The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is asking our members and supporters to make justice for the Palestinian people an issue in the 2020 Irish General Election. We have produced a short handout with three important issues to raise with canvassers on the doorsteps, or to contact candidates about, and have initiated a campaign asking the candidates to take our three #PalestinePledges in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice and equality. read full story / add a comment

Government offer spurious reasons for blocking Medicinal Cannabis Bill Gino Kenny TD says: “I put forward solutions over three years ago and they completely ignored them” People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny said he received a letter today from the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, outlining the reasons why the Dublin Mid-West TD’s Cannabis for Medicinal Use Regulation Bill 2016 failed to progress further in the legislative process. The letter contained a ‘reasoned response’ to Deputy Kenny’s Bill, which sought to provide for GPs to prescribe medicinal cannabis for people with a wide range of illnesses. read full story / add a comment

The Nevin Economic Research Institute (NERI) one of the few non right wing think tanks regularly produces interesting reports, research and other information. Information that is key to understanding what is happening in our society and how various socio economic factors are trending. In a recent "In Brief" four page report that they have done on work, they analysis the risk of poverty rates across the broad categories of employment in Ireland. One of it's key findings is that: deprivation rates are higher in 2017 than in the years leading up to the crisis, including for full-time, permanent staff. The analysis also shows that for all but one of the seven categories, Irish employees in 2017 were less likely to be able to meet an unexpected expense (of approximately €1,000) than before the financial crisis. read full story / add a comment

A reactionary right wing coup has deposed Evo Morales, the left wing and self proclaimed socialist President of Bolivia, after 14 years of rule. This coup has been executed by the Bolivian armed forces and police in conjunction with the right wing opposition Citizens Community led by Carlos Mesa, probably with the backing, behind the scenes, of the far right Bolsonaro government in Brazil and the US State Department. read full story / add a comment

Dear Friends A general meeting of IMPERO will take place on Saturday 12 October 2019 at 14:00. Fr. Stephen Duffy PP, Lordship and Ravensdale, has kindly given permission to use the meeting room in our Lady of The Wayside Church, Jenkinstown, Co. Louth, for our meeting. We will meet there. Agenda 1. Read minutes of the previous meeting 2. Confirm officer board for 2019/2020 3. Sean Crudden will read his thread on the UNDP (United Nations' Development Program) Global Development Hub. The recent on-line consultation was around the question of digitalisation and the sustainable development goals of the UN 4. Equality 5. Finances 6. Fix dates and venues for meetings for the next year 7. Strategy Due to unavoidable circumstances the meeting scheduled for mid-June was let slide but, hopefully, this will not happen again. The meeting on the 12th is important for IMPERO. It is also taking place at a time of universal change. Is there any way technology can be turned to the advantage of the mental patient? The meeting is open to everyone. But, if you are coming to the meeting, let us know beforehand so that we can make proper provision for all those attending.
