Short photo story from the protest. A crowd of about 20 gathered at the Daíl to protest the Turkish Government's banning of the Kurdish DTP party and essentially disenfranchising millions of Kurds. The DTP has 22 Members of Parliament. This new ban is seen by many Kurds as an attempt to marginalise them further from mainstream politics. |

Jump To Comment: 1Thanks for the photos. This was an important protest about the Turkish repression of the Kurds and the disenfranchisement of 2.5 million Kurds who voted for this party during the last election -- the only party representing Kurdish aspirations for self-determination.
On this picket there was only one Irish person and a total of two non-Kurds. The previous one, about death sentences against Kurds in Iran, was also only attended by two non-Kurds.
These are desperate but also very important struggles in areas of the world that are strategic in military/political terms but also in terms of oil and water. It is important that they draw on wider support from Irish activists.
