Another suspected CIA plane at Shannon today.

Already listed by statewatch as part of the CIA fleet, and the subject of questions in the British Parliament, this airplane slipped unhindered into Shannon this afternoon, and left without any queries from the localauthorities. (Except perhaps "how many sugar in the tea?")

Spotted by Ed at Shannon this afternoon at 1pm, local time, N368CE, the Boeing 737 took off shortly after 2pm, on a heading of 110 degrees, roughly East by South East (which took it over my house as it happens)

Reportedly the aircraft is mentioned on the Luxembourg Parliamentary Assembly’s list of 41 “suspect aircraft” landed in Luxembourg: and the Luxembourg governmentdirected in February 2006, that Luxembourg airport authorities are required to inform immediately the competent Minister in case a flight plan indicates a planned landing of one of the aircrafts mentioned on the Parliamentary Assembly list. As necessary, competent authorities will inspect the aircraft.

Not so in Ireland obviously...

some of the things not blacked out included cruise missiles... it's a matter of public record, they are government documents, they were produced in court and accepted as evidence and the State did not contest their veracity. Continue to live in fantasy land if you wish, but the facts are still the facts. I'm getting bored of you though... Do you have any comment on the CIA stuff which the story above actually deals with, or do you plan to post distraction after distraction?

And why is this story listed as a consumer issue? I assume that was a clumsy click on the mouse by the author?

So as far as you are concerned, the only thing coming through is troop flights?

Only half the US military flights through Shannon were carrying troops. The rest were military cargo.

Partially censored court documents show that the Gardai were informed of explosive cargo being brought through Shannon. so, in fact... yes.

I think D Nazi made a fair point... sarcastic, but fair.
A10, (who likes to pretend he is ex military, and works at Shannon) argued that the US military business pays for his holidays.
D Nazi satirised him, by presenting that argument from the point of view of someone who helped ship people to concentration camps...

I think it was one of the Plowshares, who made the comparison and contrast that In Nazi Germany, the rail workers sent the people to their deaths, by pulling levers to send train loads of jews, gypsies, homosexuals, off down the tracks to the camps, whereas in Ireland, we help send the death to the people, by fuelling, parking and giving airspace to planes carrying troops, bombs and CIA torture squads.

At least the Germans would be able to argue that they didn't refuse to do this because they were in fear of the Gestapo. What excuse do the Irish have?

"tell Saddam's victims... oh, they're dead..." very true...
His invasion of Iran was unprovoked, and supported by European, American and Arabian governments, with arms, money, military and intelligence support, refuelling facilities (Kuwait and Saudi Arabia) and compliant media reports.

More Iraqis died from UN sanctions than from the war, as the "benevolent" members of the UN Security council denied Iraq the basics to maintain healthcare, water and swerage systems, and that's before you figure in the DU disasters.

So, for all those dead Iraqis, and dead Iranians of Saddams "Whirlwind war" and the sanctions there should be a sense of shame that more people are not standing next to Saddam in the dock, how about Rumsfeld for example who contnued to support and meet Saddam even after the gassing of Halabja? The British government extended further export credit to Hussein after that incident.

Incidentally, the Americans provided Hawk Missiles and other equipment to the IRANIANS during the same war at the same time that they were helping Saddam. US spook Robert McFarlane, and Oliver North headed up the delegation and travelled to Tehran on IRISH PASSPORTS, McFarlane used the cover name SEAN DEVLIN. I forget what name was on Oliver North's Irish passport US spooks had stolen passports from the Irish Embassy in Athens, and then doctored them. (by the way North was briefly detained at SNN wth a false Irish passport, but very quickly allowed to continue).

So, lets not pretend that the US had no hand, act or part in arming the countries that they now attack (and act confused when they are not welcome)
I'm sure the commission on the arms deals paid for quite a few people's holidays too, but the dead and the bereaved care little for those profiteers.

If you're going to condemn Saddam Hussein, don't develop amnesia about his accomplices.

The US and Britain were more than friendly to the Shah of Iran during the worst excesses of the SAVAK secret police, with all their torture, rape and execution. They complained about the SAME behaviour from Ayatollah Kohomeni, not because of human rights, but because of geo-poltical interests. All the moral grandstanding from London and Washington rings very hollow in the ears of Iraqis and Iranians old enough to remember the 70s and 80s. When the Shah had people tortured, he used the same lies to justify it as Saddam did, as Stalin did, as Khomeni did, and as George W Bush does now... are we to judge them on what they do, or just how much we lust after the scraps from their tables?

