Pope Leo, like Francis, is an open borders enthusiast for whom it seems no migrant should be turned away. Why are senior churchmen so blind to sense and deaf to public concerns on border security, asks Prof Roger Watson.

24,000 Videos of Torture Filmed at Guantanamo

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Thursday March 13, 2008 18:25author by Seán Ryan Report this post to the editors

All the interrogations were filmed.

A new study conducted by various associates of Seton Hall University School of law has found that there have been more than 24,000 interrogations conducted at Guantanamo since 2002 and that all of them were videoed.

Students and professors alike examined thousands of documents to arrive at their conclusions. The proof of the taping was first deduced from an army report: On May 24, 2005, Lieutenant General Kevin C. Kiley, M.D.—the Surgeon General of the United States Army wrote a report to calm fears regarding the suspected abuse of prisoners detained in Guantanamo. From this report it arose that doctors were involved in interrogations. Fearing the flack that would result from it being revelaed that doctors had unethically taken part in interrogations it was pointed out that the doctors had not actually taken part in the interrogations themselves, but had reviewed the interrogations, after the fact, by watching the videos that were made of the interrogations.

This report outlines the barbarity that the US has descended to - here's but a single excerpt from the study:

One Government document, for instance, reports detainee treatment so violent as to “shake the camera in the interrogation room” and “cause severe internal injury.” Another describes an interrogator positioning herself between a detainee and the camera, in order to block her actions from view.

So, the CIA have claimed that they have only destroyed two tapes of 'harsh interrogations.' That still leaves around 24,000 tapes of extreme violations of human rights waiting to surface.

The proverbial shite is waiting to hit the fan.

You can download the report produced by the Seton Hall people at the following source and I suggest that you do, the report makes very disturbing reading, all moral people should and will be outraged:

This week, Michael Hayden, the director of the CIA offered his torturers, kidnappers and those who destroy the evidence of the CIA's crimes, some 'crimes against humanity' insurance. I kid you not. Agents will have to fork over around $300 to indemnify themselves financially against criminal and civil cases that will probably be brought against them. The policy typically, covers up to $1million in court judgements and settlements, $100,000 for criminal defence and up to $200,000 for defence in civil proceedings.

Is this an indication that things are going 'pear shaped' for these criminals?

I hope so and I can't wait till poor Michael Hayden is told that prison sentences cannot be indemnified against, short of George W. pulling a string or two before he exits the Whitehouse.
