"paramilitary" police accused of sexual assaults and severe violence Now that the teargas has settled, and the evidence of police violence (yet again) mounts, calls are being made for the removal of police commissioner Richard Timoney for his supervision on the assaults on protestors against the FTAA in Miami. One union has decided to raise the issue in the US congress.. read full story / add a comment

DUBLIN, Nov. 14th 2003: Today at midday, despite the intermittent heavy showers, near freezing cold and piercing wind, a group of anarchists and anti capitalists gathered on FitzWilliam Square for a demonstration. The action was called to show solidarity with the five prisoners currently on hunger strike in prison hospitals in Greece. read full story / add a comment

"The leaders of the various leftist groups have decided not to participate in a site they regard as beneath their dignity. They know that they will be attacked by ireful posters in disrespectful and probably vulgar and abusive terms. The rank and file of the various vanguard revolutionary parties are obviously discouraged from going to have a look-see. Those who do speak-up for their parties usually (though not always) sign on anonymously." read full story / add a comment

The international campaign to boycott Coca-Cola scored a first victory in Ireland with the recent succesful passing of a referendum on University College Dublin's Belfield campus to ban the drink from Student Union outlets. The campaign aimed to pressure Coca-Cola into addressing the murder of union activists in its Colombian bottling plants. But now an attempt to repeal the result of the UCD referendum has led to a re-run of the referendum being planned for November 18th (evening) and 19th (all-day). Apparently as a result of the negative publicity around this issue the Coke Company will dispatch a heavy-hitter to Ireland from their head office to try and stop the campaign in its tracks. read full story / add a comment

A meeting between activists from several different local campaigns and political groups has called for a protest on Thursday evening at the Grangegorman depot, starting at 5 pm, during the city-centre commercial collection runs. This has since been endorsed by the steering committee.
