SAAB Microwave Becoming2 Ploughshares Action in Sweden

On Thursday, June 26, 2008, two Ploughshares activists were arrested inside SAAB Microwave in Sweden. Using blacksmith hammers, Ulla Roder and Per Herngren started to disarm military radar at SAAB Microwave's test range at Mölndal and planted fig trees in the area around the factory.

" The word of the prophet Micah makes us move", explained Ulla Røder. "We beat SWORDS INTO PLOUGHSHARES.

"We do have the ability of direct intervention", Ulla Røder believes. "It becomes a duty when there is violence and suffering in the world. We use non-violence. I do believe that we are not practicing civil disobedience, but upholding International law. It is SAAB Microwave who breaks the law when delivering the missile firing system used during the war in Iraq.

It is always a great gift when an act of nonviolent disarmament goes down, especially in a time of escalating war and massive profiteering form those who deal in death. It reassures us that the simple human work of claiming a future can go on. It is also challenging when one knows the people who have risked their liberty in a spirit of anti-war reistance. Both Per and Ulla have visited Ireland. Per attended the trials of the Pitstop Ploughshares ww.peaceontrial.com in Dublin. Ulla lived in Scotland for a number of years.

Ulla Røder
Ulla Røder, 53 years old from Denmark disarmed a test laboratory for the nuclear submarine Trident system at Loch Goil, Scotland in 1999 together with the Trident Three Ploughshares group. http://www.plowsharesactions.org/webpages/TRIDENTTHREED...N.htm They won the trial. In the week before the war on Iraq in 2003 Ulla disarmed a Tornado jet going to be used for the attack on civilians in Iraq. Ulla has spent more than a year on remand in prison for these actions and other non-violent direct actions.

Per Herngren

During the first war on Iraq 1991 he disarmed two Carl Gustaf grenades riffle at FFV, Eskilstuna. . He is 46 years old and lives in Hammarkullen in Sweden and works as a writer. His books have been published into the language of Swedish, Polish, and English.
