The power outage in Spain and Portugal wasn't caused by extreme weather, but by an over-reliance on wind and solar. If the UK continues on its headlong path to Net Zero, we can expect similar failures.

Press Release
Dublin City Centre Shoppers Association appeal to City Council
-----------------------------------------------------------

2 July 2003

We, the Dublin City Centre Shoppers Association wholeheartedly support 'The Green Traders Association' in their campaign to stamp out dawdling on Grafton Street. In addition we are requesting that Dublin City Council examiner the phenonomen on Henry Street and surrounding streets.

The Henry Street / O'Connell Street area is now blighted by groups of people stopping to take photographs or gawp at the Dublin Spire. And this problem is going to get worse as the tourist season progresses. The lighting of the spire next week will only aggravate the situation when the shorter evenings draw in.

We're asking Dublin City Council to consider building viewing platforms on Henry Street and Talbot Street to allow rubberneckers to view the spire without stopping traffic. These platforms would allow shoppers to walk underneath unhindered by people attempting to take photographs and would allow tourists to take better photographs. This would portray Dublin a positive fashion through their holiday snaps and encourage the tourism industry.

It's only a matter of time before traders start losing business to out of town shopping centres. For those shoppers without cars this would be a disaster as shops decide to relocate, thus decreasing choice.
