Iran: Mansour Osanloo Brought To Court Instead Of To Hospital.

category international | worker & community struggles and protests | other press author Friday July 11, 2008 14:27author by pat c Report this post to the editors

The Iranian Regime continues its persecution of trade unionists. Mansour Osanloo was brought to court instead of hospital.

Mansour Osanloo, the jailed President of the Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs (Vahed) Bus Company was taken to the Intelligence Court Branch 2 this morning to be arraigned, instead of being taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

According to Dastranj labor website, this sudden summons of this labor activist took place when he was supposed to receive continued medical care this morning at Labafinejad Hospital.

The sudden transfer of Mansour to the Intelligence Court for arraignment took place in connection with the strike of Vahed Syndicate workers in the winter of 2005, for which he was charged with disturbing national security, and is presently serving time for this single charge.

According to Parvaneh Osanloo, who just a few hours ago spoke with her spouse by telephone, the Intelligence COurt arraigned the Head of the Vahed Syndicate on those very same charges, without ever indicating exactly what criminal act he had commited.

One year after his arrest, Mansour remains in prison, here is a statement by his union. Full text at the link.

Mansour Osanloo, President of the Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs (Vahed) Bus Company was travelling home when he was captured by plainclothes agents. His family and the Vahed Syndicate inquired and after several days of no news, the spokesperson for the judiciary announced that he was in Evin prison. One year has passed and despite the repeated appeals of the family and attorneys of Mansour, and despite eye and heart conditions, he remains in prison.

The Vahed Syndicate condemns the summons and arraignment of Mr. Osanloo without an attorney present, and the capture of Mr. Gholamreza Gholamhosseini, and demands the release of the abovementioned. We appeal to all labor organizations, to form a truth-seeking committee to pursue these cases, to demand official recognition of The Vahed Syndicate, to seek reinstatement of the sacked workers, as well as to demand the freedom of imprisoned workers who are jailed for defending workers rights.

With hopes to expand peace and justice throughout the world,

The Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs (Vahed) Bus Company

Here is information regarding anotherVahed member who has been arrested. Full text at linkl.

While it has been almost one week since the capture of Gholamreza Gholamhosseini, a member of the Vahed Syndicate, and his transfer to the Evin prison, the reason for his arrest still has not been disclosed. According to Dastranj news site, Mr. Reza Shahabi, a member of the Vahed Syndicate Board of Directors, announced "the responsible authorities are still not willing to make any official explanations about the reason for the arrest."

Gholamreza, one of the Vahed Company suspended drivers was arrested by the military when he tried to speak to the Mayor and the CEO of the Vahed Bus Company about the lack of enforcement of the judiciary branch's order to reinstate him to his job. While the judiciary was unaware of the reason for the arrest of Gholamreza, it is alleged that Gholamreza told his friends the day after his arrest during his transfer to Evin prison that Judge Haddad had personally issued a warrant for his arrest based on "disturbing public order."
