BBC staff have always been very Left-wing, but they used to avoid letting it show. That all changed in 2014, first with climate change, then trans, then anything 'Right-wing'. It's been a disaster, says Iain Macwhirter.

Peace camp at Bofors arms factories, Sweden

category international | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Sunday April 15, 2007 21:48author by Disarm07 - Mischief - for a nuclear free and demilitarised world Report this post to the editors

Come to Karlskoga on June 14-19, 2007

Sweden exports more arms per capita than any other nation in the world. Join our summer camp at the arms factories in Karlskoga, Sweden, on June 14-19, 2007. Several days of workshops and seminars, one day of nonviolent civil disobedience such as sit-ins, die-ins, blockades etc.

Peace camp in Karlskoga, Sweden!

The Swedish arms exports to wars are greater than ever... but so is the resistance! This summer we'll gather by and inside the arms factories and change reality!

On June 14-19, 2007, the network Mischief (Sw: "Ofog") - for a demilitarised and nuclear-free world - invites you to a peace camp in the town of Karlskoga. This will be a week crammed with workshops, civil disobedience, celebration, music and seminaries. Check our website www.ofog.org/disarm07 or mail us directly to receive English updates.

Your contribution is needed!

Obviously the camp will be greatly enriched by non-Swedish speakers and guests from foreign counties. Everything from comments and ideas, information and research material to direct participation in planning and carrying out the activities of the camp is welcome. Contact us to help make this camp a prominent peace happening in Sweden. Together we can change this reality!

(Mischief is a national Swedish network centered in Gothenburg. Its activists have since February 2002 been joining blockades and manifestations in Faslane, Coulport, Aldermaston, Menwith Hill in Great Britain, in Shape and Kleine Brogel in Belgium, railway blockades in Germany and other smaller actions.

Platform for the campaign Disarm07 (which all participants must adher to)

Sweden today exports arms to war and dictatorships. The peace camp in Karlskoga gathers groups and individuals who wish to cease their participation in this. The Disarm07 campaign is non-profit and politically and religiously independent. We strive to work openly and nonviolently.

Out parliamentarians respect neither the arms exports regulations from the government or the collective views of their own parties. The Swedish arms exports contribute to violations of international law. We believe everyone is ultimately responsible for their own actions. We cannot abdicate this to other persons or institutions. We therefore have an obligation to protest injustice and to intervene when wrongs are committed in our name.

This means we use different methods, such as writing articles, carrying out manifestations, convening open meetings and doing nonviolent civil disobedience. Civil disobedience to us means physical intervention in an emergency, even if it may challenge authority and law. We always act openly and without physical or verbal violence.

We strive to work in a non-hierarchical way and actively resist different types of discrimination.
