Adam Sisman's new biography of Asa Briggs is an unintentional revelation, says Professor James Alexander. It shows how the feted historian was an overrated time-server who embodied everything wrong with the modern age.

Public Protest Against The Cutbacks

category dublin | anti-capitalism | event notice author Tuesday January 26, 2010 23:09author by éirígí PRO - éirígíauthor email info at eirigi dot org Report this post to the editors

The only people that are going to stand up for working class communities are those communities themselves. Don't wait for someone else to do it. Join the protests against the cutbacks.

éirígí DSC will be holding a public protest against the recent cutbacks on Saturday Jan 30th @ 12pm at the Kylemore Roundabout , Ballyfermot.

For areas with unemployment and lots of children , like Ballyfermot , the budget is nothing short of a disaster. The Jobseekers cut alone will suck at least 30,000 euros cash every week out of our community and then there are all the other cuts to social welfare payments - Child Benefit, One Parent Family Payment, Cares Allowance, Disability Allowance etc - all of which has dramatically reduced the combined income of the people of Ballyfermot.

Come and join us to let this government know we will be fighting back.

No To Cutbacks !
It's Time To Fight Back !

fair play to Eirigi for holding this protest against the cut backs, its about time political parties started leading the people in resistance to this government, and the establishment in the 'dail' and their cut throat right wing agenda.

community services who provide vitial Frontline services to people across this country have had their funding slashed, while banks who are raping people through exploiting private debt get bailed out at the expense of the tax payer, and by cutting welfare, not only to the unemployed but also to the blind and disabled.

what makes it worse is that none of our so called opposition parties are doing anything to stop it.

fair play to Eirigi for taking to the streets, i see from their site they also held one in Clondalkin. are there plans for any more?

water charges will be the final insult and i hope people will join with Eirigi and people before profit and the sp in opposing them as they seem to form the real opposition in this state.

Hi Community Worker !
It's great at last to see other groups take to the streets in support of the workers in the Community Sector - you asked about the Clondalkin area in your post ; updates re that particular area can be read at the 'Related Link' below.
Thanks!
Sharon.

Hi again ,Community Worker !
There is some talks on-going at the moment by CDP's / trade unions about organising a street protest either in Dublin city centre or in Clondalkin again (outside Mr John Curran's office) but , as official notice re the appeals decision is still only filtering through to the CDP's concerned (as that decision was only delivered on Friday 29 January 2010) nothing definite has been arranged as yet.
In relation to the 'éirígí' group , I have no idea what , if anything, they have planned as they didn't attend any of the Clondalkin protests and might possibly prefer , for some reason , to 'do their own thing' in that area regarding this issue ?
Thanks!
Sharon.

hello Sharon and Community Worker.

eirigi members have attended all cdp protests both local and national organised by other political parties, cdps and trade unions.

eirigi are also active organising smaller, localised protests to keep the issue very much in the public domain.

eirigi are also actively visiting cdps and community workers to ascertain what is actually happening on the ground as these savage cuts are wheeled out and communicating this information to other groups and the public as part of this campaign.

todays protest received a great response from passing motorists and pedestrians

following on from todays Kylemore Roundabout protest eirigi will have another protest next saturday 6th feb in Inchicore on Tyreconnel Rd outside Bank of Ireland at 12pm.all are welcome, the more that attend the clearer the message.

more protests to follow.........

Hi Damien !
"eirigi members have attended all cdp protests both local and national organised by other political parties, cdps and trade unions."
No , Damien , not the case , unfortunately. Even according to their own website , that's not the true position. Eirigi's absence was noticed from every CDP/JI/CE-organised picket in Clondalkin Village over a two-month period. RSF ,PBP and , on one occasion , PSF, were present , but eirigi were no-shows. A pity , really , as we could have done with all the help we could have got.
Next time , perhaps ?

"eirigi are also active organising smaller, localised protests to keep the issue very much in the public domain."
They held one protest in North Clondalkin themselves, but avoided the (practically) weekly protests in the Village , for some reason best known to themselves.

"eirigi are also actively visiting cdps and community workers to ascertain what is actually happening on the ground as these savage cuts are wheeled out and communicating this information to other groups and the public as part of this campaign."
What CDP's have they 'visited' , Damien ? None that I know of in this area, and I have good contacts in all the Dublin Projects.

"todays protest received a great response from passing motorists and pedestrians"
Good to hear that.

"following on from todays Kylemore Roundabout protest eirigi will have another protest next saturday 6th feb in Inchicore on Tyreconnel Rd outside Bank of Ireland at 12pm.all are welcome, the more that attend the clearer the message."
Exactly. That goes for the Clondalkin protests , too.
Thanks!
Sharon.
