The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Jump To Comment: 4 3 2 1Having written this article long ago with the intention of following it should the stage of high orbit weapon use (best exemplified as mazer or other attacks on satelite systems) become newsworthy & following the likely technological development of the space powers in said research, being convinced that such a demonstration would come first from the Peoples' republic of China -------
I feel it's being abused by whomever thought to start a discussion thread on an article in today's Irish times [ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/frontpage/2007/0920/11....html ] even though I did respond and already leave a comment. But of the few UFO hotstops in Europe, Ireland is right up there with the Canary and Azores archipelagos and of course Scotland where they speak Scots and fowkrepublic o cheenae is the scots for PRC. http://sco.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Interestingly, those 4 places are also in the lead when it comes to Marian apparitions. Significantly for a site which has featured Northren Ireland (Ulster Scots: Norlin Airlann [a wrangous neologism niver uised bi native speakers onywhaur at onytime.) Glasgow Rangers, China & Japan as weekly feature articles, offers us nothing on the Blessed Virgin Mary or much in the way of space. We do have this on NASA - the agency responsible for the public ooter-space program o the Unitit States o Americae. It is responsible for lang-term civeelian an meelitar aerospace resairch & pollutin the Yird.
Our neighbours are it appears very interested in Maurs (Mars) http://sco.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurs & have set about naming it but by their abscences you will know them - there is no scots wikipedia article on the Muin. http://sco.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Muin&act...=edit
The Department of Defence's release comes under Willie o Dea, who is most interesting,
Last seen aboard a naval vessel, posing with two jimmy bond look-a-like's playing
with splat guns. He did not hold a weapon this time. The 1947 files to date are released
today and someone within the civil services got paid to collate them.
Mass hysteria sightings are interesting too, including Fatima, Ballinspittle (virgins doing things)
and how the Church can transmogrify phenomena into a reason to kill communists.
For info on Fatima :- Try 'The Great Sign' - of course it was written under duress and comes
under 'imprimatur'- meaning phenomena that has been co-opted by the church to
relay splendid messages of earthly salvation , if we all pray for the conversion of Russia-
Our moving stautes precceeded the arrival of Ronnie Reagan- (understandably)
Very odd this list of UFO's. & it has nothing to with X-files that's hee hee scoffing journalism. The only state which has opened its files is Brazil. the former USSR allowed for much of its files to be read or sold and resulted in wonderful disinformation. The French, UK and US have only ever released small parts of information - but the UK who manned a telephone hotline in the ministry of defence for more than three decades (!) did decide to give up on it........once the stealth bomber stopped being top secret.
If we collectively put our memories together we will surely recall quite a few incidents of mass sightings on both west east coasts which went from "front page news" complete with pit-pat explanations as USAF craft crashing or UK RAF crafts in trouble - to complete retractions a few days later. Thus was the disappearing USAF bomber story which splashed across the Evening Press - anyone remember that? Most recently we've had the wondrous big bang without flash in Rush. So............ there is a general concensus in ufology and skeptics alike that the majority of sightings can be explained as - weather phenomona, refracted images of planets (often Venus) or satelites (especially when they re-enter orbit and break up like meteorites - remember skylab and mir) & long before you get to discs you have a plentitude of black triangles. We now know that the black triangles are varying types of the stealth bomber. But back in the peak part of this new "report" that bomber was a "top secret". We know it was flown from the USA to the UK on many occassions and just as the westerners a century ago marvelled at Lindhberg's yoke, the oldest amongst us wondered at those triangles. Yet not a mention of them now.
Anyway - the director general of NASA Mr Griffen (notto be confused with Mr GRiffen of the popular cartoon "family guy") has declared his belief that China will get to the Moon before the USA.....sorry "get back to the Moon"..........maybe they'll take a telescope with them this time and look at stars.

The files from the Department of Defence date back to 1947. Is there no UFO bit in
indymedia? Apparenlty eggy shaped craft and weird light dominate the files.
