From the mountains of Alska to the deserts of Iraq

The unembedded journalist and author of 'Beyond the Green Zone' gives a fascinating account of his personal journey from childhood in Texas, being a mountain guide in Alaska and on to reporting war in Iraq.

Motivated by the deafening silence in mainstream US media about the daily reality of war for Iraqis, Jamail decided to go and find out for himself what was happening. The daily reports he sent back to a group of friends gradually began to attract attention. In his own words:
