In last week's Net Zero edition of the BBC's Moral Maze, the most basic objection to climate doomerism ? that Net Zero 2050 could leave billions dead of starvation ? was ignored, says Chris Morrison.

German state media have systematically slandered Charlie Kirk in the wake of his assassination, says Eugyppius. They portray him as an unhinged and dangerous fascist, just stopping short of blaming him for his own death.

Pentagon Procures Propaganda-Laden Bibles

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Wednesday December 15, 2004 04:44author by Stephen Peacockauthor email stevepeacock at yahoo dot comauthor address P.O. Box 370; Meshoppen, PA 18630, USA Report this post to the editors

Mixing of Nationalism and Religiosity Continues in U.S.

The U.S. Dept. of Defense plans to have 10,000 Bibles published that will contain military photos and text inserts. Click on the below link to access the article, which appears in the current issue of SoJo Mail, the online, biweekly news update of Sojourners magazine (Sojourners retains all rights to this article by former Washington, DC reporter Steve Peacock, who is seeking feedback from his Irish brothers and sisters across the Atlantic.)

I would like to note that, one day after I posted on indymedai.ie a link to the Sojourners story about the Pentagon's procurement of custom-made Bibles, the U.S. government removed the actual procurement notice from its public database.

Hence, the link to original DoD notice -- which was made available at the end of the SoJo story via a link marked, "No Kidding," is currently not functioning.

Hence, I anticipate that this factor will help fuel accusations that my story is a hoax. It is not.

Its absolute BLASPHEMY. How dare they.

Shame on them.

Why did you only publish this weird and wonderful story here on the Irish indymedia site and nowhere else? If it was true then I would imagine you would have posted it on one, or more of the US sites.
When I saw this first I assumed there must be some background to it, after all it does sound plausible, Bush - bibles - US militarism etc. It would not be inconsistent with what we know of the Bush regime.
If there was anything to it I'm sure someone would, eventually, be able to produce one or more of these bibles, but in the meantime we just have to regard it as an unsubstantiated rumour.
Anyway such a bible is unlikely to be out of character with the existing bible, which has more than its fair share of stories of military exploits, mass slaughter, blood sacrifice, and other gory and unholy deeds.

Actually, I did indeed widely distribute a link to the SoJo article, although recent personal events prevented me from doing so as quickly or as extensively as I would have liked. In addition to a couple of IndyMedia sites (i.e: Washington, DC, etc.), I also sent the link to numerous Web discussion boards, and in turn the story became a hot topic on several of those boards in addition to a few blogs worldwide; indymedia.ie was one of the first sites I sent it to simply because Ireland is, of course, an English-speaking nation with many citizens who are Christians. Call it non-profit, target-marketing, if you will.

Regarding any lingering doubts that this Dept. of Defense procurement of customized Bibles is real, I've included a link to a copy of the initial DoD solicitation notice. Although the Pentagon apparently has relegated all other traces of the notice to the U.S. Government Memory Hole, fortunately the notice was reproduced -- unrelated to the SoJo article -- by FBOdaily.com, a site which specializes in and provides services relating to U.S. federal contracting opportunities.

I hope this alleviates any suspicion that my reporting on this Army-designed Bible Project is innacurate or untrue. As a former Capitol Hill reporter-turned independent journalist, I stake my integrity and reputation on this matter.

Don't forget that the US Special Operations Command not only is adept at conducting "precision strikes" against targeted people and facilities, its other specialty is psychological warfare and disinformation; as evidenced by the removal of the procurement notice from a publicly accessible federal database following publication of the SoJo article, I have now experienced the end-result of such a successful PsyOps mission. That's no conspiracy theory.

The Dept. of Defense did not surreptitiously remove the procurement notice in question, but rather it sent it to an archival system. My apologies for any confusion. Here it is.

that the christianity of the USA is in schism with the christian beliefs of Europe. The Roman and Orthodox churches who make up the vast majority of European believers consider the evangelical belief systems to be heretical on many counts, and their prosletyisation is for the most part "unwanted" in mainland europe where the route to proper democracy though recognising the right to religious belief, is based on accords with the dominant strains of judeu-christian beliefs from which are cultural and ethical traditions are together with hellenic philosophy based.

"Leviticus doesn't do it for us you see."

This becomes ever more important as Europe embraces the other tradition of the "books" that of Islam. A secular society is based on mutual tolerance and respect, and ahem "better the divil you know than the divil you don't". So it would be really great if some friendly billionaire would print up a few squillion copies of virgil and homer and shakespeare and cervantes and drop them from a height on the bible belt of the USA.

Before they ever try and ban them on us.

Rather than reveal the "Army-designed photgraphs and text inserts" that were slated to be published inside the "custom" Bibles, the Army Special Operations Command has cancelled the project, desperately seeking a loophole to evade compliance with the federal Freedom of Information Act.
