The Strange Death of Knowing Stuff Wed Dec 24, 2025 19:00 | Dave Summers
In his Sixth Form Christmas quiz this year, none of Dave Summers's students could name the author of To Kill a Mockingbird ? previously one of the easy questions. Another sign that wokery is dissolving our culture.

Will Labour Ban Christmas Carols Next? Wed Dec 24, 2025 17:00 | Julian Mann
If Christmas songs fall foul of Labour's 'banter ban', Christmas carols ? with their 'offensive' assertions of the divinity of Christ that are deemed blasphemous by Islam ? are even more likely to, says Julian Mann.

Starmer to Push Britain into Stricter Net Zero Targets Under EU Deal Wed Dec 24, 2025 15:26 | Will Jones
Keir Starmer is preparing to tie Britain to the EU's Net Zero plans in a move that would impose radically stricter 'green' energy targets on homes and businesses, leading to further deindustrialisation and impoverishment.

Indymedia grew out of anti-globalisation protests and the building of new networks between them. Many on this side of the Atlantic make the mistake of thinking that just because the project began on US servers it is a US project. It isn't.
The most important indymedia collectives have always been those in Central and South America, most of the philosophy of the movement has come from the success of the neoZapatistas in Mexico and Chiapas and the idea of buying a big post office really never got to assembly suggestion there. This is something that most english speakers ought reflect on. The first language of our movement is indeed latin american spanish. And thereafter arguably brazilian portuguese where today the landless movement, (no land, no farms, no post offices) met et again with armed police trying to frustrate their aims.
The most important indymedia collectives in the future are "physically" active in arabic speaking countries, and whereas it's nice to see indymedia activists get on with their "post Seattle" careers in "alternative media" in the USA, I (may of my colleagues) take no inspiration in it, and I'd hope that few Irish acitivists would either. The attempt to place a "centre" on this network is foolhardy and runs counter to the principles and sacrifices which are the daily strength and woe of this movement. & really only serve the purpose of aggrandisement and US-centricism which invariably serves us little whatever its intention.

shheesh!
Where does this anger come from?!
Mr ghnñghnñghnñghnñghnñghnñghnñghnñ, certainly you know that each IMC is also autonomous and can pretty much do whatever it likes - as long as they work within IMC principles.

A while back some from the Urbana Champaign IMC blew through Dublin and talked with IMCers here - one comment that struck me from one them was that *most* of what they do is offline - the website is almost secondary to the real world media making projects. Urbana Champaign are more rooted in their community than most Indymedias - and this is an accomplishment that I am very jealous of.
If they can do it better in an Old Post Office - then more power to them.
but could become more, looking forward to the summer lads: streets, gardens, airwaves, wanders, films, walls, ground, murals, printflares, interviews, flyers, croker....
any further with a projector?
could really put that to good use

imc-uc function so well because they have such a non web base presence, the virtual merely backs up their real world process,
it would be good if we could have a lot more real world things going on here in dublin, ireland, are there plans for anything?
And now UC IMC have issued a feature length apology and "clarification". However the threats of action to remove them from the network remain. In the rush to american media space, professional acitivists who chose to abuse the indymedia global collective mis-represented both themselves and others.
As said above, the orginal language of this global collective is probably spanish. Many of the imc's began life as corners of interest in other sites. The history of European imcs has been as complex and difficult, and has few parallels with US groups. The most important indymedia groups are those now forming in the arabic and african zones.
No US based imc has ever been so important in either demographic readership / horizontal media pick-up or activist creativity, yet many have attempted to abuse the "logo" and "branding" to further individual careers.
