Poem by Sarah Clancy and poems and essay by Kinga Cybulska

Poem by Sarah Clancy and three poems and essay by Kinga Cybulska published on Over The Edge site

Sarah Clancy's poem 'Hippy a job' is published here
http://overtheedgeliteraryevents.blogspot.com/2009/08/p....html

Sarah Clancy is 36 and from Salthill in Galway. She has travelled and worked in many countries and likes writing poetry as a way of revisiting the situations she encountered abroad and at home. Despite the chequered career path described in the poem below she now works for Amnesty International and so spends more time composing letters to errant government officials than writing poems.

Kinga Cybulska's poems 'Warsaw', 'Dreams and Awakenings' and 'Limbo' are published here alongside her short essay about her experiences in Galway.

Kinga Elwira Cybulska is from Lublin, Poland. In 2006 she received her MA in Polish language and literature at Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). Her work was published in the anthology: Galway city of strangers, Edited by M. O’Loughlin. In 2008 she participated in the Polish Poetry Evening (organized by Over The Edge). She also attended a couple of Kevin Higgins's poetry workshops at Galway Arts Centre. Currently she is involved in writing for the Polish internet website. The main area of interests includes: "the stream of consciousness", slightly darker sides of a human nature, angelology and various kinds of feminism. Some poems of Kinga's will feature in an anthology of poetry by immigrants to Ireland, co-edited by Eva Burke, which will be published next year by Dedalus Press.

Didn't one of the organisers of Over the Edge say in a letter to a Galway paper recently that they'd rather have dealings with the Salthill Airshow than the Galway Alliance Against War, who have been present many times at Shannon Airport demonstrating, when the over the Edge mob have been visibly absent? This, then, smacks of hypocrisy. Where did they get the photo from? And is there just a touch of sarcasm in the remarks about Sarah Clancy - a woman with a hundred times the courage of anyone in OTE? Let no one be fooled by the photo: it shouldn't have been given for use by people who attacked committed demonstrators in print and who wouldn't be seen next or near Shannon or any other demo.

The biographical details and photo were supplied by Sarah Clancy herself.

Over The Edge, as an organisation, has never made any comment whatsoever about Galway Alliance Against War.

The co-organisers of Over The Edge are though, as private individuals, entitled to comment on the tactics of Galway Alliance Against War.

Over The Edge has always made its platforms available to writers of every political viewpoint. John Throne, the founder of the Militant Tendency in Ireland (precursor to the Socialist Party) was a Featured Reader at an Over The Edge: Open Reading in September 2006. He read from his novel, 'The Donegal Woman', to a very large crowd. We have also had a number of members (and former members) of the Socialist Workers Party, who also happen to be writers, be Featured Readers at our events.

This will continue to be our policy.

Unlike some, we do not believe in censorship or in suppressing political viewpoints we may happen to disagree with.

Anyone is welcome to come along and participate in our events, the only qualification being that they must also be prepared to listen respectfully to what the other participating writers have to say.

Anyone interested in reading a poem or extract from a story at the upcoming Over The Edge: Open Reading in Galway City Library next Thursday, August 27th, should try and get there by the 6.30pm start time and give their name to Kevin Higgins, who will be compiling the list for the open-mic.
