure untreated water. Go on a Pattern some day.
Spring water is not pure.
After tumbling down through limestone or granite mountains the water is far from pure.
It will wreck your car battery.
Always put PURE H2O in your car battery.
Buy Distilled water ONLY.
Never use the river or your tap water to put in your car battery.
Distilled water is sterile i.e. mineral trace elements and minute solid particles have been removed by the distillation process. That kind of water is needed for car batteries as the minute particles (stone, wood and organic matter) could accumulate and clog up the battery operations. Pure water, on the other hand, is ground water which has been filtered as it seeped down through earth and limestone. During the sometimes slow seepage stage trace chemical elements in earth and stone are dissolved. They become part of the water without making it unfit for human use. Many of these trace elements are good for various bodily functions. Pre-Christian inhabitants of Ireland discovered that certain wells at the bottom of hills in the primeval forests had healthy water, and they venerated such water sources. When Declan in Waterford and Patrick from Slemish began to evangelise the island in the early 5th century they came across traditional well water veneration among the pagans. Pragmatically they didn't ban these wells, but blessed them and told the new believers to continue visiting the holy wells and say prayers instead. If disused family wells are cleaned up (algae, moss and animal waste) and tested for contaminants, they could be brought back into local use, with no fluoride added.
