Hunt followers attempt to hide cruelty
10 December 2008

Witness the lengths to which followers of the Ward Union hunt will go to hide the suffering caused to deer during their cruel hunt.

Our short film includes November 2008 scenes in which hunt monitors from the Irish Council Against Blood Sports are verbally abused and harassed on public roads. Also shown is the vehicle of a hunt follower driving slowly in the middle of a road in an attempt to interfere with the monitoring and filming of the hunt.

The film ends with a montage of footage captured by ICABS over the past few hunt seasons. The footage shows terrified deer being chased by the hounds, cornered, bitten and dragged head-first to the ground.

All footage was filmed during Ward Union hunts in County Meath by Irish Council Against Blood Sports monitors.

Please respond to our ongoing action alert. Ask Minister Gormley to stop licensing this cruel hunt and to fulfil his party's pre-election promise that they would end blood sports when they got into government.

Email "Stop Licensing the Ward Union" to Environment Minister John Gormley (Green Party) to minister@environ.ie

why was the clip censored? (pixelated)

waht censorship do you refer to? (No idea what pixelated means!)

The day I meet a sheep/cattle farmer who is happy to have his sheep or cattle worried by dogs, then manhandle them back into thier fields, is the day I will agree that this is not cruel to the farmed, domesticated animals so clearly under attack.

Put simply, it stresses them, to the point where they can and do die - hence laws and PSAs regarding roaming dogs.

THIS "SPORT" IS NOTHING MORE THAN A LEGALISED VERSION OF SHEEP/CATTLE WORRYING!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is there no logic applied by our successive governments????

Why are people so worried about deer hunted on private land a few times a year by farmers and land owners. People die alone on the streets of Dublin and our towns and cities all the time. Children are abused and hungry in many homes around the country. I don't see the do gooders "observing" outside the homes of unfit parents or watching outside casulty departments to ensure sick people are treated humanely by the HSE. People hunting, so what? Speeding and drunk drivers kill and maim hundreds of people every year so why don't obsrvers hang around pubs every night to make sure no one drives drunk? The truth is hunting is a custom that predates recorded history while those that care so much for the stags don't like people. Sad bitter little people with damn all friends, sane ones at least, think they can dicate what people do on their own land. Land which feeds the nation and provides direct and indirect emplyment for thousands. Get a life. Make some human friends and kop on.

"Why are people so worried about deer hunted on private land a few times a year by farmers and land owners. People die alone on the streets of Dublin and our towns and cities all the time. Children are abused and hungry in many homes around the country. "

I am so sick of this stupid argument
It goes something like:

"you people are so awful because you are so worried about
(insert animal injustice)
wheras you don't care about
(insert human injustice)"

The false assumption is that you don't actually care about those issues too
The implication of this false assumption being that you are therefore somehow ethically suspect.

Apart from the false assumption and the notion that caring about animal welfare somehow precludes also caring about human welfare (ludicrous!!), that's called "Ad Hominem" and is a logical Fallacy.

For the UMPTEENTH TIME, Animal rights and human rights are BOTH important and supporting one does NOT preclude supporting the other. Nor are they somehow in competition. You cannot automatically assume animal rights supporters do not also support human rights too. In fact in my experience, animal rights activists tend to be the kind of people who are sensitive to injustices of any kind and inclined not to sit around when they see them.

Have any of you people ever considered that in order to deal properly with issues, you might have to discuss and deal with them seperately?

I get really annoyed when idiots dredge up this discredited illogical crap for the umpteenth time on animal rights thread.

My response is, If YOU care so much about the valid human issues you brought up then instead of just using them as an excuse to have a go at animal rights people, why don't you start another thread or threads dealing with those issues. This is the wrong thread to do it on.

I suspect that you won't bother though. Because more often than not, hecklers like you really don't care about those issues either, except as a way to try and put down other people who actually do care about something. So if you've nothing better to do, please go back under the rock you crawled out from under unless you actually want to partake in society in a more active and constructive fashion.

I'd like to add, for the benefit of Chris Murphy, that this hunt does NOT TAKE PLACE ON PRIVATE LAND. It takes place on public roads, on motorways and in primary school playgrounds, amongst other places. hence the stag who was harried in front oof a car last friday week.
