Bankers Bonuses and DPP

category international | crime and justice | opinion/analysis author Tuesday April 19, 2011 21:26author by Brian Flannery - Justice Report this post to the editors

Is it blatant corruption or constructive?

Carpe Diem

Save the Day

It is only people who can make a change.

Since 2008 Irish Society has been suppressed with the bailouts, the cover-ups, the bankers, and the ordinary taxpayer who literally has to pay for the shit that these people have left behind. We have had Joe Higgins, Richard Boyd-Barrett and the contingent on programme after programme for almost three years trying to seek answers and getting nowhere. I now want to ask the question - where is the DPP in relation to the insurmountable volume of fraud inquiries and files that have been passed over since last December by the Fraud Squad at Harcourt Square.

Last December, before Fachtna Murphy stood down as Garda Commissioner he assured the Irish public on radio and TV that there would people before the courts in the New Year. Not so - Fachtna - I hope you are enjoying your large pension. Today I am reading in all papers about the conference of Gardai Sergeants and Inspectors that now they have finally admitted that the load work in relation to the banking mess and the fraud is way out of their depth. I have heard time and time again certain economists stating, especially Kieran Allen, to bring in an independent forensic team of specialists to assist the cops and urgently. This is going on far too long and in the middle of it Sean FitzPatrick and Fish Fingers Fingleton will play their golf on the best links from here to Spain and the Algarve. I then ask the question - for a man like Fitzie who who was declared bankrupt last winter by the High Court - how can he still live the life of a King? Yet, prison numbers have in 2010 exceeded 7,000 for the first time in our history since the Civil War. As Luke Ming Flanagan said - you will not see a banker or a developer among the 7,000 inmates. Simple Question: If I break a Bank and a Nation - I receive a lump sum and play golf. If I go out and rob food to feed my hungry children and in desperation, I will find myself under the full attack of Irish law and the DPP will be swift to charge me and leave me on a landing holding a piss pot in Mountjoy jail.

People might think I am being too simplistic. Let us get real here. We may have a change of Government but take a deeper look - there is no real change out there. The cronyism, the 1% elite Established Classes, remain fully intact and in charge and I am sadly bewildered as to why the Irish people have not come out in force to regain back their country, their democracy and above all their basic civil liberties.

I noticed in the Daily Mail today that 40 murders were committed while people were out on bail and then a whole list of data on other offences. That is fine but let us going to the banking list and you will see that the old guard are still there. As Shane Ross said today on Radio 1 - the bonuses are still being paid. He was speaking in relation to a 3 m. given to the general manager Doherty AIB. This is a crime against the Irish people. On top of this we paid 66 m in bonuses on behalf of Bank of Ireland led by Richie the Pouncer. We now as a people own these fucking banks so why are we allowing this fraud to continue. Enda Kenny - the Mayo boy scout is now doing the exact thing as the last establishment i.e. nothing to stop the blatant abuse of Irish taxpayers money. We are now the outcasts of Europe and in global terms we are now officially on the radar as the true Irish banana republic.

The Irish people have again been fooled after another white wash enquiry. No names of disgraced bankers will be named. I as an Irish taxpayer would like to know who took my son's life and generation's future away through greed, corruption and cronyism. Yes we are back to the horrible era of mass emigration. Sadly this time it is a brain drain that we will never be able to recoup. I ask again where are the charges and how are these people walking away with taxpayers money in sums of multi million euros. AIB's Doherty will walk away with a package of 3.2 million e. plus free medical care for life and a pension of 330,000 p.a. euros. In another jurisdiction, it would be a very different matter.

Enda Kenny said today in the papers that he is appalled by the package that Doherty has taken with him. Yet Kenny calls the shots now. He is supposed to be the Taoiseach; we own the banks literally so what is the problem. Take back the lump sum from Doherty and give a pension of 50,000 euros which is still way above the national average. Alan Shatter, Justice Minister speaking at the Garda Sergeants and Inspectors Conference said clearly that the package that Doherty received was, in his opinion, criminal. Again, I repeat myself - where is the problem. The taxpayer has now the advantage of stopping these bonuses from being paid out surely. In the case of the DPP with files on their desk surely one out of a potential 200 people between bankers, developers, accountants, auditors and not forgetting people in the Department of Finance who have their faces and names hidden since 2008. I now am totally convinced we do not live in any form of a democracy in this country and I would like to implore Joe Higgins and the people on the left to keep screaming across the floor of the so called corridors of power that the Irish people are the true leaders of their own destiny. I sadly believe that right now our rights, our future, our children's future, has been taken away from us by a group of people who believed and still believe that they are untouchable.

