SDLP Youth Highlight 'Cavalcade' Half-Bus Hypocrisy

category derry | miscellaneous | press release author Monday January 21, 2008 16:04author by sdlpyouth - SDLP Youth Report this post to the editors

SDLP Youth spokesperson Peter Armstrong this morning led a demo in Dungiven to highlight the lack of delivery by Sinn Fein Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy MP.

"SDLP Youth were in Dungiven this morning as Sinn Fein's PR "cavalcade" of a full and empty bus passed through on its way to Stormont. We were pleased to highlight the fact that infrastructure minister Conor Murphy has already allowed the Dungiven by-pass to slip by 3 years from 2015 to 2018. On top of this, there is still stalemate on the rail link with no money secured in the budget to provide any high-quality service. Nobody expects Conor Murphy to finish the rail upgrade or to lay the tarmac on the new road within months of entering office, but the public certainly expects more than we are getting. The road will now take longer under Conor Murphy than under the direct rule Ministers and is incredible that he is committing no money to improve the rail line."

"While it is perplexing that Sinn Fein have to lobby their own Minister to rectify his stalemate and slippage, SDLP Youth will keep up the pressure on Conor Murphy, Martin McGuinness and all the other Ministers to ensure that Ministers act up for Derry and the Northwest."

I noticed that there were a quite a few Derry Shinners who couldn't even be bothered to turn up for Martina's little PR stunt. They looked like a group of tourists on the steps of Stormont.

The Deputy First Minster was in quite a quandary. What could he do to divert attention away from the dismal performance of his party?
Those wretched Class room assistants were giving us a bad name and Maggie Thatcher is one hell of a bad name to call anyone.
Conor can't be thinking about building new roads when he has to dig himself out of a hole. What with Gerry digging himself out of the same hole and that after after getting out of a similar hole in the Markets.
We're in a whole lot of holes, he lamented.
"I have a Cunning Plan," announced Martina. "Let's have a Stand up for Derry Cavalcade to Stormont to Protest about things it's our job to sort out in the first place. That way people will think it's not us doing our jobs, but others not doing our jobs."
"You mean blame the SDLP for not doing our jobs?" Said a dumbfounded Deputy First Minster.
"Well we're hardly going to protest against ourselves, are we?" Said Martina.
"Great Idea, Martina, Watch out for pot-holes on the Way."

Hi WT !

That's a good "cunning plan" , but it needs that something extra...

....what about an abbreviated monkier ? Something that rolls easily of the tongue - like - 'The TUAS Strategy ' (ie 'Temporarily Unable to ASsume Responsibility') ?
(Fade out to Wolf Whistle)

Works for me !

The SDLP should look at themselves and ask why are Sinn Feign leaving them trailing in their wake. They have a brass neck slagging off the shinners about the small turn out for their 'cavalcade of deceit' when they themselves could only muster half a dozen for a counter demo.
We might have peace, thank God, but the price we have to pay for that peace is devious politicians out to further their own careers.
When are the People of Derry, Belfast and the rest of the Country going to stand up for themselves and start to see through the charades?

Sinn Fein do something about highlighting the obvious problems of Derry and the best the SDLP can do is attack them. Negative campaigning is a very dangerous tactic - Durkan and the SDLP leaders had the good sense to receive the cavalcade when they reached Stormont - whoever thought this was a clever way to have a go at Sinn Fein should have thought of the damage they were doing to the SDLP in Derry where a seat hangs in the balance.

As I said this was a CAVALCADE OF DECEIT and the majority of Derry people know this. Sinn Feign minsters are in a position to sort Derry's problems out and what do they do they throw up a SMOKE SCREEN to cover their own shortcomings.
Why hasn't the SDLP come out and publicly supported the class room assistants on the picket lines? If the shoe was on the other foot, then the shinners would have been sent out in force with a figurehead or two leading the way. Sinn Feign are leaving the SDLP trailing in their wake because they are far to cute.

I've just found out that the SDLP minsters came out to meet the cavalcade at Stormont. Martina just needed 150 with nothing better to do shinners to hammer the final nail into Durken's political coffin.
By coming out as they did the SDLP proved that they have no bottle by getting drawn into a stunt.

Don't worry about Mark, Sinn Fein will take him in and he won't even notice the difference.
Sure look what they did for Mary Lou and she's as snug as a bug in a rug, as me ole Ma used to say.
