Wednesday January 21, 2009 21:33 by Joe Moore - Cork Anti Racism Network mapuche at eircom dot net 087-2994796
The Cork Anti Racist Network will launch a campaign for civil rights for asylum seekers at a public meeting on Monday 2nd February at 8.00pm in the Victoria Hotel, Patrick St. Cork. Do you know that, in Ireland, asylum seekers are denied the right to work. Instead they are given €19.10 per week to live on. Many are fully qualified professionals, who want to work, and would be assets to society, and add value to the economy. |

Dear Joe,
i am a resident in St Patricks accommodation (detaintion) Centre in Monaghan. There is so much suffering and violation of asylum seekers human rights. I have been involved for a while in attempt to improve the situation mainly for the kids the most vunriable victims but unfortunately nothing has changed. The numbers of the children who come to the dining room is always low and there was no variaties of options or healthy meals so i requsted a dietation to come and check but the managment refuse as well i request a copy of the menu's but they refused again. This is just and example of what is going on.
Dear Joe,
We all know and respect the fact that Ireland is going through a tough economic era but this shouldn't be used as and excuse to create more suffering for the people who came to claim asylum here. We can acheive more positive results if the goverment a dopted the policy of a fair and quick asylum process to protect whom in need of protection and to deport the others. At the same time who ever come to claim asylum should be accommodated within the community and let him has the access of full education because this at the end will means better integration.
As well i call for the abolish of Direct Provision System and i suggest in order to acheive this goal to follow the next steps:
1) Create a body representing all asylum seekers from whole over Ireland. We can highlight through it the tragedies and the violations in every single accommodation centre.
2) We have to try to send the message to all the non-govermental organistions and human rights activist in every city and town.
3) We approach all the opposition parties and address this issue with them. Also we had to bring to their attention by abolishing this system we don't want to add more financial pressure to the economy. In reality this might be more saving as the cost of the accommodation centres are higher than the other alternatives.
4) At the end we should have the confidence on ourselves that we can acheive our sensiable goal.
I would be glad if this campaign can reach us in St. Patricks Accommodation centre in Monaghan rather sooner than later
hello ayman
i would like to ask you if direct provision was stopped
1. what about the people working in the direct provision system ?
(in my opinion ..they would need social welfare which is more cost to government)
2.there must be thousands of "asylum seekers" getting 19 euro a week so if they lived in the comunity and had no job how would they survive and pay rent /bills/ esb?
(in my opinion...they would claim jobseekers and rent allowance which would cost the government more)
3.do you think more or less "asylum seekers" would come to ireland ?
(in my opinion...lots more would come which would cost the government more)
iam not trying to be nasty to you but ireland is in a really bad financial mess ...and the recent case of the nigerian lady called pamela who has been caught telling lies has cost the state over 2 million euro !!!
this money would keep a hospital ward open ...
i agree not all asylum seekers are telling lies and they should be helped after a full explanation how ireland was the final destination and why they passed through safe EU countries first
i look forward to your reply...
THIS IS A LINK ON NATURALISATION - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/moving-cou...ation
If you have shown you have been of good working character for so many years irrespective of other issues
Does that mean we can de-naturalise Cowen&Co for negligence?
Start by taking Micky Martin's passport away. He'll get a replacement from Israel handy enough.Services to the state etc.
Dermot Ahern should get a bishoprick in Rome handy for his blasphemy act.
Willy O'D can double job on the tabloid smear campaigns when he's not selling handguns to the kids in limerick with his posings for photo-ops.They'll be grand, and besides, its nearly time they tried their own medicinal emigration.