We are now into Easter 2011 and Vincent Browne keeps saying the same line: just like Higgins and the rest. Not one is before the courts on one indictment that has put the people of Ireland in debt to the tune of 240 billion plus euros. Yes we are the outcasts of Europe and as one economist said last night, we have the worst collection of banking and sovereign debt on the planet. It is hard to swallow that our prison numbers have increased to almost 7,000, over 30% of these people are in prison for parking fines, lack of payment on tv licences, ESB bills, and barring orders. So - who exactly is calling the shots now because I was certain 2 months ago that we had an election and a change of government. But somewhere along the road again someone stopped the word Democracy progressing through all ranks of this teinted and stained society which 1% of the elite has the power to do.

I cannot understand how people say they feel foolish about being fooled yet again in relation to bankers, bonuses and non existent criminal charges in the current climate. Let us face some reality here, we have a FG and Labour coalition that has more seats than the combined opposition multiplied by 2. This can be dangerous, it can be seen now that this administration will never deliver on the pre election promises. Yes I agree the ordinary man on the street and woman own the banks and why don't we shame these so called untouchables into giving back the lump sums to the taxpayers. This will not happen because there is no drive, motivation or will to change this corrupt menu of bonuses for the same people who brought a Nation to its fucking knees.

This same Government still finances the Shell corrupt pipeline that presently as I am writing this is walking the roads of west Mayo like a private army and supported by the so called Gardai Siochana who within our Constitution are there to protect all Irish citizens. Yet our constitutional rights are being torn to shreds by the fact that the Gardai assist the heavies and private mercenaries of Shell. This fact alone should have told people before the election in March that they were voting for the same non regime change. Watching Pat Rabbitte on Browne p.m., one thing hit me, he looked withdrawn, out of clarity and tired. The same Rabbitte before the election was promising the Irish people 'We will stop the bonuses - We will reduce the large financial packages of the top semi-state elites - we will make sure that the Irish taxpayer gets full accountability in this most aggressive recession in the history of this country'. Well Pat Rabbitte did not tell the Irish people last night the words I have just said. I will go further. Last night Rabbitte said nothing and Gilmore in the Dail is acting as Kenny's gatekeeper just giving out sound bites with no foundation and no sense of objectivity, good, bad, or indifferent.

So I will close by saying: last week one individual in a banking institution along with more in the AIB lost 16 BILLION EUROS and the Irish taxpayer has to fork out to equate the lost. Then this individual Doherty gets rewarded for doing the above with a 3 million euros bonus and the rest is history. Don't forget there are people in Mountjoy tonight doing 7 days for non payment of parking fines and domestic bills. Would someone please clarify for me the word Democracy.

Performance Contract: Does this apply to employment contracts that include bonuses for losses not profits - does anyone know?

We have, I believe, the names of the people who broke the Nation financially and in spirit, in my opinion. I would like to know when will the Irish taxpayer learn who he is paying back ie the biggest debt in a sovereign state since the 1929 Crash. There are figures now reaching a half million people unemployed. To add to this number you have every man woman and child in this country working or not carrying a levy of total enforcement with no choice or democratic right to say no to the people who won't be named. Now my question is - why are these people not named and shamed. They are responsible for mass emigration, they are responsible for bringing in the IMF and ECB to our shores and yet they will go away like Doherty in AIB, BIFFO, Harney, Hanafin, Couglan, Ahern, Gormley, Ryan and so many more. Excluding the latter two, the rest like their cohorts have big financial handouts and pensions that are costing and will cost the Irish taxpayer millions of euros for the years to come and now. Recently on Irish radio, since his retirement, Dermot Ahern, former Justice Minister who went on TV and Prime Time and categorically denied that the IMF were in Dublin previously said that he had no recollection of basically 'LYING' and for the years of service he gave the Irish people he was entitled morally to his payout of 350,000 e. plus a pension 130,000 e. annually. This would be classed as criminal in another jurisdiction. But this is Ireland and I would like now to ask the trade union movement which I am a member of and the students and young people in general to stand up and make their voice heard and regain some respect across the European Divide. We are a bankrupt State and yet today's papers especially the Indo has stated that our public sector is paid 35% higher than our European counterparts.

I heard Brendan Howlin, Labour saying last Wednesday on radio that we are trying to curtail the salaries and our aim is to cap them at 200,000 annually. Is Howlin on neptune? People out there now are living on a 186 euros weekly. We had a young mother who frose to death in a flat in Ballymun last Christmas who left two small children behind. We are now a rogue nation of cronyism, corruption, and the so called elite of 1% who destroyed this country have not gone away (nor has their money). Some of these people are still on State Boards, banking boards, semi-private boards etc. Before BIFFO left office he appointed all his cronies to different departmental positions (cash cows). Yes I am angry and I only hope that I am not alone.