It is because we love Americans that we think you should bring your troops home to their families.

Ten good reasons to love America:
1. Mark Twain.
I first read Huckleberry Finn when I was about 11 years old, and I read it again for the second time recently. Probably e greatest work of satire I've ever read. Alternately disturbing, moving and painfully funny in the way it presents Huck's and Jim’s thoughts on slavery.

2. Ultimate frisbee.
Like basketball, Ultimate frisbee is a non-contact sport that requires skill and stamina more than brute force. I'm looking forward to playing in the Ultimate summer league starting in Dublin 17 July, and I expect to have at least one American on my team, as I did last year.

This angle has already been well covered by Tim Hourigan in a report and comments following the demo last weekend. Here's a very lightly edited version of his analysis:

Rather than develop a viable business plan for the airport - e.g. developing it for civilian freight - and making the west of Ireland more appealing to tourists and business travellers - e.g. by developing a western rail corridor - the government has allowed the airport to become dependent on blood money from the US military.

Given the unpredictable nature of wars, and the uncertainty of how long they last, this was never a reliable source of income. Aside from the moral implications of taking money for assisting mass murder, the figures quoted for military revenue - working out at about EUR 270 per dead Iraqi - ignore the associated costs, such as the fuel, security (15 million for Bush's 2004 visit), aircraft ground fees and the waived Air Traffic Control fees. (ATC charges are instead paid for by the Irish taxpayer and amounting to over EUR 10 million since 2001.)

Claims by local politicians and business interests that the US military use of Shannon is justified for economic reasons ignores both the economic reality of this business and the humanitarian disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tim's analysis takes no account of losses incurred by extra security measures, either routine measures or emergency evacuations in the event of bomb scares - hidden costs of fighting a phantom enemy.

I'm sure I missed lots of stories.

I doubt this 'anti-american/war' thing is a Dub plot to remove the bogport off the map. Aer Rianta like both Dublin Airport and Shannon Warport.

Besides, what with two major security scandals/lapses in Dublin Aiport within days of each other, in the last week, I doubt they'd be in a position to offer criticism.

I wonder A10, if you divided all this overtime you made by the number of American soldiers killed (that passed through Shannon) over the time that you built up your overtime - how much profit did you make per head?

But I do agree with you on one point, Aer Rianta is anti-American.

Really wonder is this anti American /war thing really a Dub based Aer Rianta sponsored "Lets get rid of that fuckin bog airport in the midwest at any cost." This farce somtimes has all the marks of a COINTLPRO operation.

Been reading this week's edition of our local rag, the Limerick Leader.

Two stories came to my attention.

Page 12 the headline reads:
Expert Panel vote Shannon Airport the best in Europe.

The warport has been selected as the best airport in Europe in the 1m to 5m passanger category by the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe.

They quote the judges as saying that the warport, "continues to impress with it's 'can-do spirit' in constantly looking for improvements in its retail offerings, facilities and passanger/airline facilitation."

NO COMMENT

The second story that caught my eye was on the front page, and highlighted the excellence exuded above:

The headline reads:
Exposed: airport security failures.

This piece tells us that security bosses in Shannon Warport are embarrased, following a claim that a passanger carried a 4-inch knife through the airport on two occasions. He was searched on his way from Shannon to the UK and had to remove his shoes and belt. The knife in his jacket pocket however triggered no alarm. He returned with the knife through the terminal two days later.

NO COMMENT

• The N368CE is a Boeing 737-300 registered to a shell company called Premier Aircraft
Management and incorporated in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Recently, the ownership of
the Boeing has shifted from Premier Aircraft Management to a sister company called
Vision Airlines.
• The German magazine Stern states that the aircraft, American registration number
N368CE, is considered part of the CIA's fleet, but that the American Army has denied
this when asked. The plane in question is apparently listed as a "passenger machine of
the US Army".
• It is surprising to notice the routes made by the N368CE from June 2005 to November
2005. It made almost daily the route Frankfurt (Germany)-Ashkhabad
(Turkmenistan), (Turkmenistan). From September 2005 to end of November 2005, the
plane made almost daily, for four months, the route Frankfurt (Germany)-Ashkhabad
