UN Resolution lead by France The UN tonight has just passed a resolution on a no-fly zone over Libya. The resolution was pushed by France and there were 10 votes in favour and five abstentions. The Libyan revolution has been ongoing for a few weeks and in the early stages the rebels had a lot of successes and took a number of major towns. However Gaddafi hasn't been so easy to remove and has clearly waged a careful campaign of assessing his forces and then moving firmly but relatively slowly against the resistance. At this point the last strong hold appears to be Benghazi and indeed events in Libya have been off the global media radar in the last week or so as the disaster took promince. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3What is taking place in Libya is, or rather should be a matter for the Libyan people alone. The suggestion that Washington or Brussels have any humanitarian concern is absurd. Their concern is solely the natural resources of the country. The Libyans should be left to decide their own future. A no-fly zone would be a very good idea in Afghanistan in order protect Afghans from the very same states who are engaging in such nauseating hypocrisy via the so called ‘United Nations’ to express their ‘concern’ for the welfare of the Libyan population.
The UN Charter guarantees the soveringty of all nations and states that no interference will be made in internal disputes. This is clearly an internal dispute. There can be no legal justification for the actions of the Western nations and their Arab proxies in waging this aggressive war.
Article 19 of resolution 1973 places an embargo on the importation of weapons into Libya and yet the Western nations and the arab puppets are proposing to import weapons to supply the Libyans they support.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada said the objective of this operation is regime change. This is not a humanitarian mission, it is just an extension of the US/NATO military agenda; Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Pakistan and now Libya.
And what about when the dictation is coming from a corporate coalition of the arms industry and the oil multinationals masquerading under the 'democratic' flags of Britannia, France, and the Project for a New American Century?Using NATO as the operating arm for a totalitarian corraling of global resources for the neo-colonial clubbers?
I'd give the dictator argument some credence if they didn't have that qualification whereby 'our sonofabitch' dictators get the weapons and training to supress their populations, but the awkward bastards who want to control their own resources for the benefit of THEIR peoples get the ultimatums and the moral outrage.
Double-think, Orwell labelled it, articulated through Newspeak.
Dystopia here we come! And, as usual, under the label of 'democracy'. I think it was Huey Long said 'When fascism comes to America it wont be called fascism'.
All that will happen once they shift Gadafy is they will pick a co-operative replacement to ensure the Chinese dont get near the oil. I can see the day coming when they will sell an attack on China because of its 'dirty energy policy', even as they shut them off from their attempts to clean up their coal-based industry. They've been trying to provoke them into an excuse for a while. I wont regret Gadafy's exit. But neither will I be celebrating it.