Reading today's paper I just went through the names of the people who were part of the collective downturn of this economy and also they wrecked the future of a generation to come.

Some of the idiots are named:

John Hurley: lump sum: 630,000 e. pension: 143,000 e.

Bertie Ahern: lump sum: 525,000 e. pension: 175,000 e.

Biffo Cowen: lump sum: 148,000 e. pension: 160,000 e.

Brian Goggin: lump sum: 300,000 e. pension: 650,000 e. - alarm bells!!

Charlie Dodgy McCreevy: lump sum: 537,000 e. pension: 173,000 - Disgraceful

Sean Fitzpatrick: lump sum: unknown pension: 458,000 e. - I thought this man was declared bankrupt in the High Court. Alarm Bells!!!

Fingers Fingleton: lump sum: 1 MILLION e. This is criminal. pension: unknown to the Irish taxpayer.

David Doyle: lump sum: 345,000 e. pension: 145,000 e.

Others are of similar figures that can only be described as criminal.

This includes the former financial regulator who stood down in disgrace and yet received a lump sum of 428,000 e. and a pension which came early of 202,000 e.

Now I would like to know would any other country in the European region and beyond accept this. United Left Alliance have been very quiet all week and I only hope that they fire on all cylinders on behalf of the ordinary people of this country who seem to have their democracy and choice taken away from them. Today on the radio I heard several journalists including Michael Clifford say that we need a Charter for Truth and for Accountability. I am afraid it is too late but I hope that somebody will find a reason to connect with people all over this country in getting together and standing together at the Dail gates and fight this corruption that appears to be flowing in a massive scale.

Logic will tell me that we are bankrupt and sources will tell me that ordinary people are finding it difficult to put food on the table. Yet, this elite bunch of gobshites mentioned above seem to be totally untouchable.

I have two young children. My wife before Christmas had a horsefall. After four months in Rehab in Dun Laoghaire - home in a wheelchair. We are coping as best we can. It took 10 weeks to get some money from my own so called government to put food on the table. Otherwise my kids would have gone hungry. I went to College and Third Level and I often wondered how after all my taxes for 21 years I had literally to beg for help. Now I look around me and I see Mary Harney who left the HSE in tatters, walking away according to todays radio waves with a pension and a lump sum - a total package that will cost the Irish taxpayer 7 million min. This is a moral disgrace and I feel so full of anger. At night I go for long walks and just think long and hard how things hopefully will get better.

Today I had a chance to listen to the Brian Lenihan interview on radio 4. I could not believe what came out of this man's mouth. He now states categorically that he was bullied by the ECB into having to accept the Bail Out and also he went on to state he had to fly back from Brussels to get permission off the Taoiseach of the Day Brian Cowen to go along with the route the ECB had laid out. This now is clearly telling the Irish people that lies were told in 2008, 2009, 2010 and clearly it states that the other members of the Cabinet were completely in the dark in relation to the IMF being at our Front Door last year. Why have we as a Nation lost our sense of outrage and I now as a carer for my wife and children feel diminished and that I should be ashamed in asking for help in the eyes of the so called Established Classes who have taken this country into bankruptcy. I am not ashamed in asking for help and I will get our lives back on track but the problem is, will this new administration get the lives of the Irish people back to a safe place again. For the first time in my 41 years on this earth I have serious doubts. Certain people seem to be able to walk away from every mess they create with no sense of shame, or regret, only a large pay off and a bonus intact and the freedom to leave Ireland and become tax exiles.

I want a change of mindset for the future of my children and I hope that the trade unions and the United Left Alliance can pull together with no internal fighting and stand firm and get these 1% elite to pay back the bonuses and at least half their pensions. Maybe I am dreaming. Yes I am angry and I have every right to be.

I have the deepest sympathy for you and your family and I want to admire the way you state that you will make things better for you and your family and I hope like many others you succeed. You deserve no less and hopefully you will get the financial support that you are entitled to as an Irish taxpayer. It should not be ever known as a privilige. I totally agree in relation to the pensions, the lump sums, and the complete mafia style send-offs that these people received against the wishes of the Irish people. Yes, I heard the radio yesterday when Lenihan finally admitted he lied in relation to the banks and the IMF coming in our Front Door. The last thing we need now is for Joan Burton to come on the TV this evening and start crying wolf as usual and demanding a public inquiry in relation to the banking collapse and the IMF bail-out. In the name of Justice do we need another inquiry. Please Joan go away and just shut up. Don't we have enough barrister millionaires going around donning their pin-stripes and brief cases on the Quays every day. What we need is a complete clear out of the old cartels and a new injection of a way forward with some sense of honesty and integrity. Fingers will not hand over a 1 million euros bonus for shafting the Irish people. Seanie is browned off in Spain and now Lenihan is having a total recall about the lies told over the last 3 years and being bullied. Please save us Brian the heroics. The Irish people are not stupid and that is why you are the only FF TD left standing in the entire counties of Meath and Dublin. It is up now the Irish people especially the young to keep hacking away at the old cartels and to make changes that hopefully will change this country from the swamp of corruption that consumes it and is without boundaries.

