Aware is a voluntary organisation formed in 1985 by a group of interested patients, relatives and mental health professionals, whose aims are to assist that section of the population whoses lives are directly affected by depression.
300,000 people in Ireland currently suffer from depression but many hide their depression and
never get help. Sadly, over 500 people take their own life each year. Aware, since its foundation in 1985 has been working energetically to bring support to sufferers of depression, and their families and to dispel the myths and misunderstandings of this devastating illness.
Daisy Days, Aware's largest annual fundraising event is taking place nationwide this year next Thursday 11th, Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of September.
Daisy Days involves selling packs of flower bulbs to the public in order to raise funds and create awareness about depression. Not only is it the means by which Aware provides its' services to the community nationwide, but it is also an event organised to raise awareness and understanding about the illness of depression and the effect it can have on one's life.

Depression, like nearly all areas of health in Ireland is grossly underfunded by the government.
To fill this void voluntary groups like Aware try to do as much as they can and hence greatly depend on the public for financial support.
Our helpline is open 24 hours a day:-
Lo-call 1890 303 302 (24 Hours)
Please call today if you are feeling depressed, need a listening ear or just want some information. You can also find more information on our website, particularly on:-
http://www.aware.ie/helpline.html
Volunteers are also always required for this helpline to train as Helpline counsellors, in order to maintain this vital 24-hour service. So, if you can spare three hours per week and can do an occasional overnight or part of an overnight slot, please contact John Bennett at Aware, 72 Lower Leeson St., Dublin 2, phone 661 7211 for an application form or email john.bennett@aware.ie
Thank you.
