Belfast Anarchist Black Cross held a small picket outside Maghaberry prison on Saturday the 2th February to raise awareness of the ongoing prison abuses and neglect of prisoners as well as leafleting families outside the gates to build solidarity and support. We were also paid a nice visit by the local pigs, no doubt at the behest of the screws that were wary of our presence. Belfast ABC will continue to picket Maghaberry and other prisons in the future and provide a forum for prisoners and their families to raise their grievances. You are not alone! read full story / add a comment

Approximately 200 people packed into Wynns Hotel, Dublin, on 29 January, to attend a meeting hosted by the Socialist Party on the issue of the health crisis in Ireland. The meeting was organised to discuss the health crisis and to raise the demand for “a public health service for all”. The meeting was addressed by two hospital consultants, Professor John Crown and Dr. Orla Hardiman, a nurse, Triona Murphy, and by former Socialist Party TD [member of Irish parliament] Joe Higgins. Professor Crown has won a very high profile in the media over the last year for making significant public criticisms about the neo–liberal agenda of the government for the health service. All the platform speakers graphically outlined the real crisis facing patients and workers in the health service. Many other health workers and representatives of campaigns spoke form the floor. read full story / add a comment

Deeply concerned and outraged at the continued use of Guantanamo as a US torture site, the ongoing Israeli collective punishment of Gaza and the facilitation of US troops and CIA torture flights through Shannnon Warport, members of the public, activists from Galway Food Not Bombs and the IPSC joined the Galway Alliance Against War protest at the Liam Mellows statue in Eyre Square this afternoon. Unfortunately, Rhuhel Ahmed, the British citizen who spent two years in the torture camp after being kidnapped with two of his friends whilst attending a wedding in Pakistan, could'nt attend. Fortunately, some 140 people attended including Michael D. Higgins, Galway City Councillors; Niall O' Brolchain, sisters, Catherine and Collette Connolly Billy Cameron and writers, Fred Johnson, Margaretta D'Arcy and Rita Anne Higgins. read full story / add a comment

A young antifascist skinhead activist , Jan Kucera , has been brutally slain during a clash with a number of neo nazis in the small town of Pibram , just outside of Prague in the czech republic . Tensions between fascists and anti fascists have been high in that area since the successful mobilisation in November in which anti fascists and anarchists physically prevented neo nazis from staging a despicable rally in the centre of Pragues historic Jewish quarter to mark the anniversary of the nazis Kristalnacht pogrom against the jews of Germany during the 1930s . read full story / add a comment |
