Pics show german soldiers `playing´ with a skull in Afghanistan

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Wednesday October 25, 2006 18:54author by xy Report this post to the editors

Germanys biggest boulevard-newspaper "BILD" today printed photos showing german soldiers in Afghanistan showing a skull for trophy and fixing it to a patrol car. Among these pics also one showing a soldier trying to stick his penis into the skull.

Germanys minister for defense as well as the government condemns the action of the soldiers. The responsible soldiers were already found and will be accused at a military court as well as supposedly at a civil court.

The skull seems to be from a mass grave about 1o miles from Kabul.

One time me and my medical student friends dressed a skeleton in a hat suit shoes and coat and brought him into the pub. We all asked for a pint and one for our "friend". The barman almost hit the ceiling.

Besides on Channel 4 a doctor performed autopsies as entertainment and he holds public exhibitions of skinned and dissected human corpses.

What's new about soldiers larking about with a skull?

What about the "Bog bodies" in the National Museum?
Thousands of tourists turn up to ogle the mummified remains and body parts of ancient Celts.
What about the travesty in 2001 which was the worship of the remains of St. Therese carried from town to town in a glod box?
Irish people display the corpses of the dead in their own homes and then march down the street carrying them in a box bury them in the ground and then set up a headstone to proudly show them off.

I read that the Germans are considering charging the soldiers with "disturbing the peace of the dead."

People have infantile attitudes toward the dead.

A dead body is a dead body.

It's not a person.

What do you suggest we do with death?

Pretend it does not exist?

The rituals of the wake-which you are roundly taking the piss of, are for
specific reasons and not your business really- if you want to deny that
dying, lamenting and grieving do not exist.

The expense, of course is another thing. (thats an obscenity)

As to the german's playing with a skull- they are de-sensitised to their own
brutality- someone may play with theirs one day.......

Fair enough I respect your traditions of mourning the dead and believing that the body is a vessel for some spiritual essence or whatever.

I believe when your dead your dead.

But It is not a crime to play around with body parts.

It's insensitive perhaps.

But not a crime.

Archaeologists regularly disturb graves, excavate them and bring boxes of bones back to the lab.

I doubt the Medieval folk who buried them long ago who expected the body and soul to be raised on the last would have been pleased.

But who cares their dead and so are all their great grand children.

But you're right, when you're dead , you're dead.

The crime created the skull in the war situation and desecrating the dignity of the
survivors is just pissing on their feelings. It's not a crime to play with a skull
after the illegal war, invasion and destruction of their society. Its a crime to
add insult to injury. It speaks more of the brutalism of the west now doesn't it?

Editor's Note: Trolling has been edited out here (the entire first paragraph.

The National Museum treats all bodies and bones with the utmost respect “Peter”. I too find it bizarre and grotesque that body parts are displayed but the Museum but they do not joke about with them and hold them to their genitals like the German soldiers did in Afghanistan. As for “Saint” Therese…..what can I say, that is just entirely bizarre but if Catholics have no problem with bone worship then that is their business. It was a bone from her foot I understand but that would be an ecumenical matter.

“Dave” your views about a body having no link to a persons soul is your business, but it is not how Afghans see it. So, when you die can we feed you to the animals in the zoo? This wont upset your family? And if you do wish to disregard your body like that please understand that in the Muslim religion the way the body is treated after death is very important. This type of desecration is completely unforgivable.

And to “Frank” who believes it is not a crime to play around with body parts I wonder what he would say if he found the bin men strapping his mothers skull to the front of their truck as the German soldiers did in Afghanistan? How would loyalists feel if a black taxi on the Falls road drove along with the skull of Carson on the bonnet? What would republicans do if Loyalists drove up the Shankhill with Bobby Sands’ skull on the roof, for “fun”? Would it be worse if it were the Army or PSNI? As part of NATO/ISAF the Germans were supposed to have been a peace keeping force. Is this how we would like our police to act? What if the some Garda put the skull of Charlie Haughey on their car? I have an idea for Garda Gerry McCabes skull, I’m sure nobody would care. But of course if we were subliminally conditioned to see Muslims as less than human then it would be just a joke, right? Ha Ha, listen to me laugh.

As well as the many mass murders NATO/ISAF has carried out this past month and the vandalism and destruction of Afghan homes, this shows they are no more than a bunch of thugs with no interest, training or ability to treat the people of Afghanistan as any more than sub-humans to be abused. They should be called home at one, starting with the Irish army participants in NATO/ISAF. Lobby your TD’S to take Irelands troops out of this criminal force. Until then I will piss on their flag, sure who will care, it’s only a flag….ha ha ha ….das ist sier funny, Ya!

Here is a report in the magazine that carried the pictures. "Video-player" shows pictures

Israeli jets 'fire' on Germans

Israel has denied German reports that two of its air force planes flew over a German navy vessel patrolling Lebanon's coast, firing twice and letting off flares.

Germany's Defence Ministry has confirmed newspaper reports that the incident took place, without saying when or why it happened.

According to the report in the Tagesspiegel newpaper, two Israeli F-16 planes fired shots as well as anti-missile defence flares while flying low over the German vessel.
