Day 41 of Peter's Hunger -Strike.

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Saturday July 01, 2006 23:16author by mOuse Report this post to the editors

"You got everything"

Peter wanted an excerpt from a letter about Palestine , published with
this article, it contains a quote by Terence Mac Swiney:

"It is not those who can inflict the most but those who can endure the
most who will conquer"

The heading and date of the letter, which was published in an Irish newspaper
recently was torn off, he retains some of the body of it, because of its pertinence
to his case. Someone brought it to him during the course of the week.

Day 41: He is experiencing little in the way of symptoms. He has sciatica in his back
and headaches, for which he is taking solpadeine. His movement is good and he
is walking alright. he is looking thinner and needs to sit a lot.
The anger is there he wants people to know that the people involved
in the cases around his daughter are murdering him and asserts again
his desire not to be removed from the Dail, by ambulance.

He re-iterates that he will not be force-fed and has made a written, signed and dated
statement to that effect. His treatment and bodily integrity are crucial to him
and wants to be accorded the dignity of respect for his wishes.

He had family visitors tonight.

Some more of the story emerges regarding the refusal by Costello
to countenance his repeated enquiries about removal of and altering of
transcripts related to the civil action in which his daughter was injured.

He repeats again: "Mc Dowell knows that this is not about the civil case
this is about a conspiracy against my daughter. Joe Costello is a white
collar criminal, he changed legal documents, adding:
This is not a cock and bull story."

(It happened at the Goose pub).

Mr Preston had himself arrested for damaging a shelf behind the bar of the pub.
He did so and refused to leave until the gardai were called. Three gardai
arrived and arrested him for damaging the shelf. He spent two hours locked
up in Clontarf and was rewarded with a court appearance.
( He is not a drinking man, his friend from boyhood says he only
drinks on wednesdays, he worked in Aer Lingus and was union).

There were three court appearances related to the shelf damage incident , in which
he sought to be heard. He claims it was a necessity to return to the scene
of the crime against his daughter.
Two judges were involved. At this time he had been lobbying Costello
for the return of the papers and was unaware of their changing. The culmination of
legal events was a letter ordering him to pay 250 euros or spend two weeks in the Joy.
He refused to pay the fine because it was dated from a hearing In Richmond court
when in fact the fine had been laid down in Kilmainham court. He spent twenty four hours in the
Joy and was released because he was refusing food and demanding water.

During the period when the files were 'missing' he continously picketed
the constituency office of Joe Costello. When they came back altered he asked Joe to provide
him in writing with a letter detailing the names of the people whom he had given the files.
Joe's response was "You got everything"

Mr Preston continues to maintain that he did not receive the files back as they had been given.
He claims that during the 'shelf damage incident' a Garda perjured himself and his refusal to
endow the local poor-box led to the escalating court action and his incarceration.

Mr Costello will not meet with Mr Preston to discuss the issue.
The Minister for Justice will not meet Mr Preston about the accusation that
this is not about compensation related to a civil case but, about a perversion of justice in which a
Labour Party TD is implicated in a crime.

If anyone can help with specific research regarding the law society ,
the Institutional Redress Board and the Army deafness double-charging scandal.
it would be appreciated. There was a report in the Examiner on the 9-06-06, regarding
the double-charging lawyers in these cases, is it possible to access the lists?

Other issues involving Peter are the necessity for a non-codeine based pain-relief.
He has a back/sciatica problem. The nearest toilet facility is at Buswells Hotel which
means he has to cross a busy road in a debilitated condition.

He is usually at the pedestrian entrance to the Dail during the day, and his tent is
pitched at the gate of the National Library in the evening.

Judging by press coverage Peter is not getting much attention.
I'm not sure McDowell or Joe Costello are paying much attention either.
I sympathise with a man standing up for his daughter but damaging his health is going to shorten his life or causing his death is going to harm his daughter who will be deprived of her father.
For his own sake he should start eating and stop this madness right now.

_ you're in Dawson Street. Mr Bloom said.
Molesworth Street is opposite
Do you want to cross?
There's nothing in the way-

Peter's hands are yellowing and his temper is increasing.

He is at the pedestrian entrance at the Dail, follow the route from Dawson to Molesworth Street.
He sits opposite the traffic lights.

(Ulysses).

The last thing Mr Preston's health really needs now is a large plate of spaghetti. Or even the legendary hunger strike breaking "cheese sandwich" offered to one of the spokespersons of those on the Afghan fast. in Saint Patrick's cathedral earlier this year.

Without getting technical on ye, yoghurt would be a good first meal. But He's not going to thinking about that till one TD gets out of his car and talks to him.
