President McAleese addresses right wing Catholic Organisation

category international | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday August 24, 2010 13:05author by Brendan Butler Report this post to the editors

President McAleese addresses Communione e Liberazione

Last Sunday the President of Ireland , Mary Mc Aleese, was in Italy to address an arch conservative and right wing Italian Catholic powerful organisation called 'Communione e Liberazione' ( Communion and Liberation )
The question must be asked who was she representing at this prestigious event attended by the right wing Berlusconi Government and by mainly arch conservative catholic churchmen.
Was she acting on her own initiative , had she got permission from the Irish Govenment to address this most divisive organisation and was she being used by this organisation to give it further international credibility.

On Sunday night last ,22nd August 2010 , President Mc Aleese addressed the annual gathering of an Italian right wing and archconservative catholic Organisation in Rimini, Italy and was the first guest speaker to open the event. While the theme of her address of 'The forces which change history are those which change the hearts of men' was a wideranging one the issue is whether the President of Ireland's presence at this event gave further international credibility to this Italian organisation which was described by author journalist Gordon Urquhart as 'one of the mysterious and powerful sects in the catholic Church' in his book 'The Pope's Armada. The present Pope uses its members to comprise his household and together with Opus Dei and The legionnaires of Christ the form the vanguard of the new Papal absolutist obedient adherents.
These organisations have acquired vast wealth from the their rich adherents which in the case of Communione e Liberazione is displayed every year at Rimini.
Mary Mc Aleese ,the president of Ireland is not representing the new multi cultural and multi religious make-up of the Irish people by being wined and dined by an Italian right wing catholic organisation and it shows poor judegement on her part.
Just as the Legionnaires of Christ have been exposed as an organisation whose founder abused not only his seminarians but his own sons born out of affairs with vulnerable women I hope that this vist by President Mc Aleese to another like minded organisation in the catholic Church won't come back to haunt her .

Just to clarify...putting CL, Opus Dei and the Legionaries of Christ in the same group is bit wide of the mark. Benedict removed the founder of the Legionaries, Maciel Maciel, shortly after he became Pope. In fact he was swift to do so. John Paul 11 dithered on this issue: Benedict was decisive against some strong Curial voices. CL has no links with either Opus Dei or the Legionaries. So, in the name of balanced reporting, it's only fair to do a little more research. I am not a memebr of any of the above organsations..but I favour balanced argumentation...otherwise you are left open to sensationalism. Not good for the Left!

Beware of mixed up nomenclature. If right-wing simply means 'anything I don't fancy' then it can lead/mislead to a lot of exclusions from your worldview and potential cultural experience. People might end up like that sect known as the Exclusive Brethren which is so darn exclusive that nobody wants to join it.

I had an occasion to meet a man who was on a hunger strike outside the GPO. He was passionate about his cause, yes he numbered one of those many children sexually abused by members of the Catholic Church and who had spent time in the like of Artane and so many others. These people are much neglected today for the pains they have suffered at the hands of conniving, bully, criminal men and those who facilitated these criminals. I asked him about the role of the Catholic Church now and said that due to the shrinkage in same we were perhaps losing out. He was not having any of this and said that the Catholic Church had engaged in sanitization work and if you look beneath the surface in housing, care, education etc. you will find the tentacles of the Catholic Church.

This site received little input. Why? Now we face an election. It is time to review the performance of the retiring President in the light of those going forward. Have we any views about her connection to the Catholic Church.

As the writer of the posting says:

Maybe a spokeswo/man for the abused could be induced to run for the presidency?

I doubt they would get in, but it might drag the issue back out from under the damage-limitation carpet of pr and judicial obfuscation.

Ruffle the clerical skirts. Macaleese is just another ff insider with a semi-detached public persona to elevate her 'above politics'. Another pd social liberal/economic neo-con jumping through the hoops and dripping a few sanctimonious platitudes to the peasants when cued.
Heres one i prepared earlier

Protocol

Her elegance
The president
Waxed eloquent
Remarking the irony of the appellation
Fatima mansions
On this urban desert
Cast concrete concentration
Incarcerating our economic-untouchable encorporation
All along the banks
Of that grand canal

Expressed her fervent solidarity
And committment
Reworking the current profundity
That rising tides can fail to float
Beached and long-neglected boats

Stretching and turning the metaphor
With lunar gravity
She cast to the shore of the public ear
The dangled gem
That the ebb frees
Even fewer

Then
Damp kerchief in crocodile bag
She bid her driver quench his fag
And leaving her subjects nodding consent
She
The peoples president
Flapped the cape and off she went
To her own vice-regal tenement

I really like the verse or maybe this is Rap .... either way I like the Protocol

What scares me about postings like this is the silence especially when the target is the ordinary people on the Island of Ireland. It is disturbing when the President of this country shows such allegiance to a right wing Catholic Church elitist organisation - we need to re-iterate what was said back in August 2010 as follows: AND examine it in the context of Ireland today and as Opus (as distinct from Opus Dei) quite rightly said the fear is apparent that certain people do not want the 'sexua abuse issue' to be re-introduced onto the Agenda. ..................

