Dublin Port Tunnel: The Hidden History![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Port Tunnel has been lauded as the solution to Dublin's traffic problems. However, as this film shows, the Tunnel will do no such thing, nor was it intended to. The December opening of the €1 billion-plus Port Tunnel was portrayed as the solution to the traffic problems plaguing Dublin City. However, as this film shows, the reality is a little more complicated, and a lot less encouraging. Even before the Tunnel was begun, the State was well aware that Dublin Port was unviable in the long term. Yet the project proceeded. Even before its completion, the Progressive Democrats started circulating a scheme whereby Dublin Port would be relocated to a new site. But this idea was not theirs; it was merely a reheating of a scheme that was already 15 years old, but with the addition of a €1 billion albatross, which has turned out to be as useless as it was predicted to be all those years ago. |