What a very strange and silent week? Kenny is on the front of the Irish Times today walking 30 miles across the Mayo hills. Why I don't really care but I would like to know what is the new Cabinet doing in relation to this extraordinarily excessive banking bailout of behalf of the Irish people? Thousands of Irish people are contacting the Vincent de Paul Society for financial help in trying to keep food on the table. Around this country town by town you can go as far as small villages, people are struggling to maintain small shops, pubs, and farms. Yet, a Golden Circle of people who are responsible for the destruction of Ireland and who handed over the title deeds of a Nation to Frankfurt/Paris are enjoying the fruits of failure - I don't have to give any examples. Just check the amount of millions that has been paid out to finance their pay-offs and their pension. Add to this the massive capital flows out of the country from the disgraced banks also.

How long will it take now for the Irish people to regain some sort of personal dignity to march in their thousands to the gates of the most corrupt building on the Island of Ireland i.e. the Dail, Kildare Street (the facilitator). The change of government has not fooled anybody and they pursue the same policies as the previous govt. - the make sure and maintain a status quo of 'don't burn the bondholders' just put the levies and pain on the Irish taxpayers. What does it take to ignite outrage? I believe also that Jack O'Connor and Frank Connolly and the rest in SIPTU are beyond the word silent but then again O'Connor is on approximately e. 160,000 plus expenses, as is David Beggs - can we really afford the quangos of so called Trade Unionism in its present cushy format. I don't think we can. This bail out is too high a price to afford and therefore to pay and eventually there will have to be a default to give small businesses and ordinary people time to breathe and regain some form of personal momentum.

a couple of months ago, there was break in in South Dublin in the middle of the day at the house of Mr. Aynsley, former
Anglo Irish banker. The break in according to the Sunday Independent at the time was clinical and well planned
it is believed that taken from the house was a lap top and an i-phone. The laptop is alleged to have contained
delicate details in relation to names and other info of how Anglo worked between 2006 to 2009. The papers
went on to say that Garda HQ purposely played down the break-in as an opportunistic thief who just got lucky.

Recently, according to a journalist in the Evening Herald behind closed doors at Garda HQ the break-in is being taken
very seriously. In the light of the collapse of the Irish banks and also hearing on yesterday's news that senior bankers
mainly Drumm are still obstructing the ongoing investigation by the Garda fraud squad I always thought it was a serious
offence to purposely obstruct any garda investigation. Plus the fact that the Irish taxpayer has to pick up the multi
billion losses of these gangster bankers. This is a very serious development and yet RTE and Garda HQ are playing
a very constructive low key operation. What are we missing in this precarious and sinister development.

In the last few days people in this country may not be aware of the latest scenario relating to former disgraced bank chief Fingers Fingleton. I believe with Lizzie and Obama arriving and gone the government will be too happy to think some of us may have forgotten the other mundane matters away from the hype that is happening on a daily basis. Fingleton has received a written letter from the internal boss at present at Nationwide to return the 1 million euros bonus (scandal). The amazing thing about this is that various bank chiefs across the divide have stated clearly 'don't hold your breath for a response'. I would like to know why is Michael Noonan, the FG so called attack dog so quiet on this issue. For that matter I also would like to know where is the Fraud Squad, the CAB on all the issues relating to the biggest banking crisis probably in the history of Western Europe.

Yesterday, in the High Court, while the crowds gathered at College Green and were told by Kenny and Obama to 'never give up. To believe in your dreams...great rhetoric but at the High Court 17 Irish citizens had their homes re-possessed by the banks. Can someone explain to me where is the hope in these families lives today?

The developers and some builders owe multiple billions and yet not one has had their family home confiscated. On top of this we have Drumm and Dunne in the USA starting new lives with all their assets transferred to their wives' names. Hope: O yes, for the wealthy and often new wealth and I do believe now that some of these people are now untouchable. Again, I plead with people to get behind Joe Higgins and the rest and march, march until some retributive measures are pursued by Govt. I also agree in relation to the above postings that the theft of these lap tops is very low key and something stinks heavily.
