Boycott Israeli produce

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Saturday January 03, 2009 16:38author by newsmedia - newsmedianews Report this post to the editors

Effective civilian action against Israeli produce in protest against its military strikes on Gaze could include boycotting all Israeli export produce.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Israel

The major industrial sectors include metal products, electronic and biomedical equipment, processed foods, chemicals, and transport equipment. Israel possesses a substantial service sector and the Israel diamond industry is one of the world's centers for diamond cutting and polishing. It is also a world leader in software development and is a major tourist destination. In 1998, Tel Aviv was named by Newsweek as one of the ten most technologically influential cities in the world. American billionaires and business tycoons including Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Donald Trump have each praised Israel’s economic environment, and the country was the destination for Berkshire Hathaway's first investment outside of the USA when it purchased ISCAR Metalworking, and the first R&D Centers outside the USA for companies including Intel and Microsoft. The country has now become known as Silicon Wadi.

Israel has signed free trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, the European Free Trade Association, Turkey, Mexico, Canada, Jordan, Egypt, and on 18 December 2007, became the first non-Latin American country to sign a free trade agreement with the Mercosur trade bloc.

I would like to see a world-wide boycott of Israeli produce to influence the Israelis to stop their attacks and negotiate a peaceful solution with Palestine/Hammas. I am no longer buying Israeli fruit or vegetables.

Could someone possibly post up a list of brands that we might see in the shops? I know most fruit and veg would be marked 'Produce of Israel' but other items might not be so prominantely labled. (Excuse my spelling)

I am keenly looking at country of origin when shopping. Found sweet potatoes in Tesco, both loose and pre-packed, are from Israel. Fresh Herb pots in Asda are also from Israel.

Pierce Farrell,

Comprehensive lists of goods to boycott are hard to come by. Much of the stuff is high tech engineering etc.

Boycott the fruit and veg and boycott across the board all Nestle Products. There is a lot to boycott in that range. In fact they practically own the breakfast cereal industry at this stage. But you aslo have Nestea , Nescafe, Nestle cereals and bars etc.

Good Luck.

people should also note that the israelis own the patents on a great deal of technology and surveillence equipment today and this gives them a lot of power. addressing this is also vital. in fact i am certainn they monitor all of the media postings on this subject including text messaging whenever israel is mentioned. these guys really do have us by the balls so to speak.

Man kicked to death yesterday in front of his son on his own land in Palestine by Israeli Offence Forces.

http://www.imemc.org/article/58455

" An army spokesperson claimed that the man attempted to snatch the weapon of one of the soldiers at Tarqoumia roadblock near Hebron.
Yet, eyewitnesses said that the man was in his land when he was attacked by the soldiers and that the land is in Ithna village, far away from Tarqoumia roadblock. "

Why do you not call for a boycott of USA goods? They have killed one million Iraqis and are occupying their country? This is as bad if not worse than what the Israeli government has done. Why one attitude towards the Israeli state but a different one to the USA? Or Britain, they are occupying Iraq and Afghanistan.

By all means boycott Israeli goods and also those of the USA who give them the Aircraft, the bombs and the aircraft fuel!
Take heed that you buy Irish products before buying those of the UK too!

Sarah, Boycott is a tactic, not a dogma, as Naomi Klein wrote recently. The crimes of the US certainly merit a boycott and many people have stopped, in so far as they can, buying US products, traveling to the country or for example watching the many ridiculous movies it produces.

The size of Israeli means that a boycott can be effective. Plus the boycott is not just for goods from the rogue state but it is an academic, diplomatic, cultural, and sporting boycott. The Israelis are terrified of loosing legitimacy in the eyes of the world. A full academic, diplomatic, cultural, and sporting boycott would damage the image of ‘plucky little Israel’ and force it to account for its actions.

The Israeli-made components in phones and PCs are difficult to boycott but if they lost much of the $17 billion in their diamond trade, their academics couldn't find an audience for their speaking tours and their sports teams were meeting with protests similar to what the South Africa rugby teams faced in Dublin in the 1980s, they'd start paying attention.

If you are going to boycott anything, boycott the shops that stock Israeli fruit and vegetables. Or at the very least refuse to buy produce from there. Tesco is a prime example. This will have a very instant effect as unsold produce goes off and has no value any more. Boysott Tesco and tell them why. Send the following to customer.services@tesco.ie

Dear sir/madam,

As I am sure you are aware, Israel is currently in a conflict with the Palestinian people in Gaza. This conflict has resulted in over 1,000 deaths of Palestinian civilians in less than 20 days. That is on average 50 people a day, many of them women and children.

They have been using cluster bombs, white phosporus and sheer terrror to crush and destroy innocent people.

I am shocked and horrified to see that your store is selling Israeli fruit and vegetables and therefore supporting this regime.

It is because of this that I have chosen to no longer shop in your store until this is rectified. I will also be encouraging all my friends and family to do the same.

Yours faithfully

Etc

A 17 year old boy was bound by his hands , made to kneel on the ground then shot in the head by Israeli Offense Forces in Palestine.

Medical verification of the murder is required at this time but the murder suspects have stolen the body in order to thwart an autopsy.

http://stopthewall.org/latestnews/1818.shtml

" Occupation forces then prevented the Palestine Red Crescent ambulances from approaching the location of the shooting, and denied medics any access to the body. They transported Naser to an Israeli hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Occupation forces are currently refusing to return his body to his family, and have stated that they will conduct an autopsy themselves. "