'These organisations have acquired vast wealth from the their rich adherents which in the case of Communione e Liberazione is displayed every year at Rimini. Mary Mc Aleese, the president of Ireland is not representing the new multi cultural and multi religious make-up of the Irish people by being wined and dined by an Italian right wing catholic organisation and it shows poor judgment on her part' ................

Ireland today appears to be non sectarian but the question is whether this is only a skin deep perception with one law for those called the 'Established Classes' and another for the ordinary riff raff and in particular those who make up the vulnerable layer of our society. The book by Urquart - the Pope's Armada sounds like an interesting book to read.

Imagine one is in a time warp back in the 1933 at a FF Ard Fheis .... slightly paranoid about the power of Secret Societies. The debate recorded the concern about the influence of Knights of Columbanus:

Mr. J.C. 'contended that the Knights of Columbanus and the Freemasons were a menace to the State...he had personally been affected by the machinations of the Knights. Patronage in the Courts was bestowed on the Knights. Not one brief had been given by the AG except to the Knights of Columbanus and there was not one of those Knights to whom he gave patronage who HAD NOT BEEN AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE MOVEMENT FROM 1916-1923'

De Valera denied this but Mr. J.C. stated it was a FACT.

I go back to the man on hungerstrike outside the GPO and the word 'Sanitized'. People need to ask questions about allegiances placed in the Professions, most particularly medicine, law and in certain political parties and the real linkages to the Catholic Church. We like to believe that we are now non sectarian and that it would never be possible for the like of the former Archbishop McQuaid and his austerity programme of Catholicism to influence the governance of Ireland.

Charities are big business these days and yet the infiltration into people with vulnerabilities are mainly controlled by Patrons whose allegiances may be questionable. Do we really have transparency? Opus Dei provide residence homes for young students at our leading Universities - could this be opportunism or maybe I am cynical.

Peter. You are anti-Church and fail to see how much the Church has contributed to Ireland and that these affiliations such as Opus Dei and the Knights of Columbanus only resemble the like of the Free Masons to the English and in the global context.

To say that there has been an entry followed by an exit and sanitization programme by the church into areas such as Health, Education, Care via social services is a harsh statement of non fact.

The Church is under attack on all sides and the time for change is here - we only need to look at Ruairi Quinn Minister for Education and the radical changes he plans to make in de-position the Catholic Church from powers of control in our schools. Next it will be time to tackle Maynooth College, All Hallows and those in third level but strongly affiliated to the Catholic Church. Don't forget former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was the brain child of All Hallows - and Biffo a top pupil at Roscrea so it cannot be that bad.

Gordon Urquhart wrote some years ago on the power of Opus Dei throughout the world. Urquhart went on to say that these people are amongst us like predators. They will ask you to join and then they will groom. McAleese is famous for playing both sides of the divide but sources inform us that she is a serious player from within the Catholic hierarchy. Sources in Rome who have been trying to get the truth on behalf of children who have been abused there for the past 50 years by members of the clergy will tell you on the street openly that Opus Dei have paid off some people to keep their mouths shut. In Ireland we seem to be walking around with our eyes wide open to the fact that Opus Dei is alive and well in certain schools and university campuses and its HQ in Lismullin, Tara, Co. Meath.

Recently, one retired GP over 55 years working, informed me that Opus Dei arranges employment for its loyal members and also members in the present day fast weekly and it is acceptable to self harm (flagellation) in their name. O yes, the Bogey man has not left the stage yet.

Why and how is it acceptable for people to use the Church as a haven of retreat and contacts to inure them from sins e.g. abuse that is quite rightly a criminal offence in the eyes of the law of the land. Yet this same 'sin' can be concealed by an omerta based organisation with the added dimension of 'Absolution' and free to engage in the 'sin' again and yet again seek absolution.

Visibility within the cult is no doubt recognised and absolvded but to the outside world exposure and vulnerability dictate. Why is this acceptable? Why is it so difficult for the DPP to put cases forward for hearing before the Judiciary?

First thing to remember is that the gardai were the ones who brought these kids back if they escaped, who were instrumental in their prosecutions and incarceration, as were the judiciary and medical and legal professions; if not actually complicit by deed, certainly by silence. Another case of 'just obeying orders' syndrome.
Belgium and other countries have shown that the networks of paedophiles include the higher echelons of judicial, police, professional and political classes. The upper classes are better practitioners of solidarity than us, thats how they get upper.
Thats not to ignore that child abuse happens in ALL corners of societies, not least within families.

Certainly some of the sentences(I'd say many)handed down for rapists of various stripe indicate an attitude that it is more of a misdemeanour than a serious crime. Vagrancy is more likely to draw venom from the bench, or possession of a joint. The law reflects the class nature of our 'democracy', so a 'respectable' citizen from a 'good' background will walk, while the wrong adress prevents access to employment, and shortens your chances of getting leniency if you decide to rob from the white collar robbers.
And then you have to stir in a sack of concentrated, patriarchal, recieved-cultural-presumptions to sour the mix and keep it fermenting. Progress is slow. But the domes of silence are cracking. When the basic premises of a society are dog-eat-dog competitive the weak(childern)will tend to be more exposed than in a more rationally governed operation. The market is just the fence to our kleptocratic elites. It washes their hands and keeps the stains at a polite distance. Like us commoners when the royals call. Now there's an incestuous 'firm'.
